I'm kind of bailing out of Zelda threads right now, but I just wanted to pop in and say "holy shit this game is amazing" So there I said it. It's everything I hoped and wanted it to be. Shame about the performance though. Hopefully we'll get a patch that fixes it. It runs fine on handheld mode, so it looks to be some kind of streaming issue? Anyway, even with some performance issues, the game's 100 times more interesting than something like Horizon to me.

There any point to taking pics of things for the compendium, other than being able to locate a resource with the radar thing?

Can you pause during cutscenes with +? I want to try, but I don't want to skip the damn scene of it doesn't work. Will the home menu pause the scene?

So, I was scanning all of my Zelda Amiibo when one of them gave me Epona. Thank goodness the horses have great AI pathing since I had to herd two horses to a stable.

I fell off the Zelda wagon hard when it made the turn to 3D. I always loved the original 2D games as a kid, but by the time Ocarina came along the series lost something for me in the transition to 3D. I did enjoy Windwaker for the most part, and a lot of that was due to the feeling of exploring a massive world at my leisure and taking things however I wanted. Aside from that I'd always buy Zelda and never really dig into them like I did with A Link To The Past, Link's Awakening, Zelda 2, or the original LoZ.

Breath of the Wild is a breath of fresh air, and is seriously reinvigorating my love for this franchise. A love that hasn't really burned too brightly since the 90's. This world is just so God damn vast and beautiful. I feel like I'm exploring a world in a way the series hasn't given me in so long, and it's seemingly what I've wanted all along and not realized it. Where most of the latest entries faltered for me, BoTW has it's claws in me deep.

I literally just left the Plateau after spending plenty of time exploring it's various nooks and crannies. No Navi, or Fi constantly harping me, or pushing me on where to go. If I see a strange looking stone on top of a mountain, I can drop everything and go there. Everywhere I go I'm finding new things, or digging into the game's various systems that Nintendo intelligently left vague enough to make exploring them a little adventure of their own.

I really hope this is the direction Nintendo continue to go with Zelda. They'll have me back on board for certain.

Two questions :)

1. Does anyone have the completion % in their map screen on the bottom right corner at all? The guide claims its there and the Easy Ally review said they were at 21% completion, but I cant see anything. Checked prepatch youtube videos and post and nothing.

2. I used my Link (Horse) Amiibo and was given
a saddle and some reigns, how do I use these? There in the key items section at the moment but no idea how to equip them,

Thanks!

I've also gone Pro HUD, first time I've ever removed a mini map and its certainly interesting...

I was talking to
Impa's granddaughter, when she mentioned that she was named after seed of a fruit her birthmark resembled. I had the option to ask where it was and Impa butted in and told to change the subject.
Cock-blocked by an old lady.

I loved that scene. I can imagine how awkward it was for everyone involved. That said, I do hope we can resume that conversation at a later time.

The NPC designs and dialogue are so well done but what really sells me are the animations and how they express themselves. Its so fluid and charming. I keep overusing that word but thats basically this game in a nutshell.

How do you find the koroks? I have only found one so far in lots of hours played...

Anything that looks unusual environmentally is usually a Korok. A strangely placed block, a circle of flowers, a lone stone on the top of a tall peak... just stay aware as you travel and you'll find a ton of them naturally.

Just climbing up the flagpoles you see will typically uncover a fair few.

So far I'm not really seeing what 10/10 material here. I mean, the physics stuff is cool, but the world is too big and empty for the most part. Run big stretches of empty, then fight the same enemy camps. The shrines are just boring filler and all look the same. Hope it gets better

Anyone know how to solve the crowned beast (shrine quest in rabia plains)?

A beast that wears a crown of bone,
prancing through the lush green.
Mount the beast upon its throne,
For only then the shrine is seen.

I've searched around and can't seem to find any beasts with crowns of bone. I saw a sleeping giant a ways away -- does that have something to do with it? It wasn't in the lush green or prancing, though, so probably not

Haven't reached that part, but my first intuition upon reading that is riding an elk / deer.

Where's the construction boss in Hateno village? The person at the abandoned house says to find him but I scoured the town and saw no sign of him.

The random NPC dialogue in this game is just fantastic.

There was a lady in a village that wanted to show me something but couldn't becasue of the rain. Every time I came back to here when it wasn't raining, she was busy, going to bed, or nowhere to be found. She had a ! too. Haven't figured out her trigger yet.

I just don't see that. The world is filled to the brim with stuff to do. I've just spent 5 hours just wandering the world and being amazed at the variety of things I saw. The environments feel very designed, there really isn't that much filler imo. But to each his own I guess.

