What's hilarious is imagining what the right's response would have been if it was the Obama administration with all the Russia ties.

it'll be amazing if both Flynn and Sessions get forced out in a two month span.

Still looks fine to me.

Perjury. The guy lied on the stand about this.

Reporters on twitter are saying that perjury requires an intent to deceive, which is difficult to prove. He'll likely argue he's a dumbass old man (finally a word of truth) who forgot about the meetings.

Odd how I can look back at my calendar and tell you every meeting I've ever had at work but someone meeting important people at official capacity for the federal government can't but I'm just a dumbass young(er) man so what do I know?

If anything I'm happy at the thought that at the very least this story wrecked Trump's happy mood after his "presidential" speech last night. Keep on winning you big orange baby!

Only if you take an oath before that hearing

Which he did

A different statute covers without oath.

Section 1621 covers general perjury, and stipulates that anyone who "willfully and contrary to such oath states or subscribes any material matter which he does not believe to be true" is guilty of perjury and shall be fined or imprisoned up to five years, or both. Section 1001 covers false statements more generally, without requiring an oath. The section stipulates that "whoever, in any matter within the jurisdiction of the executive, legislative, or judicial branch of the government of the United States, knowingly and willfully" falsifies or conceals information, including before a congressional committee's inquiry, may also be fined or imprisoned up to five years.

I just can't fathom this situation. It is so, so incredibly blatant this administration is compromised and works for the interest of a rival country. How can there be so few politicians that are willing to resist before everything is lost. What else do they fucking need??

I've read similar. Perjury would be hard to prove in court as of right now.

He is definitely in violation of DoJ rules and must refuse himself now though.

Intent to deceive is what investigations and the following prosecution are for. By not recusing himself Sessions is blocking investigation; this is clearly meant to be the pressure to accomplish that, at minimum.

The world sure is trying its best to make things right after the bizarre and disheartening reception to Trump's speech the other night. 😌

Yeah, at minimum, he must recuse himself.

History is not going to look kindly on the people who could have done something and remained impotently silent.

Politics is one of the few arenas I can think of where extremely low expectations is a good thing.

I'm just looking forward to the mental gymnastics from Hannity as he waggles his shit stain face and explains it away.

Then after Trump is ousted (maybe) watching all the trump c words changing their profiles as fast as possible going "I never supported him!"

Just like all those Bush fans you see these days.

Might work if he was talking about others, but won't fly if he's talking about himself.

Yeah as others have pointed out there are ways to weasel out of this, but none of the usual easy ones. He basically only has "I forgot and didn't mean to lie" as a defense

Forgive me for being pessimistic but I doubt anything will come of this. They'll say he just forgot, media will drop this in a day or two, and then the GOP and Trump will be back to strip rights from the minorities and the poor, while making sure Russia is taken well care of.

Obama was far too weak to stop ISIS, and yet he had the ability to predict Clinton's defeat and Sessions nomination, so he convinced Kislyak to call Sessions and tell him to commit perjury, then he leaked the whole thing.
