from what Ridley said their will be two more prequals... after this one... and then it ties to the first alien movie
Not anymore, now it's three more movies AFTER Alien: Covenant!

Ridley Scott originally stated that he was planning three sequels to Prometheus, eventually leading into the original film, Alien, as Scott stated: "maybe [there will] even [be] a fourth film before we get back into the Alien [storyline]". Later on, Ridley Scott confirmed that Alien: Covenant would be followed by three more films before linking up with original Alien and stated that Prometheus sequels will reveal who created the xenomorph Aliens.

I dunno guys, something about the alien using its fucking head to break into the cockpit of that ship is fucked up in a terrifying way.

I'm not really into CG Xenomorphs but at least they look right this time. That thing at the end of Prometheus looked terrible.

you know who Scott should have handed off an Alien sequel to....the guy who made the Witch. I have a feeling he'd have knocked it out the park.

Way better trailer than the last one, but Prometheus had god tier trailers so these really don't mean shit.

If the rumors about the script are true this movie is going to be a disaster, best case scenario is it looks great and has well directed horror scenes.

Doesn't look bad. Not a fan of Aliens but maybe I'll see this.

The last part with Danny Mcbride at the end with the alien
cracking into the ship was straight out of a Seth Rogen movie.

A bit weird to see him in a 'serious' movie like this. I've only seen him in comedies, though I mostly find his characters annoying rather than funny.

What are these rumors you speak of because I've heard that compared to Prometheus' script it's a masterpiece?

do anyone in the universe even know how to land safely this kind of spaceship? No matter what planet is – LV-426/LV-223/etc., always the same picture.

It's hard to please an audience when all has been done twenty times over.

There's no "WOW" factor when the Xenomorph shows up. The first Alien was great because it took place in a "small" ship most of the time. Aliens was great because it upped the scale and showed that these Aliens are dangerous creatures of unknown origin. Alien 3 was an OK movie. The extended version is a bit better .. but it lacks the same atmosphere the previous two movies had.

The trailer was OK. The Xeno in this one actually resembles the one in Alien. I'm not sure how this Neomorph is going to be but I take it it'll just be for this one (or upcoming movies). Good trailer and I'll go see this. I hope it gets that Alien feeling back though.

What is this Alien 4 you guys are speaking off? Is it a TV-series?

better than the first trailer at least

maybe because they should try something new. btw, Alien Universe is great "as is". How about to make TV show about Weyland Yutani, for example. It could be just about politics, wars, etc. Like BSG, Caprica or Expanse for example.

Alien: Resurrection, I guess

To be fair I presume that's the ship David/Shaw were flying. If so it's narratively justifiable they wouldn't be able to pull off the smoothest landing.

That said given they seemed able to make it take off fine I kind of agree it's already established they can fly it well so this does feel somewhat lazy from a continuity point of view.

Second option: that ship has eggs in it and crashed for same reasons as one in original Alien film: Alien infestation.

But given this knowledge Shaw/David got there in this kind of ship I'm guessing it's the former.

How come in 1979 and 1986 we were able to get believable looking practical effects based Aliens, but now in 2016 we have to suffer these shitty looking, CGI ass abominations? The Alien looks like hot fucking garbage in this.

Scott wants those fast moving Aliens he envisioned originally it seems, and even with improvements in costumes CGI probably is the obvious route for that.

Or maybe they could have found a way with rigs and gone for digital removal but felt that was too complex?

Either way I kind of agree. TBH to this day the ordinal Alien for me remains the best in terms of how the creature was shot and shown. The scene where it emerges from the Narcissus wall in the strobing lights perfectly captured Geiger imagery in a way no film has since.

Awful trailer. Those two David/Shaw (whoever the cloaked person is) shots were like the only interesting parts of the trailer.

Pretty sure i'll enjoy it just as much as i did with prometheus.
Anything related to the alien lore/universe is a must for me.

Here, its just bashing its head on a cockpit window like a PCP-addict with no rhyme or reason.

I saw this as a reference to one of the Alien comics, but maybe that was just me. Regardless, I'll go see this as I'm still a fan of the franchise and want to see where this is all leading.

No matter how shitty Prometheus was, at least the very ending was good, and wanted me to see more. Shaw and David`s head, going through space in a alien ship, just seemed such a cool idea. And then maybe going to Engineer world...

Instead, it seems we are getting something that looks very predictable. Trailers leave me completely unmoved in any way. At least Prometheus had great trailers.

is prometheus 2 still a thing ?

Looks terrible.

Getting some serious Prometheus vibes as far as Darwin Award candidates are concerned. If they genuinely could've made certain that there's zero threat to running around suit-less, and I mean absolutely 0, then fine, walk around an alien planet without helmets, show us your pretty faces. Instead though, we immediately get a shot of someone stepping into some spore disseminating crap.

Me Last Week: Oh, this little prologue teaser is nice

Me This Week: Oh...okay...this looks like Prometheus...again.

These movies want to recreate Ripley so bad. They keep trying and failing, it's starting to get sad. I actually thought the head bash at the end was kinda cool. The rest looked like a jumble of dumb horror tropes but injected with money so maybe we don't notice.

EDIT: Double Toasted talked about this on the Tuesday show, and Martin made a great point. How many times are we going to keep going back to the well when we haven't a good entry in decades? This and Terminator. We get a new one of these every 5 years or so and they're always garbage, but the fans keep thinking "maybe this will be the good one!". Its been two decades for Terminator and 3 decades for Alien

Seems like a straight riff on Aliens to me. Remember the creature that jumped on APC and broke through windshield trying to get at Ripley? Looks like a reprise of that but transposed to a spaceship.

It's too bad Wes Craven is no longer with us. Now we'll never get to see him go back and direct four fucking Elm Street prequels with $100m+ budgets to explain to us who Freddie is.

Oh but hey Carpenter is still around. Maybe he can take us to the creature from The Thing's home planet in a new series of big budget movies!

Fuck that. The original Alien is my second favourite movie of all time but this franchise doesn't deserve Eggers. I'd rather he do something original after Nosferatu.

Why aren't they wearing any protection suits? This film is probably going to be full of "what the hell are they doing" moments just like Prometheus.

Looks alright, although most of the scenes are the same/extended from the teaser trailer with some couple of new shots like the cloaked guy (david ? ) and of course the alien itself.

Why aren't they used any protection suits? This film is probably going to be full of "what the hell are they doing" moments just like Prometheus.

Dunno, but since they are on a colonization mission and that the uninhabited (paradise) planet is their goal I'd assume they know that the atmosphere is safe.

Also it surprises me the negativity towards the trailers here on GAF, to me it looks ok but not as bad as some people say.

Yep, it's just silly now that this is the third movie on the third separate planet that we see the iconic ship crashed.

'Look woo the Jockey ship you liked'!!!

Unless they pull some lame third act twist and environment disaster that in fact turns this planet into the actual LV-426, which would actually be worse

The 'angry' Alien faces aren't inspiring me either but im part of the problem - I love the Alien schlock and will probably see it in the cinema even if it's shit. Hell especially if it's shit.

I saw Prometheus incredibly stoned at midnight on a huge 3D IMAX screen and it was brilliant.
I haven't watched it since but I intend to do the same for this.

Not expecting the best film ever but I love the Alien franchise so I'm sure it'll at least be entertaining for me.

Heeh, I dunno, as much as I love Alien, other than the first scene where he appears (that one is timeless), the Alien looks so much like a dude with a suit.

I think the CG in that GIF looks fine. The problem is more about the design, like the arms, not only he's more ripped, they're totally different. He lost some of the bio-mechanical motifs in his original design.
