I'm so bad at parrying:(

Best way to get good at parrying is to go to the Central Tower and parry a guardian's laser.

Not sure if this has been asked, but how do I jump and glide? I keep having problems with doing it consistently in that one shrine where you first have to do it. Anyone else got issues with it or am I doing something wrong?

You have to be high enough off the ground. So you can jump from the ground and glide when you are on a hill, but not when you are going on level ground.

About an hour in, I'm loving the game but it's such a bastard to play with the JoyCon Grip. I need to find a Pro controller ASAP.

I have the pro controller, it's eben better than the wiiU one

but I prefer to play zelda with the separate joycons, it's just so comfortable

you have to wait for the prompt in midair. i hate it. they did the same thing in far cry 3.

if i have to wait for your UI to give me the option to press a button it's going to frustrate me.

I've been playing for about 4-5 hours and am loving it! It's been mostly docked, but have played undocked just to see how better the performance was. Im getting far more frame rate dips docked, but so far it's not hurting the experience.

Odd design choice with being able to just set these huge Ice Blocks on open bodies of water and use them as platforms. they should sink, or float down stream or something. not a fan of that, seems kind of cheap imo.

Hope I can post this without spoiler tagging it since it's within the first hour or two.

I'm at the top of the first tower and the man wants me to use the scope and mark the shrines. I've tagged all of the Ones I can see and nothing seems to have happened and talking to him he says to press the menu buttton etc. Ummm what am I doing wrong?

Wait you can climb
bosses?I just encountered a huge rock boss and before i knew i was climbing on its back and hitting the weak point ala Shadow of the Colossus!

Nothing, now go to them

Go and beat the shrines!

You're not missing anything. Now that they are marked you have to go and complete them.

Beating the test for
Soh Kofi
shrine IS SO FUCKING SATISFYING!

Especially since I know im "underleveled" to be in this place. But that test was great

a few general questions

- taming a horse, do you need to hold L or press it repeatedly? or do you just need enough stamina?

- On the road to
kakariko
, I saw a
falling star
in the distance at night. I placed a marker and went there the next day, but there was nothing there. Did I miss something? was that random and/or repeatable?

- I once got a hint that there is a recipe menu somewhere, how can I access that?

So I've spent a few hours on the game, and I just beat the quest that allows me to leave the Plateau. Is there anything I should still do here before I leave? Like, is there some kind of side content or something I may have missed? I still don't have the ability to snowboard on my shield (unless I actually do and don't know how to do it). I still don't have any kind of coat or something that will make me withstand cold temperatures.

This may very well be stuff that I come across AFTER the Plateau. I just want to be sure that there's nothing on it that I don't want to be leaving behind.

- Mash the button.

- I think you have to race towards the falling stars as they disappear quite quickly. I have no clue what they do.

- After selecting an item that's created by cooking you'll have the option to see the ingredients you used to make it. Sadly there is no recipe book (that I know of anyway).

You already have the ability snowboard on your shield. Jump and parry.

Head back to the woodcutters shack before leaving the plateau.

I found a pretty easy way to make rupees quickly and early in the game...

In
Lurelin village, kind of near Hinato village, there's a dude with who you can gamble rupees, and if you choose the good chest while having gambled 100 rupees you get 300 rupees... Just save before betting, reload if you get the wrong chest lol

Ill keep that in mind, im in the complete opposite direction though.

Jump, lock on, and then press A to ride your shield. It feels awkward, but you are able to do it as soon as you pick up a shield.

Playing it on Wii U, it's fine. Occasional frame drops, more frequent in villages, but it's perfectly playable and if, like me, you generally don't care about framerates, you'll barely notice it.
Six hours and this is my impression as well. I find the criticisms completely overblown but not without basis.

Most importantly combat and traversal are ACES and I've never experienced anything close to Blighttown averages.

Are you selling stuff? I sold a gem when I went to the first village and that got me 180 rupee. The item description didn't say anything about it being useful for anything other than getting a high price so I sold it.
All the stuff I've got says it's valuable for crafting, only recently got a topaz specifically for selling.

