He will be if he gets confirmed.

Welp.

Edited my post for clarity, then. I didnt' see his name on it and it's pretty late.

...If Mattis is revealed to have worked with the Russians during this whole thing, this would be very, very bad for our military -- we'd need to purge the entire officer corps, just to START.

Really suspicious that both Flynn and now Sessions talked to Russians, covered it up, and then used the excuse that they don't remember what they actually talked about except that it definitely wasn't campaign stuff or sanction stuff. Innocent conversations don't usually end up like that, guys...

Trump has 20+ years of shady shit and debts they can hold over him.
As for the others, white nationalists see Russia as an ally and role model, besides their offers of money and assistance in rigging elections.

But with the way the last year has gone, let's just entertain the seemingly outlandish for a second:

I do believe that chances are the RNC was also successfully hacked (I see no reason to believe that the RNC would be significantly more advanced in its cyber security than the DNC).

Russia having blackmail on Republicans whom I would be willing to believe aren't just straight up white supremacists would go a long way toward explaining Reince Priebus for me, who went from loathingly tolerant of Trump to loyal attack dog almost overnight.

What's really suspicious is how all these illegal leaks are getting out!

Feel like we need jpgs of each of Trump's cabinent members with "No puppet" as captions. As each one gets connected to Russia in some way, we can scratch the "no puppet" text with a line through.

So did he actually LIE under oath or did he just not disclose information? Unfortunately there's a big difference there.

No only is there video.....from the Washington Post article:

In January, Sen. Patrick J. Leahy (D-Vt.) asked Sessions for answers to written questions. “Several of the President-elect’s nominees or senior advisers have Russian ties. Have you been in contact with anyone connected to any part of the Russian government about the 2016 election, either before or after election day?” Leahy wrote.

Sessions responded with one word: “No.”

Except the method by which the DNC was hacked was due to near comical negligence.

Problem with that is that he can just say it wasn't about the election.

Priebus and Spicer strike me as the type who would do anything to please their boss and wouldn't question anything they do. They're probably paid well too.

Is all the GOP racist? Doubt it. They're in power and they want to stay that way. Plus they will all benefit from the tax breaks they are trying to pass.

Yeah, but you know the escape for this is gonna be "sure, we talked. But we talked about good cookie recipes and what movies we saw recently. Nothing about the election, so my answer was true"

Really?
One, CrowdStrike, was called in by the Democratic National Committee to analyze the hack against their computer system last April. With the DNC’s permission, CrowdStrike then posted details of what it had found. Attribution of hackers, whether by intelligence services or private firms, is a particular discipline. Much of it relies on signature methods used by the hackers, specific pieces of code, and distinguishing behavior.
CrowdStrike’s co-founder, Dmitri Alperovitch, uncovered evidence that two groups of Russian hackers he had named Cozy Bear and Fancy Bear, had been behind the DNC hack. Cozy Bear used a tool called SeaDaddy that allowed it to stealthily exfiltrate information from a victim’s computer. The tool was almost identical to another exfiltration tool previously identified by Symantec as belonging to the group of Russian hackers known to have operated at the behest of Russia’s FSB, a main successor agency to the KGB.
CrowdStrike also found the other group of hackers, Fancy Bear, was sending command and control instructions from a server with an Internet Protocol (IP) address of 176.31.112.10. This was the same IP address that was linked to command and control of an attack against the German parliament in 2015. The DNC attacker also used a special program to open a communication channel with the command and control server that was identical in form and function to the one used in the German hack. Microsoft had previously identified the communication program as belonging to Fancy Bear, which Microsoft had named “Strontium” at the time.
Crowdstrike’s analysis includes other evidence of Russian connections. One of the elements of a truly advanced hack is that it opens, and keeps open, a hidden communication channel with the hacked network, allowing it to continue to avoid detection and to find and steal information in other parts of a hacked computer network. In the DNC hack, the software that opened the hidden communication channel was a piece of software known to have been used by Fancy Bear.

The biggest positive I can see from this is that no one can honestly appoint him as a lead investigator into the Russian ties. Hopefully we can see an independent prosecutor go in on this. I'm not holding my breath, though.

Why would Mattis be involved?

The one-two punch of both of these things definitely makes this a bigger story, you're right about that. But geez fuck am I not comfortable with it being only a few steps removed from sheer luck that got us here.

You're banking on a lot more luck if Obama whipped his dick out with this information before the inauguration.
