No. I completely get this sentiment.

There is no sense of momentum whatsoever because I'm constantly daisy-chaining a thousand trivial little things. I've been playing for seventeen hours and haven't found any memories or met any story characters besides one. I complete a bunch of shrines and get the item rewards inside, but they break and then it's like they were never there.

I have Korok Seeds I can't spent. I have raw materials I can't use. I haven't made any changes to my wardrobe or Sheikah Slate. For all the time I've been playing, I've ultimately accomplished very little, and it's been all for disposable or consumable rewards. Every time I try to make legitimate progress, I end up exploring for three hours and stumbling upon another unrelated story element. This is different from how I normally play these kind stuff of games where I see side quests all the way through before starting another one.

If I had to boil my complaints about the game down to a single detail, it's the impermanence of your reward for all the time you invest and all the land you explore.
Yeah, I guess I miss having every reward being relatively significant, it's kind of tough to get excited about Korok seeds when there are
900 of them
, even though Korok puzzles are generally fun.
Like with any game, don't burn yourself and don't feel forced. You can always come back later to do X stuff you didn't do. Open worlds games usually ask you to find your own pace.

Edit: my routine is simple
- advance story to a new map
- unlock tower in that new zone
- hoard everything I can see (kill camp, do shrines, loot)
- cook
- advance story
- explore each square of the map before moving on to story to see if I missed anything (so I activate the damn sensor at that moment lol)
- cook
That sounds pretty nice actually, I'll try something like that. I just wish that I didn't feel like I was forcing myself to play in a certain way in order to have fun.

There are so many small details in this game that it's staggering. Just got to the second village that the main quest takes you too. Amazing. The outfits look incredible.

So far It looks like this may be my GOTY.

I often fall into this trap. Did for a bit with this game too. But I've been making sure I just do whatever I feel like doing instead of going OCD with fully exploring each area. There's definitely no right way to play this game.ive also been finding all the side stuff, secrets and general exploration to be entirely satisfying in and of itself. The rewards are just a bonus.

I know it's stupid expensive, but my god is the Pro controller button layout and sticks far superior. It feels like an XB1 controller...so for me, damn near perfect.

rain really fucks you up in this game

im trying to bring fire to a goddamn place but its raining every 30secs just to piss me off

oh yeah theres also the lightning
that will fucking ohko you if youre using anything with metal

it also makes climbing also almost impossible

and it kills the framerate too

fuck rain

There is plenty of preamble before you get, so you can remove the metal.

So is there a new game plus to this? Just finished the game and the default menu option was "New Game". Will I lose my completed save data if I start a new one?

Just got roasted by a guardian while on horseback. Sent me back a long way, fuck. Why do I bother, might as well walk the whole way and glide.

Oh I know. It's just annoying as hell, pretty nuch made just to piss you off

also im pretty sure a lot of peeps went "huh?" the first time it happened and after getting shocked one time

Because the system has a limited amount of foods that can created in a lot of different ways. Plus there is RNG on cooking.
Just kind of weird because I stumbled on a diary with some recipes in it. Would be neat if the game kept track of them somewhere like Monster Hunter does.

Doesn't really help to know the recipe of something when you're not allowed to see it while grabbing things from your inventory.

I mean, It's just a guess since I haven't killed the
elephant Divine Beast
yet. But I bet the rain happens less often in that area afterwards.

Complaints:

  • Frame rate drops unacceptably when docked
  • Lot of ugly aliasing issues
  • Everything is misty/hazy all the time, like I can't see more than 500 feet in front of me.
  • Motion control is terrible. Specifically,
    Toto Sah Shrine
was awful. And that's early, so I imagine there's more pain to come.
  • Jumping off ledges is finnicky. 80% of my deaths and annoyances have come from running straight off a cliff when I know I hit jump.
Still having a good time, but like... I hope the Switch bombs so that Nintendo eventually goes third-party and is forced to make a Zelda game on actual next-gen hardware.

EDIT: Oh, also... what's with the inventory capacity constraint? I'm spending way too much time doing inventory management.

Anyone know which shrine?

It's an optional chest at the dueling peaks on the way to the first village, not one of the first four shrines on the plateau. There's 3 shrines there close to one another, it's the one that's NOT twin memories.

