Anyone else catch the tiny strain of notes from (previous Zelda town music theme)
Clock Town
near the snow shrine on the Great Plateau?

Any idea why they'd put that there? Definitely wasn't expecting that.

Just found out
that I can buy a house. I know what I'm going to do next. Save 3000 bucks. lol

(Second village spoiler)

I've played the Wii U version throughout the entire day. Past the Plateau and excluding the villages, the game pretty much ran great for my tastes. I am completely astounded at how this game looks even for Wii U standards.

So far, I've died twice (and had too many close calls):
-Died from freezing in water because I lost my footing on a bridge.
-Thought I could scale the tower surrounded by Guardians. The Guardians disagreed.

Has anyone else noticed harsh digital audio aliasing in the music of this game when you're playing it on a surround system? It sounds really bad.

Sounds like something done to the music to save space. Awful for a 2017 console game.

It sounds like the music on the DS version of Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney. Same harsh digital aliasing. Like a bitcrusher effect.

Loving the game, the only thing I miss is a over world theme, does it ever change in different areas? I know towns do but I also want to hear some music while exploring sometimes.

I think I'm being overwhelmed by emotions by playing this game. The freedom and ability to transverse wherever you want is fucking immense.

I typed everything that just happened but it seemed like nonsense. Basically I started out doing one thing, but then accomplished another more difficult thing I just happened to see on the way. After that, I thought I was happy and done, but then I saw another interesting thing that I wanted to visit, that thing turned out to be even more difficult... and just when I thought I'm way over my head and was starting to leave, I remembered that I already have all the tools at my disposal, gave it a second look, and then I conquered that too.

Game is magical.

Saw my weapon start sparking during a lightning storm and initially thought I was being attacked. Was like "ooh Yeah" and unequipped that bad boy fast xD

Also impressed to see an npc take shelter from the storm while complaining about the rain. So much detail in this world.

People who are able to leave point A and actually go directly to point B in games like this have more determination than I do. Unless my next goal is right around the corner, odds are I won't end up there for a long, long time. It's too easy to get distracted, and I love it.

Just got to
Kakiriko (sp?) Village
. I am loving just climbing up huge mountains and gliding everywhere.

Anyone know where the
fairy fountain
is in
Kakariko Village
?

Look around for the road that leads up to the highest point. You'll find a shrine. Further past that you'll see a forest with a huge flower. Glide down to it.

Sorry if I missed it, but I heard that there should be rumble when drawing the bow. Is this false information or are my joyconns defect ?

Just found
Beedle
for the first time. What kind of things should I be selling? Should I be keeping the ancient screws and gears for later? Is Opal, Amber, etc strictly for selling?

I just got out of the plateau... the game feels truly overwhelming. I think the last time I was so happy to just run out and explore, instead of rushing through the next objective, was the first time I ran outside the castle in Super Mario 64.

Favorite moment so far: using the ice block power to get to some distant island in the ocean in the
SE
corner of the map. It took me almost ten minutes probably, some enemies fucked with along the way. I make it to the island and it turns out it's some kind of
shrine trial and all my items are taken away. It was such an "oh shit" moment, I was so stoked. I explored a bit, gathered some supplies, killed some enemies. Started feeling pretty good about myself, and then a lightning storm rolls in. I'm standing on a tower enjoying the show when out of nowhere I get instakilled by a lightning bolt. And then I resplendent back on the mainland. Mother fucker, haha.

To top it off, the reload screen showed me a tip about not equipping metal items during lightning storms.

I love this game.

Do not sell ancient gears and screws, you need them for something important later.

Man, this game is just constantly blowing me away and im 6 hours in.

Shrines are so addicting to find and complete. I've had some seriously tense encounters with various enemies and found an awesome weapon.

Also, i'm more ok with the durability of weapons after I found out what the
korok seeds
do.

Had an amazing time playing botw yesterday night, the range of options they give you to achieve what you want to, and the way the world is (imo very smartly handcrafted and) designed to encourage exploration - oh I just did a challenge where I learned this, I wonder if I can use what I learned to get up this nearby
waterfall
since there wasn't anything behind it when I checked before. There must be something up there. There is.
I bet if I keep going and can make it up this hill there's something there. (There is) but I don't quite have the stamina... I JUST can't make it after numerous tries and waiting for the rain to go away which affects climbing. Decide I need to make elixirs to help. Decide to spend those elixirs helping to tame a wild non-spotted horse. Take him for a ride. Find there's another way round to the top. Get there, complete two cool challenges on either side. Make it down to the bottom to finish off something I rushed past earlier because I was excited to get a horse - receive something that would have made that climb possible.

Then went to sleep, had a nice dream where I was beating a frustrated Jeff at some sort of weird racing thing involving skyscrapers... get woken up by my mechanic telling me there's another issue with my car. Not even mad.

When they said they wanted the player to feel smart playing this, I didn't realise to what extent. I can't think of another game where they nail mechanics and exploration to this degree in an open world. I got a taste of that early on when there was more than one way to achieve a task that was going to be difficult with my current situation, and managing to find a way to skip past that restriction early on by exploring.

The altitude circle/steepness marker things on the map are really useful to look at when climbing without much stamina.

I remember early on in the game yesterday, I was hunting a boar in the Grand Plateau, and I failed to headshot it, so it ran from me and ran right into an enemy camp. They started attacking the boar, and when I noticed that I flanked round them and wiped them, before spearing the boar as it made a return run through the camp as it was very confused.

Moments like these make open world games, and Zelda is FILLED with them.

