Holy god I got blown the fuck OUT by Ganon. Un-fucking-believable stuff. This game is incredible to the very end. I mean, incredible. I mean, jaw-on-the-floor stuff.

I thought I was prepared. I was not prepared.

The idea that you can speedrun straight to this guy is amazing to me.

'Koloktos was a good boss'. Oh god, how we'll laugh in the future.

Curious, how many hours were you in til you decided it was time? Want a brilliant option to have in a game.

Just a little bit of advice for those just starting out in Breath of the Wild.

There are a lot of "things I wish I knew when I started BotW" articles out there. I strongly suggest ignoring them. Yes the game doesn't lead you by the hand as much as previous Zelda does, but that is for a reason. Just get out there and explore, take your time. The sense of discovery and peeling back the layers on the onion is truly wonderful. Don't deny yourself all those littler "ah ha!" dopamine release moments.

I just read one of the "things I wish I knew" articles and saw at least 5 things that made me say "NO! I loved discovering that myself".

I'm so, so sick of those articles. I was looking for something in Horizon last night, and Googled what should've been a straightforward answer, instead there were two pages of that junk. Couple that with people making 5 minute Youtube videos showing what could be answered in a single sentence and I'm almost tempted to use straight up strategy guides again.

Going to Ganon right from the start has another wrinkle beyond just being super difficult.

All of the _____blight Ganons are still alive since you never killed them in the Divine Beasts, so you have to fight all four of them in a row before fighting Calamity Ganon, no saving or checkpoints.

WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT

Hahahaha, the skill ceiling here will be beyond belief!

33
hours. Probably a little hasty in the end. There's one main quest I haven't finished up but it's needle in a haystack shit so I decided to make a run at the ending. Honestly I think I'm strong enough, I just don't have the knowledge or skills to beat him yet. With a couple of efforts I might do it. It's the exact same feeling as your first loss to a Dark Souls boss.

This is a top post. I've noticed the same myself, and am so glad this stuff wasn't out when I started as in my hunger I would inevitably have consumed it all.

It's been so long since, having been stuck at a part for a half hour, I haven't had the ability to just look at a guide... I have to go to another area and just do something else. Then you have that, "wait... maybe if I..." moment, go back and solve the puzzle, and you feel like a golden god. It has been such an old school experience in that respect and every little bit of knowledge could spoil that.

GODDAMNIT these last hours are TORTURE.

But thanks ;)

My wife was working late tonight so I decided to do so as well. I'm picking up the system at Best Buy in a few hours, so I got home and opened the door to this:

Freaking awesome.
You married a keeper.

That's awesome.

Hahahaha, the skill ceiling here will be beyond belief!

This is what I said during E3 2016 in response to Aonuma claiming you can fight Ganon immediately:

This is a good thing. If executed properly, this suggests that the game has a high skill-ceiling.

That gives the game depth and breadth. Players gain (literal) experience playing, familiarizing themselves with various enemy types, getting comfortable with the physics engine, learning which strategies work best against which enemies, how to manipulate/traverse particular terrains, etc.

Once this knowledge base develops, the next step is the trend towards optimal strategies. The key here is that each individual player will find their own optimal way of doing things as they get comfortable with the game/controls.

Monster/enemy X may be most easily killed by combat method Y. However, perhaps the player is just really good at implementing combat method Z, thus for said player, optimal strategy might just be spamming method Z in the face of everything.

Replace combat/enemy with traversal/terrain and its the same applied concept.

The important thing to recognize is that MOST games already have this kind of system. HOWEVER, Aounuma's prodding is suggesting that this game will do this with a level of depth that isn't often or ever seen in Action/Adventure RPGs, which instead tend to focus on using in-game experience points to boost in-game skills - rather than allowing the actual human player to develop skills themselves via experience/experimentation. This, in theory, allows for much more unique experience, player to player, but also rewards experienced players - because their invested time/acquired skills will pay off (if you're good enough, you can kill things quicker, save more health, traverse areas fadter, tackle more difficult challenges earlier on, etc.).

