The controls seem overly complicated, and things like running out of arrows, having to make a potion to survive in the cold, having to remember where the hell I can cook food, having to figure out where your horse is are all incredibly time-consuming and frustrating.

Well for the last two items you can simply visit a stable and summon your horse. No need to return to where you left it in the wild. Those stables should all have cooking fires as well. I totally feel your pain in terms of arrows though. I really wish there were a way to craft them so I could at least stock up when I'm in the middle of nowhere.

How are you all approaching when to move on to different zones? After you feel like you've done everything? Or getting big parts of the map filled in then going back and exploring?

I feel like I want to be doing the latter but I'm doing the former because I want those damn orbs so I don't keep getting one shotted by stronger enemies.

I'm allowing my imagination to lead me wherever. If a mission or bit of story pushes me in a certain direction, I'll make that my main goal, but I'll make some side stops along the way, or explore around, or start a gauntlet of horse taming- whatever I get distracted by. I'm basically meandering.

Also, armor, food, and learning how to dodge and reflect attacks off your shield are your best friends. Also
Mipha's Grace. Finish the first dungeon, and you get an ability that revives you with extra hearts every time you lose them all. It takes a shitload of time to reload, but it's been a lifesaver.

I forgot I had 8 fairies stocked up and raring to go. I swore like a mother fucker after an enemy far to strong for my weapons and health downed me after a ten minute brawl only to be revived by a fairy. I managed to sneak out the win after that and got a fantastic shield and lance out of it from the enemy drop.

You can cook everywhere there's human communities. So villages and stables. You can teleport to them when you need to cook as there's always a shrine nearby. How do you even miss that?

Man... I will admit to missing a lot until about ~16-18 hrs in.

I missed a lot of "features" of the stables and towns. If you go into this game thinking purely "this is a 3D Zelda" it's probably super easy to miss things.

Guys, I found my way to some kind of shrouded wood and my torch broke. It's literally pitch black and I'm hearing weird noises. What do I do?

There are torches all around, pick up one and explore carefully. You can start a fire with fire arrows, bomb arrows, or a fire elemental weapon. If you are completely unable to make fire, you can get a sort of nightvision-type view by just walking around with magnesis/stasis/cryonis held at all times. Your visual range will be shit but it's better than nothing.

Just some anecdotal evidence of the greatness of this game. I have two friends that have never played a Zelda before playing it, one on a Wii U and one on a Switch and both of them think it is one of the best games they have ever played around 10 hours in. They mainly play multi player games so this is a big breakthrough.

I just played for a few hours while voice chatting with them and we were all off doing different things in the world and giving each other tips or funny reactions on how we were dying. I could definitely see a multi player version of this working really well. Not sure how others would take it, but I think it would be great in this open world format.

This happened yesterday. lol I went back to the horse at the after I finished my little mission and found this happened. I have to travel by foot at the time lol
I love this game though.

Somebody talk me out of spending $100 to import 3 amiibo that do nothing but give me cosmetics that look similar

you just paid $360+tax (or more if elsewhere) to play a game on a new system (I assume you are on switch)

Just wait until the amiibo are less.. inflated in price.

It's fine I know I won't actually buy them. I don't think amiibo are ever going to go down in price though, especially since Nintendo doesn't print enough to keep up with supply

I wish the share button let you share to imgur or something. I don't want to spam my general social media with Zelda shit.

...

really? you can't pick up the rare ones at certain launches 6 months later for reasonable prices?

crap I was really counting on that because even though I paid almost 400 to play this game this way I want all the damn DLC there is even if its plastic figures.. :(

Zelda usually kinda sucks as a game to show off to your friends due to it being a single-player affair, but the whole being able to come up with your solutions to puzzles made for some fun times with mine. They just kept giving me ideas on how to reach this one tower, or for the shrines, and the majority of them were viable. Or they would just point at an interesting place they'd like me to go, and we would always find something amusing lol

Is so easy to get lost in this game, I don't think I have done any main mision yet outside the starting area. This is by far the best open world game I played and maybe on my top 10 favourite games ever.

GAF, how do I catch this? Stealthing up to it and shooting an arrow at it both seemingly won't work.

Putting a link instead of image embed, it's pretty early game.

I shot an arrow at one and
rupees fell out
. Not sure if it died or what but I haven't seen it since.

On an unrelated note, dogs are so cute here. One started to play with its tail and eventually became a circle lol.

