Nintendo Switch Previews are coming in

I know it's probably been said at least once, if not a couple times, but I'm getting a pretty big chuckle out of all these hands on that are praising the cartridge based games for instant-on, no need for patching but then simultaneously mentioning that the console itself is going to require a pretty substantial day one patch to fix the joy-con issue and add basic features to the OS.

All of these previews are just reaffirming that this is an early access product and being an early adopter of the Switch is going to be as bad, maybe worse than, being an early adopter of most any other tech product. Better to sit back and wait for the product (and software) to mature.

Honestly, Zelda: BotW on Wii U isn't going to be so radically different that it will make people "cry" like some of the hyperbolic posts in this topic claim. And since it's a single player game anyway, waiting to play it or going back to play it again on Switch in a year will be no big issue.

Does anyone know if the 3.5mm jack functions when the Switch is docked? Like, can you slap it in the dock and use the 3.5mm jack for audio instead of HDMI.

From the comments of the Easy Allies unboxing:

Jan Theysen said:
Myself and some other developers were at Nintendo last year and they presented the Switch to us. They told us you actually can't break the stand. The hinge is magnetic. So before it breaks it just detaches and you can put it back on. I thought that was a super cool design detail.

Sounds really cool!!

People will tell you "Yes, this is possible," but I haven't seen any confirmation from media outlets today (only from the erroneous French interview from a few weeks ago). I haven't read all of the impressions, so I may have missed it if someone did confirm.

I know... I actually got a power bank for Pokemon Go, and then I got another this Christmas as a gift, so I'll be Switchin' all over the place.

I don't actually have a power bank. I'll probably pick up a nice beefy one at some point.

I just keep a charger at work at the moment.

A GAF member said he used headphones whilst docked at one of the preview events.

It was already confirmed by a few hands-on impressions, and the french interview still confirms it after being corrected.

Alright, cool. Thank you.

Looks like I'll be running a long ass cord across my living room then, lol.

Thanks!

Not sure why everyone is so worried about the synch issue. Didn't you know? Nintendo was already prepared?

Sorry if it's been answered already, but does anybody know what Amps my battery pack needs to output to charge this thing. Also providing it meets requirements, would I be able to use any high quality USB C cable that meets the proper standard?

So pumped for this launch. I feel like how I felt as a kid just before Christmas. I haven't felt that way about a console in a long time. I hope they figure out the JoyCon issue.

Hyperbolic people will be hyperbolic. What better to do than hype your purchase to 7th heaven?

Anyway, do any of the reviews mention VC at all?

Didn't you get the news? There will be no VC at launch. I guess, they wait until E3 and then give us GameCube VC =)

You do realize that their Wii-U stream was 6.5 hours long, right? They played all twenty-three launch titles. Hence why I am guessing this year's stream won't match that with about a third of the amount of games to play.

Also, is Snipperclips confirmed at launch? That game looks rad.

Quality of quantity.

I'm willing to bet BoTW is better than any of Wii U's launch titles. And I'm more than OK with that.

No I haven't read or watched anything yet. Is this real? Weren't we told by insiders before that we'll have VC support from day 1? Well Emily also said Switch's first year of games will be more than the WiiU's entire lifetime and look how that turned out. Lesson learnt.

A console has a day one firmware update? WOAH that's never happened before. Ever.

I mean, it's fine if you want to feel better about not getting a switch at launch, but this is the strangest "irony" I've heard all day.

Finally, the size comparison I've been waiting for. People who say the switch "is too big to be a handheld" clearly weren't around for the early 90s. And that's the smaller revision of the Lynx, the original was even bigger. The Game Gear is almost as big.
There was a reason Lynx and Game Gear failed.

Luckily Switch is nice and thin in comparison.

Gotta say, the pro controller is growing on me. I originally preordered it only because of the proper dpad for 2D games but those huge face buttons give ME PSP/GameCube B button/Genesis vibes.

Just feels so good to press, man.

Day One firmware updates are normal. XBO wouldn't even work without one. So I don't know what you are trying to say.

Why are you being too defensive? Other consoles doing it don't justify it. 2 wrongs don't make a right.

It's completely normal for a console in this day and age to have a firmware update at launch. They have to start manufacturing the first batch months in advance. Their firmware R&D is not going to just stop working during that time.

You have a serious lack of understanding of the overall engineering behind a console if you think that's "wrong".

For me, the pros outweigh the cons. I rather have gradual rollout of features delivered when they are ready than what was experienced with the Wii U.

Um, isn't that kinda true though in terms of first party? Zelda, Snipperclipps, ARMS, MK8DX, Splatoon 2, FE Warriors, Mario Odyssey, Xenoblade 2, and likely Pokemon, Retro's game, and anything else they announce at E3 seems to be better than the majority of the Wii U's lifetime content.
