Here's a story to share! So in Hateno Village, decided to run down to the
beach to do the side quest about sheep. Finished it, but also noticed two shrines off in the distance, one in the ocean and another on a cliff. Tried and failed to swim to the ocean one, didn't have a Moron Leaf for the raft. So, I gave up and climbed the cliff. Turns out its a combat shrine that definitely had me on the ropes. Beat it and got a badass upgraded ax! Didn't even know you could upgrade weapons yet.

Then I realize "Hey, I can probably fly to the ocean one..." So I do. And its a harder version of the one I just did! I had to use my amiibo to get another weapon because I just couldn't get through on what I had but I didn't want to leave. Finally beat it, and the weapons are far and away the highest attack I've gotten. All because I wanted to save some sheep.

I had the exact same experience. As soon as I saw the Shrine in the ocean I was like "oh shit I bet I can glide to it from up there (where the other shrine is)."

Needless to say, I beat the first one but the second one fucked me up proper.

So I'm about 7 or 8 hours in and I was honestly not understanding the reviews when I was on the Great Plateau but once I left it, holy shit. I explored and made my way to Kakariko and now I've done all the quests/shrines I could
find up until this point. I think I'm going to head north to try and find Korok village so I can spend all the Korok seeds I have.

This game reminds me so much of the feelings I had when I was playing vanilla WoW for the first time.

Hadn't paid attention to much of the pre-release footage, so I was really surprised when I found out Kakarico Village turned out to be as big as it is. Here, I thought I was gonna be running around a vast open world, but all I want to do is hang out there and do little side quests to help people out. It's so peaceful and cute!

But adventure calls.

Right now my only real complaint is the lack of variety for enemies. It's really just Bokoblins and Skeletons, with a couple of Keese occasionally. Assuming I'm roughly following the main story quests, about how long does it take to fight different kinds of enemies?

So far, I think my favourite way of killing enemies is putting a bomb near a ledge, making enemies walk to me and then blast them off cliffs. If that fails, using a Korok Leaf is also hilarious.

You'll see more. I'm still fairly and have seen a fair amount of different enemies.

Madness I tells ya! I can't imagine going through the very northwest of Hyrule's mighty snowy cliffaces without any boosts. I practically glided across half a region when I was done.
But props to you.
Stamina food. It's quite easy actually, less annoying than relying on food at the expense of hearts as it is always consistent.

I maxed my stamina last night and have yet to upgrade my health. Being able to sprint everywhere like a madman is wonderful.

Soon. Also make sure you upgrade the shekiah slate asap. The upgraded sensor is a god send.

There should be a leaf and a raft on that island you can use to go to evertide island to continue your journey! Dont worry about stocking up either all you need is to get there.

Stamina food makes sense, funny how this works as another example of varying ways players can accomplish the same thing.

Going back to the ever recurring discussion point of Zelda's ho-hum english voiceover, it's jarring to me in that two particular flashback scenes where she's revealing more of her actual personality I'd say that the voice actress actually nails it, it's bizarrely inconsistent.

Is that the big island in the distance? I thought about it but figured it was too far out since it wasn't filled on my map.

In my exploring I haven't found an area yet that I couldn't get to with just the base amount of stamina and a bit of the old WoW climbing. Also rock climbing pants but I only got those recently.

Ha, couldn't disagree more. I don't want to mess with cooking so my first 5 upgrades were all stamina. Didn't even get a heart container until I found the master sword and realised I'd need some. For the first 8 hours I had three hearts. After the master sword I made maxing my stamina a priority and am glad I did. The worst experience in the game is running out of stamina just before the edge of a big cliff, whereas being able to easily bound up medium cliffs is awesome.

Different strokes.

Eh. The bird dude isn't half bad. But the Zora and Zelda are horrible.

The worst part is that I've done so many of the photos and the supposed cutscenes and for a game that added voice acting the characters are so 1 dimensional. Zelda has her depth you get from implication but the story is so fucking simplistic. Even other open world games added more of a campaign than this

I feel like if you buy the ancient weapons you should be able to come back and get them for free if they break. I think that would be a nice compromise between game systems. As they are, who'd spend money on that?

I hope that's the case but I'm not dropping 1000 rupees to test that theory lol.

Does this view exist in the final version?

Playing the game now, and in handheld mode, I encountered plenty of scenes that look as dense, and as good as this. Or even better. It's truly amazing.

I'm so many hours in the game and I still don't love the weapon breaking mechanic. If given the option to turn it off or change it I'd do it in a heart beat. The thing is that yeah the flow of regular combat is destined designed with it, but it could have been redesigned to where you don't need to constantly be switching weapons. I think their goal to make the game where using different weapons styles is commendable. But you could have at least added a proper repair mechanic for unique weapons. Or make them unbreakable.

yea the game is design around the player's hesitance to go in guns(blades) blazing every time, so you just have to be smart. Also throwing weakened weapons to enemy's face then grabbing their weapon is a technique worth learning.

The only real problem I have is not being able to quickly swap out weapons when acquiring a weapon from chest.

