Its because the game is so enjoyable most of us are able to look past the technical issues. Hate to think what you would have been like in the pre-ps2 era.
Awesome. It doesn't mean they are not there. Considering how most reviews and gaffers tend to mention pop in, these days, it is kind of weird many people are ignoring a lot of the game's flaws ( and there are many)

The game is pretty awesome, overall, but considering the hype levels and the current state of videogames, it's okay to want games that are fun af and perform well. Look at the guy's username, he's definitely a zelda fan and has probably played ps1/2 era games like OoT and WW.

Not even taking the time to read the thread. Just popping in to say that deflecting laser beams back at guardians is the most satisfying thing ever, and it doesn't even matter how easy it is to do. Every single time I do it with my shitty wooden shield when a miss would one shot me makes me feel boss as fuck, and I've only missed twice so far. I thought it was going to end up being harder to kill the walking around ones, but nope. Almost feels like cheating.

Didn't know you could do that. Just parry at the right time?

Holy shit I just did the modest test of strength shrine (Muwo Jeem Shrine) with weapons that did 10 damage or under. I buffed my defense and had to keep throwing bombs at the guardian when it was charging up it's laser for it's final attack. It wasn't worth it to keep trying to evade his beams and then attack him with a slow sledgehammer so I just focused on dodging the beams by running in a straight line from one side of the room to another. I was totally under-equipped but still managed to do it :D

I only have 4 hearts so when I did get hit by a beam, it put me to half a heart. It was a good thing I had three pages of food made :P

Yeah, I ran into that around the same point and had a crazy battle in there.

There's an even harder one near there with three arms that I ran into not long after (a "Major Test of Strength one"). Was worth doing though because he dropped all three of those arms and they served me very well for quite a long time from there.

Also, what is the deal with the shrine-like platform with a hole in the middle? I think it's near Kakariko. It's been asked about a few times but I haven't seen an answer.

I saw someone mention the ball in Impa's house. I'd already assumed that was relevant. I just don't know where to take the theory from there, because I can walk out of there with it... can I?

Awww shit, I just walked into that one now! I at least have the equipment from the first one so this one should technically be easier :D

For the life of me I can't tame a horse. Do you really need stamina upgrades before you can get your first horse? I'm getting tired walking everywhere.

Yeah. It one shots the ones on the plateau and takes three reflects to kill the couple I've killed that are more operational in the world. Timing can be different on the moving ones since they like to keep coming closer to you, but if you just keep backing away you should be able to keep it consistent. It really is just waiting to see the blue flash of them shooting and then bam.

Yep - I mentioned earlier in the thread that if I had run into those in the opposite order I might have just come back later, but since I had the previous guy's weapons I figured why not. It's definitely worth it.

I just did this this morning.

You can't just walk in and take it, you have to do three side quests first in the area. From what I can remember it's the cooking something for the kid, finding all the cuckoos and then finding the five fireflies. Once you've done these three, go back into Impa's house to start a new shine quest
if you want to know how to solve this shrine quest, I'll spoil it for you next..

follow one of the guards who stands outside Impa's house. He starts moving at exactly 10pm. Don't let him see you.

Try to get a horse with spots, they are easier to tame. The one coloured horses are more difficult to tame, but they are faster and have more stamina iirc.

get a spotted horse, they have a gentle temperament and easier to control. solid color horses are tough if you don't have enough stamina.

Hey, in the elephant structure, how do I make it into the trunk?

Do they respawn?

Sneak up behind them and when you mount them press L repeatedly to soothe them. It doesn't soothe them immediately, just do it every so often when riding them around. They'll eventually start being obedient.

Edit: Just saw your other post lol.

Are either of the Amiibo-locked characters
(Wolf Link and Epona)
worth it? I would never otherwise purchase an amiibo, so they'd essentially be 15 dollar DLC. But I do very much want the complete Breath of the Wild experience.

I think bucks/elk can drop them.

You can get it from wild wolves.

they're sooooo good. I've gotten stuck on a number of them, and then the solution just "clicks" and it all comes together and I get such a nice feeling.

