17-minute-long IGN look at Mass Effect Andromeda (Peebee Loyalty Mission SPOILERS)

Just saw this on Tumblr

What....

What....

Like they do realize it's a game right? You don't need to 'fake' punch someone like in a movie or television show.

Like... Really?

Worse part is that it's not even close. The hand and arm are so far off.

Mocapped like that and put as is into the game? Also that is like 2 seconds long in actual cutscene, barely noticeable.

This and the animation being so wonky (in cut scenes) always gets me.
The male standard character looking like a douche is also a shame, I'm terrible at making a good looking character on my own.

(This is going to be the Batman Origins of Mass Effect games isn't it?)

There is going to be a website that people can share their Ryders on, so even if you suck at using the CC, you can probably find one you'll like.

Pretty sure that's supposed to be a biotic punch or something. doesn't make sense otherwise.

Still watching but this script is really bad.

Bad is being very generous. That was borderline unwatchable. It reminds me of the awful forced and cringe-worthy stage banter during E3 presentations.

How the mighty have fallen

:(

I'll probably end up just waiting until a GOTY edition with all the DLC is released and play it then. Brad on the GB Quicklook was saying it was still pretty janky on the may as well be release build version he played.

Who in their right mind would play BioWare games for the quality writing?

uh... clipping and collision detection probably makes a simple punch like that infinitely more difficult to animate than any punch in a TV or film

Those were very boring 17 minutes to be honest. The dialogue was uninteresting, I'd say even a bit annoying (comments) and the combat looked also very dry.
The graphics look nice though, so there is that I guess.
I'll give this one a try via ea access but my expectations are now very low.

It's very likely, dev rarely have the time to bother with pc only "problems"

why though? PC is a viable platform, and EA wants origin to be a respectable DRM platform and not just be a "oh a EA game is on there so i have to buy it on Origins", they should put the extra effort in.

Not the best 17 minutes to show. Still look pretty good but at this point I have to wonder how balanced the game is. You can apparently do this mission early on or at the end. Considering the "profile" system I wonder how they are balancing the game.

I mean Witcher 3 had plenty of gloriously bad animation like this here so I'm not sure what all the praise for a frequently stoic ass cast was

UynPMpb.gif

chances are Geralt has more facial animation going on in this gif than female Ryder does in all of Andromeda.

KotOR had a great story and characters, Mass Effect 2 had great characters.

Of course you could play a BioWare game just or the writing. Although obviously it hasn't always been quality lately.

Yeah that looked...awful.

And unlike DAI I don't think the characters are interesting enough to drag me through the gameplay slog.

Whew! Good, I thought I may have been overreacting. Glad it's not just me. This did not do anything for me, and I loved all of the Mass Effect games.

I thought that they had fixed the whole magic Avenger appearing in cutscenes thing.

You can see here that Peebee's pistol transforms into an Avenger. What? It's been 5 years, and they have a new engine. There's no excuse.

That demo was horrendous. The guy playing it was terrible, and the mission itself was boring. Hype replaced with a broken Avenger.

I wonder if they do this on purpose

i probably have really badly understood the combat trailer.
Wasn't question to give more mobility with jetpack ?
why did this guy play like it's gears of war then ?
edit: should have waited second half....

dunno what to think...this don't feel exiting to play (and i tried to stay neutral wainting this kind of long video so far)

PeeBee also gets Avenger out of thin air for that cutscene. You just have to love those precanned cutscenes, most likely with 30FPS lock too.
Peebee's magic Avenger is weird in light of the fact that she has a unique (AFAIK) gun of her own that they could set the animation to use.

They could just move the camera to hide it. A lot easier than in a TV or film.

Graphics and combat look good, but damn and the "exploration" section. The amount of hand-holding is ridiculous, character just doesn't shut up and spells out everything. Really turned me off quite a bit.

Well, hype deflated again. The faces, dialogue and conversations are just awful, jesus.

Gameplay wasn't exactly thrilling either.

Also you better be able to turn waypoints off, that's kinda ridiculous.

Man, I'm a big fan of the series, but I feel like this is reminding me a lot like 3.

I liked 3, but while I could see the quality in it, I also saw a lot of cut corners. I assumed that after such a long time they wouldn't do the same thing.

I'll still get the game and hopefully have a great time, but I was expecting a super polished experience.

I keep expecting or waiting for this series to blow me away with a wide wonderful sci fi city and rich space atmosphere and it more or less isn't.

Going to be more of the same forever with bioware.

Not liking the rocky terrain and afraid of that after dragoon age drive me batty with path issues.

Well, definitely going to keep PeeBee on the Tempest or leave her on a planet that is going to explode. Her excessively cheery, naive persona will grate on my nerves - some of her dialogue in that video was cringe-inducing. She come across as a stowaway who Ryder picked up along the way rather than a qualified, competent member of a pathfinder team. The person demoing the game didn't showcase the combat at its best potential. Still cautiously optimistic about the game, the environments at least look interesting.
