Simple cooking tip: Using ingredients with different effects will cancel everything out and net you food that only heals. Likely the same applies for elixirs. So if you want something make sure you only use one ingredient with the effect of many ingredients with the same effect

Does anyone else like the durability concept? There's no point if you can keep a super powerful weapon infinitely or for too long.

That's why when I use my weapons I use them from weakest to strongest

It's not a fun gameplay design. There's no joy in getting a weapon when you know it's only good for a few battles at most.

20 mins to run from one end of the map to the other? I find that really hard to believe. Where is this sourced from?
I said about 20 mins, not 20 mins in exact. I checked again and can confirm that it's 28 minutes (a bit of detours here and there included), south to north. But BoTW map is slightly wider than it is taller, so he did a bit of math and put the time it would take from east to west to about 33 minutes.

That's still less than GTA5's 44-60 minutes from one end to the other despite it being only 81 sq miles compared to Zelda's 360 sq miles

I really hated the idea of it at first but as easy as it is to come across new weapons and bows, I have no issues with it now. Plus if I always had the same one or two weapons, I think the combat would get kind of stale. I love having to always use something different as time goes on. I do wish shields were a bit more common but I'm getting better at simply dodging which I prefer.

It just makes me hesitant to actually use anything, especially the ones with unique effects. I'm not about waste some weapon with a freeze effect on jobbers but it sucks carrying it around, taking up an inventory slot for the few bigger fights.

i been through 2 dungeons with the startin gear and only stamina upgrades. It seems hard but its actually doable. I still cant fight the guardians but I may try soon.

The next place you could go is north of kakariko, there is a swamp with a bunch of shirines, the game will guide you from there.
I think that's where I am right now...
met some prince and got a mission.

Eventide island
caught me by complete surprise, the perfect culmination of what makes this game's mechanics great, and
you can't even save!
Amazing.

Finished my first dungeon, the
Zora Elephant
one.

Related to that dungeon:
I was stuck for a bit because I didn't realize you needed to get the map to manipulate the trunk. I tried everything possible to get the second terminal before resolving to go try to get the map and try again. Once I got the map the rest of the dungeon was easy.

22ish hours in maybe.

I usualy hate it because good or decent weapons are rare but here ? Just go out and explore! I've 3 thunder rods, 1 ice rod and 1 fire rod: I'm not close to break them, lol

So you can respec in
Hateno Village.

Talk to the kid playing in the road and he'll lead you to a statue to the right and you can swap around hearts and stamina at will.

so if there's a treasure chest icon next to the shrine's name on the map that means I missed a chest right?

I went back to one last night but couldn't find anything D: I forgot which one exactly but it was a strength test. had to fight a guardian and there were breakable pillars. Not home rn but I'll check again when I get back.

I have no real complaints. I always have cool stuff on hand. The boomerang in particular is my favorite atm.

Holy shit.

I would like to see how much durability a weapon has left tbh. I don't like having to break the flow of fight when the weapon goes bust so having numbers would be beneficial.

Coming across new weapon is easy as enemies drop it frequently but it also means I have to keep atleast one shit weapon (by comparison to others) in my inventory to avoid using good ones against low level mobs.

How do you get high level heat or cooling effects?

Either stack more of the item that has the cooling/heating property while cooking or get gear that has those properties. I think there are two discreet forms of resistance as well. Like for hot weather, there heat mitigation which only goes to a certain point and straight up immunity.

Not being able to see the level of durability an item has left, whether through numbers or a bar, is a pretty big misstep imo.

I would like to see how much durability a weapon has left tbh and would also have liked a repair mechanic (not portable one but you have to wait until til you get to a blacksmith to repair). I don't like having to break the flow of fight when the weapon goes bust so having numbers would be beneficial.
Yeah some type of durability gauge would go a long ways. Right now I just throw my weapons (for a guaranteed crit) once they're red and blinking but maybe I could get in an extra hit or two before ditching them

This might be my favourite game since Bloodborne (weird combo I know). That was the last time I thought this much about a game while not playing it.

Stasis puzzle?

I only used stasis for stopping some movement.
Yeah that's the one. I kept using stasis wrong by using it and hitting it as much as I could. Broke two weapons before I said: "Fuck this shit." Then I found out about the trunk and did it without stasis. 😂

Good weapons last longer than a few battles but yeah, I get your point. The problem is they want you to play the game in a totally non linear approach so they don't want you to ever become overpowered. I prefer they way they did this than to scale up enemy levels as you gain power. It's really fresh and interesting and totally works for me. Obviously not a solution for all games though.

No, chest means you've looted it. Yellow sign means it's not done, blue is complete. So you want blue name with chest icon.

How do you party the loser by raising the shield ?, If so I dunno why I haven't tried I just dodged them ran away till he ceases fire

Not the tiny lasers it fires quickly, but the huge death laser that he does nothing else but charge up to use, it instantly kills you or him.

To parry you raise your shield and press A to bash with it. If timed perfectly it will deflect projectiles back or stop an incoming weapon, leaving enemies ooen

it's an interesting mechanic, and adds to the survivability theme. but I feel like there's a better way than weapons breaking after 1 or 2 fights.

Do I ever get given recipes? Because randomly cooking things is really not helping.
You can buy products and look at the recipe...

Is he really running? Seems awfully slow, that almost make me want to boot GTA V, I didn't remember moving being so slow.

And Zelda is 140 square miles, no? It's 360 square kilometers, if I'm not mistaken. Taking into account the difference of motion, 33min / 44min doesn't seem that surprising...

I'm enjoying it quite a bit, actually. I usually start fights by throwing my trashest weapon in someone's face, it's good to have a weapon slot open so you can pick up the ones that drop during the fight. It's very satisfying to disarm an opponent and snag their weapon off the ground before they can recover it. Then throw that trash spear or club in someone else's face. I don't ever feel like I'm in danger of running out of decent weapons, it's an easy come easy go dynamic.

I equip based off of need at the time. If I'm in a dangerous area and want to be sure I can quickly even the odds if I get ambushed or attacked by something strong, I'll have one of my stronger one-handed weapons out, along with my shield for defense.

If it's a casual area I am more familiar with, I'll use whatever's weakest/disposable.

If it's a forced fight against a strong, imposing enemy - whatever is my strongest equipment at the time, with one-handed or two depending on the enemy. Though I default to one-handed weapons and enjoy their speed, I've found some stronger enemies are easier to deal with using two-handed weapons as they can get thrown off-balance and flinch whereas they don't when hit by one-handed weapons.

It's a dynamic system, which keeps things always changing, and it works well with the game's overall approach and theme.

My weapons don't break that easely unless I'm doing a higher level zone that my weapons can't endure it.

Indeed, that's strange.
Imo, don't waste your time and just eat to replenish your health.
There're plenty of food.

He made the remark about his old body being tired which was from cutting the trees down. Weird thing is I already cut the trees down to make the bridge. lol

So yeah I'm gonna stop worrying about it and hope it lets me sleep there after leaving the Plateau.