Head back to the shrine at the snowcap, did you see a mountain that looks like it spirals all the way to the top, and looks to have a stone ontop of it? ...You may not be able to get it now, but king roam was on it and he compliments you for making it out there in the cold and gives you clothes that protects you against temperature...you may not be able to get it now, but who knows, its basically a reward for exploring the mountains

Only thing I hate so far is the weapon system. Things breaking is already old. Its past annoying now. Other than that its great. Playing 2 days so far and just started the first divine beast. Its a tricky one.

How many runes do you get past the Plateau? Or is that it?

I was worried I wouldn't like this game because of the lack of items but the runes are great. I've been on a media blackout for the game for the most part and was very pleasantly surprised by the powers you get on the Plateau, I've already found some shrines that use them in really clever ways. If the rest of the game just focuses on using the runes I have now in different ways I'll be happy, just curious if there's more later.

I'm totally loving this game. It really drives home how stale Bethesda games are getting for me. I think Oblivion was the last open world game that made me want to explore this much, and I can't remember any other game period that shows you so many amazing things right off the bat that I'm dying to get to.

Just in the first two hours I'm wondering
what happens when you go to the castle, what the deal is with that flying city/ fortress/ battleship thing, what the animal protector things are going to be like, it's really cool. I warped back to the Plateau after beating four shrines and there was a goddamn dragon flying around! It left pretty quickly but man, I can't wait to find out what that's about!

It reminds a little Half Life 2 where you can catch glimpses of that tower you reach at the end up the game throughout the whole campaign, and it makes you really curious what it will be like when you finally get there. Except there's like four or five things like that and you can travel to them whenever you feel like it.

Great, great game. I don't want to entirely excuse the lack of content coming out in the next few months but man, the small launch doesn't bother me when one of the games has me this excited to play more.

This worries me a little, especially since stronger weapons tend to be less durable from what I've seen so far. Having to carry around weaker times so you're not wasting your stronger ones on red guys sort of sucks too, though it isn't a huge deal. It would have been nice if there were some type of system where hitting weaker enemies does less damage to your weapon.

Game has definitely been a slow burn for me so far. I like it, but it's not hitting me hard yet. The framerate stuff is really, really unacceptable, and the controls feel oddly stiff. I also hate, hate, hate the battle music, but obviously that's just a personal taste thing.

That all said, the world is gorgeous and feels very mysterious and alive. I think I will eventually get super into this game, it's just gonna take me a while to get over some stuff.

So, it's been around 8 hours and I've still only collected less than 100 rupees in total. Am I missing something here, or are they just rare as hell?

I think your encouraged to sell materials, selling alot of the mechanical parts from the broken down gaurdians will net you a pretty penny early on.

Are you playing on Switch or Wii U?

So jeah this is my first Zelda ever apart from briefly playing Wind Waker HD. Am I correct my level is just not high enough for the part of the game I am in? One hitters blue goblins tear me apart and everything.

Got 4 shrines and needed to seak out ampa... road to it is very hard

Or is this the hardest nintendo game ever?

man, in the
Hateno? well the 2nd village youre supposed to visit
there,s an option to (well... not really a spoiler but just in case)
dye your armor and it basically makes everything match together. Awesome!

I would not recommend selling guardian parts.

Just sell minerals you find. Diamonds are worth 500 a piece. There are plenty of other valuable ones as well.

9.5 hours in and at my first non-shrine dungeon. If it's as fun as getting inside of it was, this is going to be a blast.

Hard game. Use better gear, farm more hearts or cook defense food

Played up til Paraglider, taking a break. Game is fantastic so far! I'm a little concerned with the number of slots for abilities but we'll see how it goes.

I read the old man's diary and I really want that doublet. Am I going to need to find raw meat and then get lucky by experimenting with all the ingredients I have?

I was worried about the durability thing, because I've never seen it implemented well, but it's astoundingly well designed here.

Not only does it add layers of item management to the game, it greatly forces weapon variety in a way I've never seen from an open world game. You play Skyrim and you wind up using one thing over and over, and while you may ugprade from Steel to Orcish to Daedric or whatever, it winds up feeling the same.

Here, I'm like: Well, this guy has a shield, so I'll switch to the hammer and smack the shit out of him. Now I'm being attacked by a Moblin, so I'll use a spear for range, etc, etc. Whatever instinct you have to use the same good shit is taken away by the low durability of all these weapons.

Yes. Keep in mind that the diary lists two of the three ingredients and it gives you a hint towards the third.
