The first Legend of Zelda game (NES) was sold for the equivalent of 130 dollars today

And really when you think about it it's a no-brainer. N64 games were $60-70. Brand new games right now are $60. How many other forms of complex expensive entertainment are the exact same price that they were 30 years ago?
Digital entertainment has gotten way too cheap, super easy to access, and there are endless alternatives. Game industry just has to get used to that. We're talking about digital stuff that can drop down to a dollar. Even if I stopped buying games today, I'd still have years of free content to play—plus all the stuff I already own in my backlog. And with the new generation that's more into watching games than actually playing them, things are only gonna get worse.

I want them to push game prices up to $125 just to see the backlash and sales numbers though.
