WP: Sessions Met with Russia Twice Last Year, Didn't Disclose During Confirmation

Call me just curious and maybe a bit ignorant, but why would a senator from Alabama be talking and meeting with a Russian ambassador anyway?

I suppose it's probable they met before and were on friendly terms, but I don't know if I would by that.

He was on the committee of Armed Services which, I guess, deals with foreign dignitaries at times. Hes hilariously trying to split himself from the role as Trump advisor and his role in that committee. Its a conflict of interest all over the place.

Unfortunately I'm sure there's some sort of technicality we're not seeing that might keep this from taking out everyone like it should. But at least Sessions is not getting out of this.

The technicality is complicit Republicans holding a majority in the senate.

What I want to know is, people like this calling for his resignation, do they have additional proof that we the public don't have, or are they coming to this conclusion based on the news reporting, and nothing more?

Fuck resignation. Get this guy for perjury. Get him like he'd get any black person who had even been accused of perjury. Also he and his staff already admitted it and just tried to make excuses for it, so you don't have to hunt for the smoking gun or anything.

At the end of the day. He lied under oath. He needs to go. Not even just recuse himself from this Russian investigation stuff. He needs to be gone from the DOJ.

Based solely on the reporting, Sessions should be out on his ass.

Sessions was on the Armed Services Committee so them talking isn't completely insane. The whole lying oath thing still isn't cool though.

These guys have their own loops so can verify something "blink once for yes" whilst talking to people directly related to the Intel.

Hey at least he only made phone calls. Imagine the fury if it had been something as bad as emails...

Am I being naive or realistic when I feel like this won't end in anything that truly hurts Trump?

I just feel like it's been one thing after another. Over and over again. And every possibly thing that happens that makes me think, "This is it," never actually is.

They already admitted they had contacts with the Russian. You don't any more proof than that.

It's touched on in the article.
Cheers, thanks for pointing that section out.

I think you're missing the forest for the trees. It doesn't matter if he met with foreign ambassadors or whatever.
He lied under oath. That's perjury.
I probably should have phrased it more like this: If Sessions had admitted to speaking with the Russian ambassador during the hearings, and if there wasn't already Russian connections with the Trump campaign, would anything have been out of the ordinary? But the snippet from the article Killthee pointed out clarified my confusion on the matter!

What does it matter? Are they going to do anything? Can they prove it?

If Obama and his apointees did half this shit they would have all been in jail a long time ago.

Friday: Flynn lied to Pence about Russia
Cynical Gaf: nothing is going to happen
Monday: Flynn fired
Cynical Gaf: Well that's nice but Why hasn't Trump been impeached yet!?!

Imagine if Sessions refuses to recuse himself.

I mean... there is no possible outcome that ends well for Trump.

Would certainly turn the heat up on the whole administration. Like Flynn this a rock and a hard llace situation. Question is, does he simply recuse himself? Or do Dems grow a backbone and ATTACK.

It would definitely add more attention from the intelligence community. I think the rabbit hole goes deeper than we could have imagine.

While I would be happy with a resignation, you got a good point. Of course he will get the chance to step down before anything really bad happens to him unfortunately.

But any avenue that leads to him stepping down as AG would be a huge win for anyone that isn't a white conservative.

Either way it takes a back seat to the issue at hand. Trump is either unaware or a part of the strings being pulled by Moscow.

The Executive branch of our federal government has possibly been compromised. They need to do a proper investigation to see how far up the chain it goes and what is actually happening within the administration in relation to Russia.

Dems in the senate are the ones that need a backbone, the Dems in the house have always spit hot fire due to its heavily partisan atmosphere (fuck gerrymandering on all sides)

In some ways you should hope Trump isn't involved at all, the ramifications and the scope of this thing if he's being impeached for collaborating with Russian spy agencies to undermine America geopolitical control...

That's some world war 3 shit. And would be the greatest cybercrime and espionage victory of all time for the Russians.

The repercussions would be immense

Trump really will die in jail, won't he? Between Sessions, Flynn and the likelihood of Wilbur Ross being in communication with Russia, there's no way he hasn't committed treason. At this point, I wouldn't be surprised if Betsy DeVos was communicating with Russia. I mean, grizzlies are native to Russia...

Kislyak seems pretty terrible at his job if his efforts to compromise two of Trump's highest-level cabinet figures have been exposed in just two months.