Yeah, reading how other people handled the
Zora's Domain
boss,
Waterblight Ganon
, is very interesting. Did anyone else
use stasis to send an ice block back into his face?
I thought that was a pretty cool way to tackle him.
3rd time around try to beat that boss I beat it so fast that
couldn't even throw ice because I hit the eyes, dropped ganon and let loose with my 25 atk energy sword

4 All are located near a shrine or tower for easier access.

How many great fairies are in this game?

There are 5.

Same, wish it was just standard DLC instead of this amiibo shit. I'll never have the outfits cause I'm not shelling out for amiibo

Been playing this game more or less every opportunity all weekend, and I'm really, really digging it. I don't remember the last time I was so enthralled just exploring a video game world. I only have a little over half the map revealed, and I feel like I've seen less than half of the "known" map. I've only gotten one
beast
and a few
memories
. Done dozens of shrines and side quests. This game is unbelievably huge for how well-crafted it is. I've only seen a few "fetch me X items" quests, and even those have had some clever setup beyond the typical MMO-style fare I'm used to. I'm losing track of all the times I've said "I'll just take a minute to see what that is" and ended up on a multi-hour excursion that ends with more quests, more pins, and more things I want to do.

The way the game actively surprises you for going out on your own is inspiring. Like, seeing Mt. Lanayru in the distance and being like "Huh, that looks like a cool landmark, I should try getting to the top."

And then I do and there's
a sort of Boss-like encounter with the huge Dragon spirit involving flying around killing the infestation on it, then getting a killer ice-spear.
Like, it just instills this sense of childlike wonder with the amount of incredible stuff is packs into the world.

I shot an arrow into one and got rupees. I haven't been able to catch or kill one.

You shoot it to get rupees. You don't actually catch it.

Thanks my dudes. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't mishandling it.'

Just started the game. It's absolutely deserving of all the praise.

Question: is their a max number for each category of inventory upgrade? Or is there a way to "respec" your inventory upgrade choices?

Yes, but don't worry, Nintendo has been really generous, you just have to find the
korok seeds.

Sorry if I wasn't clear, but I'm aware of the Korok Seeds. What I'm wondering is if there's a max number of times I can choose "Upgrade Weapons" with those Korok seeds. Alternatively, is there a way to reset which slots you chose to upgrade?

I think someone here have not find his own pace or bought the wrong type of game for himself.
Why do people here feel the need to brush off legitimate complaints. While the game is pretty awesome, it has flaws . Some of the item and micromanaging, controls and weapon durability arent terribly intuitive or practical and it's easy to see how these things could have a negative impact on someone's experience. To say he bought the wrong game is also silly because many people may have bought it based on their previous Zelda experiences and all of the systems he mentioned are non existent or vastly different in those games.

So, I hadn't really explored Lake Hylia region yet and was riding south toward the big bridge...Hylia bridge? WhenI see this big long..thing drifting through the night sky. I stop on the bridge and just sit on my horse watching this
huge thunder dragon
peacefully drift past the bridge then vanish into a hole in the sky as dawn breaks. Remembered my camera too late to snap a photo.

15 hours in and I'm about to say this game has the best exploration of any game I've played. Going into a beautiful forest just to check what it has, then find a shrine hidden at the top of the cliff is just my dream game. And it doesn't stop there because the reward is more gameplay in the form of great puzzles.

I watch it slowly disappear into the hole in the sky as well. It sort of looked like a portal to me.

I'm such an idiot. I'm only at the part where the old man wants me to go to the few other shrines, well I guess I didn't listen to him so instead of looking for the shrines, I set a marker on the tall spires. I spend a good hour trying to get to one before I realized they are all outside the wall and I'm doing the wrong thing :(

I love how the game will have characters talk about a far off place they've heard of in legends that people have searched for and you can just...go there. Find that place. See who's discovered it.

My best advice right now as far as I am is if you're selling special ores, keep your diamonds. They have a specific purpose for
fixing the unique strong trident
and they're rare as is.

I love how you can look off miles into the distance at a peak, and just go there.

had the craziest experience earlier. A bokoblin was standing next to a Moblin and I was worried about a big fight. Then, he got pissed off at the Moblin, picked him up and tossed him over a cliff.

LOL

After I believe almost an hour, I finally solved the great
maze shrine (eastern sea)
. I'm very happy.
This game is great, but I do struggle with the controls and the camera sometimes.

The camera? I've found it excellent so far. I changed the sensibility from the beginning and hasn't given me any trouble.

The controls are a touch stiff, I feel (playing on Wii U pro pad). It's especially hard to get used to Link stopping dead after each side hop.