Behind the house being demolished

I find people who say the map is empty don't bother actually paying attention to the environment. There's chests, korok seeds, secret hidden weapons every 35 meters.

Ok, the area around Hyrule castle is dangerous. So many guardians just hanging out there.

There's a red x on the map which shows RIP. What does it mean?

I know. My wife thought I was watching a movie at first when she walked in last night. Said she hadn't seen this one before, oh wait this is Zelda. Another reason people in doubt should just go buy it and play it for themselves. Reading about it and watching videos about it does not do it justice.

Does anyone know what the number on the first heart on some of the cooking recipes mean? I had assumed it was for total health recovered to shorten the display but it still seems weird that they still display multiple hearts for some.

Fighting some Bobokins on the way hateno, my horse gets hit, freaks out and runs off a cliff into the river.

I can't get it out.

I also get immense satisfaction by kicking bobokin skulls off of ledges.

Mount a deer with antlers maybe?

Show off your Link! I guess they should be spoilers.

Is it me or does the WIi U take crappy image quality pictures?

Go stuck, need some help.

So I'm on the Goron quest line and I got to the end of the Abandoned North Mine but have no idea how to get Yonobu out of there. Tried everything and now I'm wondering if there's an item I missed.

That Twin Memory shine was a pretty neat puzzle. Didn't think they'll interconnect some shrines

You're talking about the Dueling Peak shrines, right? Apparently everybody has done and see these but me. I have no idea where they are and why everybody but me seemed to have no trouble stumbling upon them.

As far as I'm concerned, this game goes from amazing to one of the greatest games ever made on Pro mode.

Agreed. All the UI elements distracted me way too much. I'm not nearly as efficient running around mindlessly but I don't give a single shit about it. I want this game to last me as long as possible.

The
Shrine Detector
was constantly pinging and making noises. Way to distracting, I'm gonna find those on myself.

My first horse ran around during a fight and got stuck, standing on the side of a cliff. Looks like a Witcher 3 homage bug. The game informs me that 'Your horse isn't able to come to you right now'... No kidding :P

I guess it's time for a new horse.

I can't get it out.

That might have been just the same cliff.

's Diary was such a great read. Gave some more insight into the story as well as herself. I liked how the writing progressed as
she got younger. The tone got more and more casual
. Such a neat attention to detail.

Only a few places are empty like Hyrule field. I mean, its a big open field. It's supposed to be relatively uneventful. You need places like that to create scale. Fortunately for the rest of the world is chock full of things to do. Not to call you out, but this reads like many of the trolls giving it a 0 when they clearly have not played it. It could be just your case you chose to go off to the empty areas first. But as everyone with some time in the game can attest to, it is not "empty for the most part" as you described.

I guess many people stay only on the road. If you don't climb and venture out, you are missing so much.

How do you get Korok seeds? I thought some would be in Kakariko village but I didnt see any

I want inventory expansion

Pay attention to unusual marks during your travels. Rocks with holes nearby and that kind of stuff. They like to hide under rocks, or behind a small trial.
I got around 8 seeds by the time I got to the village.

I just ripped a half-buried metal chest from the ground via magnesis but used too much force. It launched into the air and landed on me, nearly killing me lol

18 hours in and just did my first dungeon. The (element)
-----water-----
one.

Well damn the leadup was awesome. The actual dungeon was amazing to figure. Its so trippy.

Yeah the leadup into entering that one was pretty cool. Hopefully the other ones are just as cool.

It was quite a interesting dungeon, particularly
using the trunk to get access to a few of the terminals.
Wasn't really that long to get through, but the non-linear aspect of it was neat. Kind of worry that all 4 dungeons are going to feel too same-y in theme through, but each having their own interesting mechanics to mess around with could make up for it.

Absolutely wonderful game. I was gliding away and from somewhere I couldnt see and did not even know had enemies, a bomb arrow goes shooting past me, hits the cliff just beside me, and the blast sends me plummeting to the ground and dead.

Coupled with the moments of, I can take these guys...wham...dead. and the joy of discovery through the world...and the shrines. This is really special.

Kicked a Moblin one off a large cliff near a tower. The two Moblin skeletons without heads stood at the edge of the cliff waiting. I climbed the tower, activated it. Went back down, to see the skull chomp its way back to the top where it was picked up and put on. Crazy!

So, I'm on the island where all your items are gone... You need to place three balls on three different plates, one ball fell down from a mountain and I thought it was a good idea to place it on a plate elsewhere. Now I have the ball from the cyclops left, with no way to get it up the mountain? Reboot mission? :(

I'm confused. Isn't is only one entry? It says she's only just begun writing in it when you find it.
