WP: Sessions Met with Russia Twice Last Year, Didn't Disclose During Confirmation

The Constitution does not lay out what the federal government would do in the case of a president elected through treason, but it does make clear what would happen in the case that there were actual vacancies.

From what I understand the lawful and logical solution to all of this is that Ryan would become acting president until there is a special election since the presidency, vice presidency, and all cabinet positions would be vacated.

Having said that, I doubt such a thing would happen considering how slow Republicans have been to coming around to taking this Russia/Trump collusion thing seriously. My best prediction from all of this would be that Ryan would take the office and there would be no special election.

Special election link?

None of that is true. There are no provisions for special elections. The first person in the line of succession who does not resign or get impeached + removed from office becomes president.

Trump retweeted Nazis. He is a horrible, evil piece of shit, just not a competent one.

Yep. He is forever a evil piece of garbage for what he did to the Central Park 5 and refusing to show some glimmer of humanity and apologize for it after they were found innocent.

Is that before or after he guts my parents' healthcare? :(

But then again, I guess he's hellbent on doing that no matter what.

Yeah, I don't think it matters who is in power for that unfortunately. It's just that slimeball on the sidelines needs the public to see it's all him being a bastard so you can be mostly rid of him.

I'd be fine with Democrats dropping Russia once Trump is out if the GOP agrees to seat Garland on the Supreme Court instead of Gorsuch. Things won't happen that fast though unfortunately.

It's amazing how Paul Ryan has never read or seen anything relevant to what the press asks him. When asked if Sessions mislead congress at the confirmation hearing.... "I didn't get to read the transcript".. LOL what the fuck? Did you also manage to miss when it was shown on TV a million times? He's the least informed politician ever, or the biggest bullshitter,

Im watching on tv, CNN.

Ryan just doubled down on saying they have no evidence to investigate anything.

I would think Sessions sworn testimony would be considered "evidence" that he lied, but who knows with these people.

Yep, it will either be Pence or Ryan.

I don't think Pence has anything to do with any of this Russia stuff but I actually think he would have the decency to resign.

I'll see if I can find it when I get home later, but a Constitutional law professor went into detail about exactly this situation once the Flynn story came out.

This is accurate, he's not the devil people want him to be, like Bush was painted as, they are just both really really bad at being president

He admitted to sexual assault, posted fake crime stats on Twitter that painted black people as murderous animals who target white people (and included a photo of a black man holding a gun sideways to get the point across), said Roe v. Wade would be overturned under him and was the leader of a movement to prove that the first black president was illegally elected because he was a black guy with a funny name.

No, he's a piece of shit.

Ryan can fuck off. Spineless twat.

Wasn't Manafort the one who pushed Trump to pick Pence? If I'm remembering that correctly, Pence is very, very, very likely compromised, too. He's just way better at hiding it and playing the victim card.

He's just stupid as fuck. Seriously. One of the most perplexing things about the political scene imo is how Paul Ryan of all people managed to cultivate an image of being a thinker.

Ryan is really sweating trying to explain why there shouldnt be an independent investigation. "We have to protect our intelligence assets"

Does not want this to be handled outside of his congress.

Didn't Ryan do almost the exact same apologist/defensive spin on the networks for Flynn a few days before Flynn was forced to resign?

The constitution is actually quite clear on this. If a President steps down for any reason (resignation, death, conviction, etc), the Vice President assumes the position, and then appoints a new Vice President. If the new President steps down, the new VP becomes President, etc.

If the VP who becomes president leaves before a new VP is appointed, then the Speaker of the House becomes President. No new special election is held for any of these circumstances. The person who is the President shall remain so until the end of the 4-year term, or until they step down and the next person in line ascends.

If Trump were to leave the position, then Pence becomes President. If Pence appoints a new VP and Pence leaves the position, then the new VP becomes President. If there is no VP when the President leaves the position, then the Speaker of the House becomes the President.

It is very unlikely we will ever see a Speaker assume the title of President unless both the President and VP step down simultaneously or die at the same time.

Ryan is a sell out. There was a glimmer of hope at one point in time where he could have become a decent human being, instead he went all in on slimy fuck-wad

WASHINGTON — U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz sought on Thursday morning to tamp down a growing firestorm around U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions, twice calling the issue a "nothingburger" in a television interview.

While in the confirmation process, Sessions testified in January to the Senate Judiciary Committee — of which Cruz is a member — and said he had "been called a surrogate at a time or two in [the Donald Trump] campaign and I did not have communications with the Russians."

The Washington Post reported Wednesday night that Sessions twice spoke with the Russian ambassador to the U.S. over the course of the 2016 presidential campaign.

"The reason I say it's political theater is the underlying meeting ... is a nothingburger," Cruz said in an interview with MSNBC. "It's what senators do every day, meeting with foreign ambassadors. It's part of the job."

He's afraid of what will be unearthed.

I wonder how likely it is that a lot of Republicans are compromised by Russian money? That would explain all this bending over and fighting tooth and nail instead of impeaching Trump and getting someone that Republicans actually like in office.