This as opposed to a game like the Witcher 3 (which I adore and have put >650 hours into btw), where you level up your character more than yourself. Think about it; greater tolerance for potions, stronger/quicker attacks, enhanced signs, all of these skills are added by applying skill points, they don't require the player to actually learn something. The extent of learning for the player is attack pattern rhythyms for certain monster types and mastering the counter system. The skill curve is minor and the skill ceiling is low, Geralt improves because you can overpower him if you play/grind long enough. In BotW - YOU will improve if you grind long/hard enough (think competitive Melee).

Of course this is all talk until we can actually play the game, but with what little we saw, this is the exact picture being painted IMO. Look at how many gifys we've got of different ways to approach tackling enemy types, adapting to & using the specific environment to fight monsters, using countless methods to accomplish the same task. It's all very encouraging. This looks like a genius game.

Glad to see that it seems this has come to fruition, what an experience to be had from a single-player Action-Adventure game.

Insane OT great work to all involved!

Need to head out and pick up my copy. Had it reserved somewhere else since amazon jp was out of stock at the time. Which then later on went back in stock wtf lol

Really beautiful OT, Übermatik. My WiiU copy has officially shipped. Now all I have to do is get through work tomorrow and I can play all weekend :)

Well played twilight orincess al day and finally got 20 hearts for the wolf link amiibo.

Gonna sleep now:p 6-8 hours left for switch and zelda

Aw man what the flying f**k...spent two and a half hours downloading Zelda and when it finished I got an error and now I have to re-download it from the start again. I knew I should've went physical...this sucks. Sigh.

Sucks no pre-load option.

Unless my connection goes SUPER FAST, I can get in a few hours tomorrow before work---is there a lengthy tutorial, and can you save anywhere?

I'm still amazed I resisted looking up stuff on this game...basically going in blind.

So I just preordered the Wii U copy, but when I used my Best Buy gift card that I thought had only $44 on it, it turned out it was able to cover the whole cost. That made me remember that this card has an additional $200 on it from buying two phones that each came with $100 gift cards.

I'll be headed to Best Buy soon to buy a Switch if they have one in stock. If not, I'll just pick up the Wii U copy of the game that I just preordered.

When do I get a shirt? Feel like I'm missing something lmao. Just beat first shrine

Dont you get one on the cave you wake up?

Edit: re going straight to the final boss
people still need to figure out a way to defeat it, one guy tried but didnt find a way to damage it without finishing at least one dungeon

Has anyone pre-ordered the Wii U version digitally from amazon? Wondering if they are reliable about sending the download code when the game unlocks at midnight.

Love it. Played for a few hours. Oh wow, you can
dye armor
in the game! Caught off guard on that one. Too bad I didn't have the materials for the color I wanted.

Can you not turn off subtitles in the game? Every cutscene so far has them. And when do you unlock memories? Still haven't unlocked a one.

Freaking awesome.

I'm so jealous of ur wife. My wife would never in a million years do anything like this.

Shed be like.. "great more gadget..."

Was just able to load this OT (on my phone all day) and it's OUTSTANDING!

This is better than the Zelda website for BoTW, they should flip theirs out for yours OP. Just gotta loop the main theme in the background and it's perfection.

Now back to rewatching trailer #3.

No lengthy tutorial. You're in the open world in the first 5 minutes. Game just reveals its mechanics as you go.

Can save at any time from the main menu.

So I just checked amazon for the status of my Wii U version and it says March 31st T_T

I pre ordered this thing mooooonths ago. Is there any recourse or do I just have to eat that time?

And yeah, the framerate gets iffy sometimes, thankfully not all the time. I've seen it in towns and places with lots of grass/trees.

Anybody know if theres a separate regular retail copy of the game inside the special edition? Mines not arriving till monday and im considering getting the game before then and selling mine when it arrives if so

Try contacting amazon support and see if they can fix the situation.

You need to spoil tag this please

Got it this morning at a Tsutaya nearby.

Finally, I've been waiting to see a Wii u case for botw forever. Looks really good although I must admit I do wonder how it would look with the darker banner and case. Really hope my copy shows up in the morning.

Super obvious with the tablet stuff that this was going to have much more Wii U centric gameplay but oh well

Also is there any requirement to manually save? Seems to save fairly regularly