Gradually falling more and more in love with this game. Decided to head towards the first of the
four divine beasts
and I'm very nearly in
Zora's Domain
to progress the main story. However, for everything propelling me forward to unlock the key story moments and power ups, another part of me just wants to get there so I can unlock a fast travel point and then go off and explore elsewhere.

I also accidentally cooked up some Sneaky Steamed Meat which got a chuckle out of me and the wife.

Eventide Island Round 2 was a success. Probably my favorite area of the game so far.
The reward was super underwhelming though.

Unless you're riding in a straight line, being on horseback sucks. I find myself trying to ride the hose, and finally saying "screw it" and jumping off. He can go jump off a cliff. It's easier to just run.

Motion control is good to me. Especially aiming with the bow. That last thing you wrote is just stupid.

You're going to be waiting quite awhile...

Not to mention if Nintendo did stop making consoles, they wouldn't be making high quality games for PlayStation or whatever.

They make incredible games in large part to the fact that A) they know their own hardware back to front and B) they make games to sell their own consoles.

They aren't going to go 3rd party and start making big AAA multi platform games. It will literally never happen. If Nintendo were to get out of the console business, best case scenario they still make handhelds probably closer to something like the 3DS with lower overhead, and you wouldn't be getting BOTW caliber games on it. Worst case, they close up shop and maybe make some smartphone games.

Everything about that island was incredible. It's a little microcosm of the entire game from beginning to end. Everything that's good about the game is contained there, and then you get a minigame for completing it.

The puzzle where you
had to use a raft to get the ball in the hole
was pure BotW brilliance, it just occurred to me so organically. Fighting the Hinox with
almost no items
was also a real thrill. Had to use rocks rolled down a hill to take care of a lot of the job.

This riddle from Kass... "at 17 of 24"? I honestly have no clue.

After a moment thinking about it I guessed '24' must refer to hours, so at 17:00 the shadow of the pillar will point you to the treasure. It was night, though, so I didn't stick around to find out.

You got a Switch And Zelda (and maybe more, idk) on day one and you want Nintendo to go third party????

Lol you're not exactly helping your
dumb
wish to be achieved...

Got to the
desert
last night and think it's my favorite area so far visually, just stunning. The way the geography is laid out, with the
desert storm cloud obscuring the divine beast showing you snippets of its form gives me serious castle in the sky/howls moving castle vibes, all thrown into a SOTC type stew with the barren landscape. Fantastic visual design in this region.

Yeah, I just arrive there, and love the area too, and
seeing the divine beast roaming through the sandstorm.

My new favorite moment is when I ran away from a
wizzrobe
and it suddenly
cast this huge spell that literally rained endless meteors of fire from the air as I tried to climb a rockface to safety.

Nintendo is not messing around in their enemy design this time around.

2nd Village spoilers:

Lmao @
Purah. Moe as fuck. She even has the Japanese elementary school backpack.

NINTENDOOOOOOOOOOO

I was talking to
Impa's granddaughter, when she mentioned that she was named after seed of a fruit her birthmark resembled. I had the option to ask where it was and Impa butted in and told to change the subject.
Cock-blocked by an old lady.

Hah, I handled both situations differently!
I didn't kill the Hinox, I just snatched the ball off its neck. And then I tossed the ball into the water and then used ice blocks to get it to the platform.
This game is so good, mannnn

Also, I barely bothered with cooking before the island. Now I really see how useful it is, especially in getting extra hearts.

The random NPC dialogue in this game is just fantastic.

Anyone know how to solve the crowned beast (shrine quest in rabia plains)?

A beast that wears a crown of bone,
prancing through the lush green.
Mount the beast upon its throne,
For only then the shrine is seen.

I've searched around and can't seem to find any beasts with crowns of bone. I saw a sleeping giant a ways away -- does that have something to do with it? It wasn't in the lush green or prancing, though, so probably not

I was just about to ask this.

Can anyone give me just a hint but not the solution?

18 hours in and just did my first dungeon. The (element)
-----water-----
one.

Well damn the leadup was awesome. The actual dungeon was amazing to figure. Its so trippy.

About 15 hours in and my only real complaint is weapon management. Please tell me there are some really durable pieces that I can grab later so that I'm not changing weapons every other encounter
