Always, always, ALWAYS go with your first impulse/instinct. Now turn around and go back and fix your mistake.
 
Whilst the game's buttons may be a bit weird on the Switch (they really should have changed them from the Wii U), I think it was a genius decision to map the Sheikah Slate telescope to the right stick. Being able to immediately pull it out whenever you see anything of note makes exploration so much more fun. Whenever I see a hint of orange from an un-completed Shrine I mark it, hit "edit pin" and change it to the diamond symbol; I'm making my own quest markers.
 
Going by what people are saying about the dungeons proper in this game I'm afraid that it's going to alter my opinion of the game somewhat. If I end up feeling like the dungeons are few and lacking because they were too busy making the biggest open world they possibly could, that's not going to ring as a positive for me as I'm finding the world to be too big already.

And no, the shrines aren't dungeons to me, not in the sense I mean. So far they're been do a few things and it's over. Not what I'm talking about or looking for.

Given the quality of the shrines, I could frankly not give a damn if there weren't even dungeons in the game in general. I much prefer the Portal style of puzzle play in the shrines.
 
One thing that is a bit annoying is that you can't judge an enemy's power by the type of enemy they are. I've been one shotted way too many times by Bokoblins because I didn't pay attention to the weapon they had which probably was Sword of Link-slaying +100 or something.

To each his own. I like them okay enough but they do not substitute a big dungeon for me, not in the least bit and no matter how many there are.

I don't think so, but I haven't read the entire thing. People outside of GAF play this game, too lol. I was asking because several streamers have said it was easier than expected. I was looking for other opinions.
 
I gotta say, I REALLY hate the whole weapon degrading thing.

I'm okay with weapons having durability, but most of them last like 2-3 enemies and then they break.

I'm really hoping there are more permanent options later in the game.
 
Is rain region dependent? Like I expect more rain around the coast and swamps but is there less in the desert by comparison? I'd test it but it might take me about 25 hours to make it to the desert lol

It's much harder than I expected. Zelda games have never been much of a challenge, but I'm dying a ton. It depends on how ambitious you are (and how over your head you get).
 
Really enjoying the game so far, both in handheld and docked.

Also, is it just me or there's some kind of performance improvement in docked mode ?

Game is hard in the beginning with the hobo clothes but gets much easier the moment you get a respectable defense stat.
 
Also, I realized that getting more stamina might be a bad thing in a way - if you exhaust your stamina pool completely, you have to wait until it all regenerates back - and with more stamina upgrades, that means the regen takes more time.

You have it already. You got it as soon as you made him the food. How did you reach the shrines in the snow without the warm clothes...?

Never deplete your stamina completely. Always use it in one or two second bursts and it lasts indefinitely.

Obviously you can't always help it if you're swimming or climbing, but don't just hold it down and run it to zero when running and stuff.
 
Why does
Impa
(not a big spoiler, its only the first like hour of the game) always have such
sad
music? Doesn't matter the game, its always the same.
 
This is the Zelda Ive always wanted. I decided to say screw it and ignore going to the first main quest line. Instead, Ive explored the entire map and found each of the towers and completed tons of shrines. All with 5 hearts at this point and the starting clothing on my back.

THIS GAME IS AMAZING

You can cook peppers and eat them to stay warm in the snow. That's what I did and I ended up finding
the old man up in the mountains kind of near the shrine.

Oh come on, did you play Skyrim/Oblivion? They were garbage slogs.

Now Morrowind, this game could also be it's spiritual successor, so much detail, so much to explore, nothing holds you back, you can go anywhere.

It has a fantasy execution you can't deny, the sound, the interplay of mechanics, the physics. Heck it even has B grade voice acting, like any Bethesda title.

like a bull or bear with horns?
but it ran away before I got close. Any idea what the hell that was?
 
A couple of questions:

1. I never found the blue tunic in the Great Plateau (the one you see Link wear in promotional material). Was it located there at all, or did I completely miss it?

2. I destroyed an old lady's plum tree garden in Kakariko Village because I'm a sociopath because I thought it would do something.... Does it actually do anything?

It's easier if you focus on hit and run tactics and put effort into crafting. I managed to prepare a meal that gave me 17 temporary hearts.
 
Tips for the cold... And pics...

so guys I'm trying to find the first picture taken by Zelda, it seems to be around this mountain, but it's freezing cold. I ate something cold resistant but it seemed it was not enough, my hearts would still go down

Also the pic seems to be on a place that's not actually cold...

These Zelda locations don't seem easy

Is it a requirement to do all twelve?

It was a water buffalo. I'm making it my mission to take of photo of and document as much of everything as I can, I like reading up on the entry logs.
 
There are so many enemies that can kill you in one hit, the game is definitely as hard as advertised. Luckily the save system is generous
 
I'm loving the game and all, but does anyone else think there's some serious overall jank to this game? Switching weapons is clunky, movement on your horse is clunky, stamina makes certain things a chore, weapons break constantly, and combat as a whole feels really off.
 
Well the shrines are amazing its nice to know that a Zelda game finally has decent puzzles and not a annoying companion that spoils 99% of the "Puzzles" in the previous 3D Zelda games. So even if the dungeons turn out to be lacking it wont be a big deal at all.

Lol - I just learned a valuable lesson when talking about BotW. Everyone does everything differently.

You're supposed to make the recipe in the Old Man's diary and he will give you the doublet.

I'm almost certain the blue tunic isn't on the plateau.