I knew about the requirement beforehand and I still kind of regret going all out on hearts initially. 1-2 stamina upgrades are pretty darn good.

Changing armor takes like 5 seconds dawg.

Do what I do.

- main armor set is my hood plus Knight chest and boots. Turned it white to look like Assassins Creed. I use this 80% of the time for combat unless there's a temperature issue.

- when I need to do stealth I switch to the stealth armor. Or if I really want to rush through enemies too as you footsteps are lighter.

- if I'm climbing around and exploring I put on whatever part of the climbing gear I can do at the moment (if temperature is a factor)

I'm constantly switching armors. You could in theory just make potions that give you more stamina or more movement speed if you really don't want to have to switch armor
Ah, makes sense. Thanks.

The idea of using a consumable on a consumable stat sounds terrible to me. I can live with only three hearts because, if I play well enough, health isn't even an issue. I can play indefinitely without dying if I avoid combat or just perform well in fights. But you can't climb or run indefinitely. You need stamina for that. It's so annoying to not be able to swim across a river, or paraglide to a ledge, or reach the top of a rockface.

I put my first four upgrades into Stamina. Wouldn't do it any other way. Your experiences is fundamentally different with higher stamina, but your experience is potentially unchanged with more hearts.

My jaw literally dropped a moment ago when I discovered the resting place of something straight of a studio ghibli movie. AND YOU CAN MOUNT IT.

I was unsuccessful sneaking up on it, but I will return.

Yep. Standard stamina is enough for everything I've come across so far.

I've never run out of stamina at the edge of a cliff top. Preparation makes that pretty much impossible. Everything I've come across so far has easily accessible areas to rest and regain stamina.

It's a last resort thing. I've never once thought "I need more stamina" the base amount is fine for getting everywhere if you're smart about it.

Found this guy, my response.....

Found that guy and I was like "lol big dumb guy I'll just stand back and snipe you" and then he pulled out his Bow and shot artillery lightning at me that struck me from behind a rock and I was like "welp" still stole all his rupees tho

I hope they let us take video clips sooner rather then later. So many things I'd like to share but are able to because of not having any ability to capture footage.

How do you get the sheikah slate to
scan for shrines after you upgrade it to the sheikah slate +? I feel so stupid, I can't figure out how to turn off scanning for the item you tell it to scan for.

Go back to the map and select the option you would normally use to turn the slate off and on. I think it's Y. There should be options
there for you to switch between scanning for items and shrines.

Ah thanks, I never turn off the slate so I didn't even think about trying that.

The scary part is... that is the weakest of their kind.

By far the nastiest things in this game that I know of. Worth learning how to hunt.
Unless their move sets change they aren't too bad. They're actually the creature I've consistently been able to slow Mo dodge and flurry with a black flip. So just bring strong weapons and don't let them take out their bow.

DUCKROLL - 1

MOLDUGA - 0

O M F G

THIS GAME.

The entire Gerudo area has been FUCKING AWESOME.

The 7 Heroines puzzle AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH.

They're not that bad since it's very easy to get them into a loop where they perform an incredibly easy to dodge combo.

Played 35 hours and havnt done any dungeons. This game is gonna take me 150 hours at this pace and I'm loving it. The world is so well designed it makes you want to explore, can't believe I'm playing this on a 6 inch tablet.

When I saw the trailer that implied a fair amount of story I immediately recalled the Skyward Sword and even Twilight Princess trailers that did the same and figured "you ain't tricking me again Nintendo".
I was right to think that way, though I actually like what they've done here, set up an incredibly simple scenario that works perfectly with the game structure, any plot of sorts mostly comes from flashbacks you choose to discover yourself.
I consider it a nice compromise between "I don't need story in my Zelda, just drop me in the world" and "why am I doing any of this, what's my motivation".

Of course actual story beats are indeed plain as all hell but well, that's Zelda for you.

So, should I not be selling all my gems and hoard them for later?

You find enough that you're safe to sell some of them, if you're early on and hurting for money it's not a problem to sell what you have cause you'll find plenty more by the time you're able to use them.

Except for the more rare variety obviously, but by the time you start finding those you you'll have an idea of what you need to save and what you can sell

I've said it once and I'll say it again, if you have to not sell one of the gems early on don't sell your diamonds. They have a very specific use. If you're going to sell diamonds for the money, then don't sell your light stones.

It does, they get nastier.
Oh shit balls. I'm actually excited then, the first one was such a chump. I mean yeah if he hit me lord knows it fucked me up, but it wasn't too bad

If you love exploring at least do the
Rito
Dungeon.

I have got about 6 hours in and 8 total shrines. Was really struggling with these enemies in the plateau and realized I could use magnesis to slam a metal object into them and knock them off the ledge. Woohoo goooood. Going to get to five hearts and get a stamina boost after that.

It should also be noted there is almost always a work around to getting a rare gem in the game too.

Yes! I think thats actually the only way to reach it. Its pretty far south but you need that boat to get to it.
