Nintendo Switch Previews are coming in

Very positive from what I've seen. Varying degrees of preference when it comes to the Joy-Cons free or in the grip vs the Pro Controller. UI is fast and snappy, hardware feels very high quality. Battery Life is solid, BotW draining in 2.5 to 3 hours depending on settings, much better than 3DS when in sleep mode drain, only 2% drop after 8 hours. Overall they've all sounded very upbeat and positive about the system. Even with known stuff like no video apps, browser, VC at launch and such.

That is really good to hear.

What is the general consensus on the things that people are allowed to talk about that does not include the connectivity issues with the joy cons?

Very positive.

This JoyCon issue seems to be the only negative I can find. Even then there are ways around it at the moment by sitting closer it seems, making sure the joycons are aimed in the direction of the Switch (separate or in the grip) while docked, using the system in hand held mode or using the pro controller while docked. So one negative issue, that admittedly could be a major one for some people if not addressed (we're waiting on this), but everything else appears to be positive to very positive.

This of course is being over looked in favor of focusing on the negative but that's always the case, especially on gaf at times. I wish the positives were getting more attention. It's not like the hopefully temporary Joycon issue is impeding people from playing the system and enjoying it.

Everything sounds mostly positive so far minus the joy con issue. Hopefully that can be patched. I don't expect that to affect me anyway since I'm using this as a handheld and using the pro controller when docked.

Assuming this is a pallet shipping to a retailer or a retailer getting their pallets ready? Best Buy maybe? If so, I wonder if this is an indication of the Pro Controller to Switch system ratio at retailers on launch?

That would be a lot of lost revenue, wouldnt it?

Just FYI, I prepared a topic for the Zelda previews tomorrow. Most people won't care about it but I made some layout things that I hope will be visually pleasing. (Kinda did it for fun since I enjoy editing images.)

Please don't burn me alive but do you know what this reminds me of? the ouya controller issues with the connections that had too.

That issue used to disappear when the Ouya was wired. I think this is actually a good point. Maybe the wireless / searching for network has some detrimental effect with the joycons? Sounds crazy, but wonder what the outcome would be with WIFI disabled.

Amiibo should unlock profile icons and or themes.

That would be pretty cool. That would mean a LOT of them though. Though I guess they'd want to sell them the way they do on the 3DS. Granted you have to pay for the Amiibo but there are so many out there right now they'd be giving away themes for free if they added them or dealing with a negative reaction if they were just for new amiibo going forward while ignoring the ones out there.

The Big One, Splatoon. Also, a lot of ZR and ZL button inputs and platformers would have to be remapped to R and L, which depending on the ergonomics is not ideal, especially when they are main actions that you press a lot. Airstalling in 2d mario, grabbing barrels or rolling and groundpounding in DKC, dodging in bayonetta, You can get around these ones by remapping these common actions to the bumpers (still a negative btw), but there is no way to get around Splatoon with analog.

Man, you've totally lost me here. How is Splatoon any different from the hundreds of shooters on PS4 and XB1 that use triggers?

None of these previews confirm HDMI passthrough (aka HDMI-CEC) is a thing that the Switch/dock is capable of. I would really like to know if this is a thing.

4 pro controllers for every ~45 Switch's?

I hope not. Was planning to pick one up launch day.

4 for every 49... it this is Best Buy, it would be interesting considering how long they had the Pro Controller available for preorder online. Also, the initial batch of Gray and Neon went quick. It stayed up a while for both the second run through. In both cases, in theory, Best Buy might have a lions share for some reason. Remains to be seen though.

I think you're exaggerating in your head just how long it takes to press an analog trigger. You even mentioned dodging on analog triggers in Bayonetta as not being ideal, but as someone who played the 360 version for over a hundred hours, I can tell you that it works just fine.

The Time magazine preview mentions that since the dock and system itself are so light, they can get knocked over pretty easily and that some good velcro might be a good option for some people. Definitely doing that since my cat knocks shit over all the time. I wish Nintendo had put some weight into the base of the dock, especially since it's so expensive on its own to buy a second one.

The receiver for the Steam controller is a big heavy chunk of metal, and it makes it some much easier to keep it in one spot.

Looks like Neon is going to be a hard one to get.

I think he's just stating why for many games digital triggers are preferable, not that they would be broken with analog triggers. it's just a personal preference, is all, whereas some people are making it out to be this inferior vs. superior thing.

Honesty wuestion, what's the point of digital triggers outside of racing sims?

EDIT: *analog triggers

Sorry if this has been answered, I haven't seen it all day.

Is it possible to capture video from the switch with a USB C to HDMI cable in portable mode?