It's kind of funny (maybe even a little sad?) that the "proper" dungeon puzzle I've done (Ruta) was pretty boring compared to the shrines I've done. I like the Portal test champion experience, it works really well for Zelda, which I never would have guesses.

I got some from a big elk that Wolf Link killed on his "MUST slaughter of all wild life" goal in life

Haha thanks all :)

Trying to figure out a puzzle, wondering if anyone can lend a hand. Very minor location spoilers for anyone very early in the game.

Just East of Kakariko and south of the nearby Fairy Fountain there's an orange glowing platform with an indentation for one of those orbs to sit in, but I've searched the area and can't find one to plug in. Anyone have any ideas where the orb might be? The area has a little pond with ramshackle wooden bridge and lots of trees all around.

Not feeling the game at all after a couple hours in. Think I prefer the more traditional structure and the lack of music is weird (overworld).

I've just answered this in post 6919. The orb is sat in Impa's house next to her, but you can't just walk in and grab it..

Should I be selling the machine parts?

Also what do the numbers on on weapons/armour mean like 3->5 or 12->2 etc
you can use the machine parts to upgrade your sheikah slate, whatever that entails

numbers mean current and new power/defense if you change them

Quick question to those that have used both the joycon grip and a Pro controller--is the Pro controller more comfortable to use for Zelda? Are the buttons/layout better, meaning the D-pad, etc? I still can't get used to the joycon button placement, and the controller feels a bit cramped when playing the game. I wish it was a bit wider or something, or at least able to swap buttons.

THought about getting a Pro, but they are damn expensive, and only for me to use for 1 game. It would be more convenient though, since I wouldnt' have to take the controllers of the Switch.

I was doing that until I ran out of pins. They don't give you nearly enough.

How are you running out of pins? I mean, if you scout for Shrines and then just ignore them, what's the point? If you're not ignoring them, once you get within sight of a shrine it registers on the map and you don't need the pin anymore.

Even if you don't want to tackle every shrine or get stuck at the puzzles, it's best to register your slate at every nearby shrine as soon as possible just to make them available as quick travel points.

The Pro Controller is the best controller I have ever used in my life. It's incredibly comfortable and basically made for Zelda. Everything is within read and I never feel cramped playing with it. The Joycons on the other hand... :P

What the hell just happened? I was showing the game off to a friend who was curious and all of a sudden the sky gets dark and red and all these embers start flashing about and it cuts to some mini-cut scene about the blood moon. Is this story-related from time elapsing, or is this some random thing that happens every now and then?

I stole my first horse with spots from a mounted enemy, so that's an option as well.

That's how I got my first horse as well :)
I was just running around in a field gathering stuff and suddenly saw a bokoblin on a horse and knocked him off and stole his horse lol.

From what I've gathered its when all the mobs reset. Happens every few nights or so.

Also - goddamn the voice acting in this game is terrible. Sill love it though!

Cooking is great. Bulk cooking. Bulk cooking isn't as great. I've only got three hearts so it's best to make a ton of small dishes since making mega heart full heal plus 5 curry just goes to waste.

Do they respawn?

I'm not sure, but can check right when I start playing again today. Sorry I can't answer right away.

Have you tried the joycon's disconnected and without the strap slide attached? Trying to play the game with and without them attached to the screen was a night and day thing for me, with it feeling really good with them "dissconected" and strapless.

First, you are out of your mind...unless you've not touched an Elite controller. Secondly, the Pro is a really nice controller. Actually reminds me of the XB1 controller and is without a doubt the superior way to play this game. Joycons are a last resort after using this thing.

Joycons disconnected are a bit better, but it's basically still Vita sticks and cramped button placement. I know they are expensive, but go Pro if you can.

I'm probably 5 or 6 hours into the game and haven't done too much besides explore and do a few shrines. In most open world games I get frustrated by having TOO much stuff to do but not this game. I'm just going wherever I end up going. I start heading towards a spot I pinned with the scope and get distracted by something and get off track. Yet I'm okay with that happening again and again because this game is so damn good. I wish I wasn't at work right now so I could play.

Agh, the terrible performance is so frustrating.

Also the people in this game live in the coziest goddamn houses. Just got to
Hateno
Village.
