Alien Covenant - Trailer 2

I like the redesigned Xenomorph, it looks far more brtual and menacing. Not at all like the sleak, aerodynamic design from earlier movies. I wonder what kind of variant this one will be called, like is it a drone, a soldier or something David whipped up?

There's something off with his back legs,it looks like a spider or a crab tbh.
Usually they look and run like a dog when they are on their 4 legs iirc.
Also,am i the only one who sees eye sockets in the frontal region of its domed head?

Yeah I see it as well

That wasn't how it was going down, though.

He was going to write a movie that erased Alien 3 and replaced it with 70 year old Ripley & Hicks wearing xenomorph suits in a giant Weyland Yutani warehouse kinda... I dunno? Shooting people? Blowing up the derelict?

It wouldn't have been good. His whole idea was going to be "Ripley & Hicks are back. Shooting things."

Like anyone really wants to see an ALIENS-esque action movie starring 70 year-old Sigourney Weaver and Michael Biehn.

The premise itself is fucking busted.
To be fair, I could see another Aliens-esque action movie starring 70 year-old Sigourney Weaver and Michael Biehn if it were in good hands.

Unfortunately, Blomkamp is not good hands.

lol

Oh,i didn't know that.
Thanks!

OG Alien design had an human skull inside the dome

It was changed in Aliens when they redesigned the dome. I think, other than the original movie, only Alien Isolation has the skull.

The thing that drives me crazy is that Prometheus was a perfect idea for a sci-if horror movie with a script that writes itself and would redefine sequels in some ways.

Instead it got bonkers and tried to do way too much, so it seems like they are course correcting by just making a goofy slasher movie.

Why not just make a gorgeous movie with good performances and a simple story? It'd be a slam dunk. Ridley Scott can make movies that look fucking spectacular and the trailer for Prometheus was fucking amazing. Just do that guys.

This is exactly the type of shot that Ridley and Cameron avoided showing of the alein in their respective entries. It just sucks all the fear right out of the creature.

This. I mean we know what the Alien looks like but this seems to violate monster movie rules in a bad way. Also, the CGI looks janky as fuck. I really dont know what to expect here but the trailers are giving me a real bad vibe.

So, I guess we should consider Prometheus as a prologue then we have the Covenant quadrilogy and the Ripley quadrilogy (though Resurrection is more like an spin-off).

Works for me. I know some people would rather let it die but it already did with the awful crossovers and even though they haven't been stellar, Ridley's efforts to bring the franchise back have managed to give us a Xeno that some consider kinda scary.

Meager as that may be I consider it a win.

There's going to be four of these not counting Prometheus?

"Imma just catch up on the Alien lore real quick"

Which is kind of the problem in the first place. Shouldn't be any "lore," and even if there was, it should remain as "lore." Meaning nobody really knows about it, and nobody's explicitly telling those stories. At that point it's no longer lore. Or even backstory. It's just story.

The creature is scary in the first two movies because there's mystery. Even in ALIENS, when a lot of that mystery is removed by turning them into bugs, there's still SOME mystery about them.

Now we're getting at least 8 hours-worth of how marshmallow scientists from the ass end of space got their shit wrecked by a fopbot who took their goo and made penismonsters out of it.

The correct word is tetralogy.

Noted. Sounds better too.

It'll go...

Ridley Scott originally stated that he was planning three sequels to Prometheus, eventually leading into the original film, Alien, as Scott stated: "maybe [there will] even [be] a fourth film before we get back into the Alien [storyline]". Later on, Ridley Scott confirmed that Alien: Covenant would be followed by three more films before linking up with original Alien and stated that Prometheus sequels will reveal who created the xenomorph Aliens.

Yeah, I was thinking of this which was mentioned some pages ago, it's unconfirmed though.

sci-fi rule #1

Never explain the origin of the super advanced alien race that went extinct

and/or the super advance alien race that was responsible for wiping them out

Yeah, I was thinking of this which was mentioned some pages ago, it's unconfirmed though.

If they're gonna keep digging deeper into revealing the mysteries of the Xenomorphs and Engineers, they should at least bring some writers in who can write half decent science & story driven plot-lines. I vote Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver.

I wouldn't mind seeing an Alex Garland Alien film - does Ridley Scott plan to direct all of these sequels as well?

In this superhero hellscape, I'll take whatever big budget sci-fi I can get.

Ridley has nailed the art direction once again, if nothing else.

They only needed to make one alien movie after resurrection. And that was what happened before the marines land in aliens.

Why the fuck didnt they do that already.

This trailer didn't do it for me. Looked like any other horror movie including prometheus and alien.

I'll definitely still watch it but I don't see how this is gonna be any different from the basic formula used in all the other movies.

I'm a bigger fan of aliens which was more action based.

But superhero movies ARE big-budget sci-fi films.
I mean technically in some ways, but Marvel is much more 'magic' than science. Yeah sure they present Thor stuff as being 'advanced technology', but honestly it's the softest schi-fi handwave possible.

You have Man of Steel that was like a sci-fi, but it was also stinky dogshit.

Re: backburster, how could you not know something that size is inside of you until it bursts out if your back?

I... like the look of the xenomorph. It's reminiscent (unintentional, I'm sure) of the dog alien (or drone) to me. The ferocity of the teeth looks far more terrifying to me then the big pearly whites look they started doing after Resurrection. I dunno, I like it, I can't put my finger on it. It looks more humanoid and gangly then what they've been doing with the Warriors for the past how many years.

There's gotta be an exception to the rule somewhere, in some medium. Maybe a book?

Revelation Space series is more or less just about this, and I still preferred when they left information out even though the world building is great. There is a point in sci-fi when the technology becomes impossibly advanced, and after you cross it there is really nothing gained from explaining the minutia other than for tone reasons, but you run the risks of breaking someone's disbelief.

Re: backburster, how could you not know something that size is inside of you until it bursts out if your back?

In one of the alien 3 abandoned script treatments there was a bodyburster (coincidentally from weaponized airborne xenomorph spore). The person basically projectile shredded their skin and there was a fully formed adult like alien. the person up till seconds before was functioning normally. Impressive.

from the trailer

You can clearly see the bridge of the nose and the top of the brow

ALIEN: COVENANT looks like a sequel to PROMETHEUS that's a prequel to ALIEN that is what PROMETHEUS should have been.

The entire thing has been built on the toxic ground of PROMETHEUS thanks to Ridley Scott and Damon Lindelof.