Something similar happened to me, though I was having trouble with the boar so I let them finish him off, they do, I clear them out but then the boar wasn't there :(

Hey Switch owners. Besides BOTW are you enjoying anything else on the Switch? Still trying to figure out if I should just get it now for Zelda or wait a little.

Snipperclips has been a joy to play. There's also Shovel Knight if you don't already have it on some other platform that you still regularly use. 1-2 Switch is pretty bad and disappointing. Super Bomberman R apparently has severe input lag and online lag issues which Konami is looking into. Making me really worried because my order isn't in yet.

I love this game.

Haha. I'm going there now but I cooked some stuff that increases speed and stamina. I hope I can swim there with those.

This game is outstanding, completely lives up to the hype. Perfect game to launch with the Switch too, as it's so unbelievably massive that being able to play in bed/on the go is ideal.

The one, single tiny quibble I have is not even a complaint at all anyway. I just would have liked a 'traditional' Zelda main menu/file select screen. The current set up really doesn't feel very Zelda-ey at all.

After 5 or so hours the list of things I love about the game is too long to mention but there's 2 big negatives for me.. I dont like the stamina system, i really don't see what it adds to a game about exploration other than annoyance. The big one is the music or lack of, i don't need full on zelda music but something other than the sound of crickets most of the time would be nice...

I'm trying to get to
Haneto tower
but the sides are covered in thorns. I guess I have to light a fire to burn them away, but so far I've wasted two flints with no results. What's the correct/easy way to light a fire?

UHH GUYS
A DRAGON JUST CAME UP OUT OF THE WATER OF LAKE HYLIA RIGHT AFTER THE BLOOD MOON HAPPENED, IM ON HYLIA ISLAND RIGHT NOW

Throw wood bundles together with a flint on the ground. Hit it with a metal weapon. That gives you a camp fire.

But you don't need fire. You can climb it. There is a path which is free of thorns. Just follow it. :)

It's a necessary limitation for the climbing mechanic. Think about how imbalanced the game would be if you could just climb to the top of everything straight away.

Lol did anyone else climb all the way up dueling peaks?? Was a crazy adventure to the top

This is specifically what I was talking about above :D - Also, I used my phone...my memory was shot by the time I got up there, was so sleepy
I stopped playing at 5am.

I like this game, although I'm definitely less stoked about it than I was expecting. Some thoughts:

-The story is really not gripping at all, although I just got to Sidon's stuff and things are starting to pick up.

-The world just feels a bit... flat and devoid of any real sense of mystery to me so far. Right now exploration boils down to getting up real high and looking for the bright lights. Shrines are puzzles or combat trials. Hopefully I'm just early and things start mixing up a bit, because right now everything I can find already sort of feels like a known quantity. This is a super tough thing to solve in open world game design obviously, but so far I'm a little bit disappointed in just how little exploration has surprised me so far. There's nothing I've discovered yet that feels like it provides insight into the world, story, lore, themes, etc.

-Playing on Wii U, the framerate is truly unacceptable. I can grin and bear it but I don't think the game should have released in this state.

-I don't like the soundtrack. The light piano is nice sometimes, but it often gets irritating. The battle music is a whole new level of annoying though, my god. Free jazz piano mixed with what sounds like an egg timer and a 90s instant messenger notification sound. It sucks.

-The interactivity of the items, powers, physics, and AI is astoundingly good. This is what's keeping me interested right now. I've had so many "woah!" moments noticing the AI do something clever like adjust their chase of me to avoid a bomb after getting hit with them a few times, baiting the enemies into fighting each other, seeing fire completely screw up a camp, etc etc. All the best aspects of MGSV and Far Cry are here - namely the way the game accounts for real world logic and provides satisfying payoffs for asking "would THIS work?"

-The durability and stamina systems work really well not only as a limiter, but as a way to get you to get out of your comfort zone and try different weapons, or really feel like you're scrounging. It's well balanced and enriches the experience.

-The game is way harder than Zelda has been in a long long time, but in a way that encourages you to try something different next time.

-Seriously fuck that battle theme

Obviously I'm gonna stick with it. This post might seem harsher than I mean it; it's an incredibly good game and I'm excited to play more, I just feel a bit disappointed by the world so far.

Fast RMX is great if you like ultra-fast arcade racing. Snipperclips is super-fun if you can play it with your friends/kids/significant other. But yeah, I'm totally justifying the purchase by having Zelda on it. OMG this game!

Thanks! I also just realised that I actually picked up a fire rod way back which I forgot I had. So I guess I could use that as well.

The Myahm Agana Shrine and
the motion-controlled labyrinth puzzle
is actual fucking torture. I know what needs to be done but I can't get it done.

I just tried to find any button that doEs this. No idea how you get into first person mode. Maybe it depends on the bow? Have you tried another basic bow?

Yeah! That's how I realised it was just that bow. I thought I had pressed some option which changed bows to being first person only, and then I switched over to a travellers bow and it worked normally. The name of the bow is
Phrenic bow
, dunno where I found it

@XANDER CAGE, The framerate on the WiiU is genuinely less noticeable playing on the gamepad where the game really is stunning (and it helps that low detail in the distance just appears so much nicer on the gamepad screen, as if it's totally natural).

I know not everyone likes to play off their tvs - but it really is a fantastic in bed game. Also are you playing the disc version? Maybe I'm not far enough yet, but the digital version installed to system memory doesn't feel unacceptable - off the gamepad anyway. And I'm usually a stickler when it comes to fps.
