Stamina medicine, unless you chose to get some extra stamina from the Shrines. Your standard stamina bar isn't nearly enough to tame those otherwise.

I tamed a full-colored black horse right after the plateau with normal stamina. Her name is Bitch, because she's my bitch.

Then I got a full-colored blue horse right after that.

Is there a Goddess Statue at
Zora's Domain
? Want to finish up some stuff there and I've got 4 spirit orbs.
Not that I've seen. But like every town there's a shrine nearby you can unlock and use as a fast travel point so just go to a town with one and come back

Edit: Welp nvm

The key to embracing the weapon system in this game is to stop getting attached to your basic-ass claymores and clubs and broadswords and spears. The game doesn't want you to grow attached to your enemy weapon pick-ups. They're a dime a dozen. Let it go, like Elsa. The only weapon you should care deeply about is the Master Sword.

I found a giant flame sword which generated enough heat for me to make it up Mt Lanayru. It was my companion and looks awesome. It is my friend and he shall not be damaged.

Agreed, once I started thinking like this it made everything a lot more fun.

I have that sword and I didn't even think about this. I know what I'm doing when I get home from work.

This game. This fucking game. I can't remember the last time a game sucked me in like this, it's just endlessly engaging and so well balanced. And beautiful too; technical limitations aside the world feels so real and alive.

I love that I can approach an area/boss and be completely overwhelmed, die repeatedly and have to rethink my approach entirely. My first attempt at
waterblight ganon
was a total disaster. I died repeatedly. Went away to do some more exploring etc, thinking about how to approach it all the while. Came back to it and
armed to the teeth with arrows, a much stronger bow, couple of attack boost elixirs, food, and an extra heart, wiped him out without much trouble.
.

What's strange to me is that I normally want to rush through and complete a story in most games. Here, not at all. I can see this taking me over a month to finish. I don't want it to end.

Luckily there seem to be loads of shrines. Best thing about those so far is, I have no idea if I was supposed to solve them a certain way, but hell, it worked so who cares?. For example (probably has been mentioned), there is a shrine where
you have to guide the boulder through a maze using tilt. After a couple of failed attempts, I decided to flip the controller upside down, which naturally turned the entire maze upside down. And suddenly it's significantly easier and quicker.

In terms of weapon durability, this doesn't seem to be an issue for me; once you learn to accept that weapons are not for keeping, you really have no trouble. Every enemy you kill = new weapon so it's not remotely an issue. You should be ending up with too many weapons, at which point you should be learning what is worth even picking up at all.

I'm not a fan of fast travelling a lot, I often like to do everything I can in an area before teleporting out. Those loading screens may be short but they're annoying.

In front of the steps to
the throne room.

Thanks!

Holy shit, the trek to the [first dungeon location spoilers]
Zora's domain
was so cool. You cover so much ground and really feel like you're on some LOTR adventure to get to your destination. Finding camp sites along the way to cook and places under cover where you can start fire. I thought I would try out the dungeon last night but just getting to the town was an adventure in itself and I called it a night. I want to go home and play so bad.

Yeah, I did that last night, and it was awesome. Really pushes you to use your survival skills you built up till that point.

LMFAOOOOOOOOOO. I saw a black colored horse as well by that Dueling Peak. Took me two tries after I realized I should tap L repeatedly. I named it Onyx.

What about the unique

weapons the game clearly wants you to also care about because they give you a method to
remake them
.

I understand that as a whole you don't want people to ignore the mechanic, but if folks are going above and beyond the call of duty they should be rewarded and give us unbreakable versions.

It's a bit ridiculous. But yeah I don't get too attached to my regular weapons, not even the elemental ones.

Just started my 13gb download... should be done in 2 and a half hours :( I've used a USB memory stick, a decent one, I know I shouldn't but I don't have a HDD!

This is not making the wait easier...

1. Save everything you find, even if it doesn't appear to have a use. Even if it feels like you are hoarding menial things, like monster parts, keep them until you know for sure what they do. This might be a long wait, but you will be happy to have not sold off something you wish you had found.

2. Don't let your stamina deplete. Let it ALMOST deplete and then let up. It will begin recharging and you'll be able to use more in short bursts. This is especially useful when running because, if you deplete your stamina, you have to wait for it to completely refill to use it again.

3. Don't try to save your weapons. Just use whatever is available to you at all times. Everything breaks and everything is disposable. Do not try to hold on to that "good sword" until you absolutely need it. A little later in the game you might decide to hold on to certain weapon types for certain enemies, but generally, just have at it.

4. When a weapon is almost broken, throw it at an enemy.

5. Be prepared to die. The auto-save is forgiving, but you will find yourself being killed very easily. You will learn quickly that most combat encounters are optional and it may be advantageous to run away. This has always been the case in the Zelda overworld, but it is particularly salient in BotW.

6. If you see a high peak or platform, climb to it. You will find so many things that way. Always seek the highest point.

7. You don't have to complete shrines to make them a fast-travel point, just activate them. That said, you might as well complete them. They are short and productive.

8. Don't dump five ingredients into a cooking pot and make super-powerful healing food when you only have three or four hearts. It is much better to combine two ingredients, or roast single ingredients on a fire, because they heal more efficiently relative to the actual health you have.

These are just some things that popped into my head.

With the chests, three of them spawn on the plateau, but you have to locate them like any others.

Thanks for this! I read your post 3 times to make sure the advice sticks. Lol..

Had to run errands. So if I bought the season pass I won't see it download? It'll know and add the extra content automatically?

Let me tell you about my horse.

I've had him since I could even find horses. The moment I saw his beautiful bluish green coat and white mane, I had to befriend him. He was a solid colored, wild horse, with four stamina. I named him Horse.

I just tried to activate the central tower so I could see the map and get a memory more easily. Swarming with fucking you-know-what's, but I made it in with Horse unscathed. I scaled the tower easily while avoiding sniper fire with my plentiful stamina, looked out on Hyrule Castle, and glided back down onto Horse, ready to make an escape.

Horse became snagged on a rock, with mere seconds before a laser destroyed us both. We attempted to horsey dance our way to safety, and it seemed as though we would triumph and take cover behind a wall and avoid the blast.

But we were not fast enough.

Horse perished in the explosion, and I clung to life with a mere quarter of a heart. I am legit shook. For some reason I never really thought about horses dying since Horse had taken every bit of damage he'd received like a champ and was the toughest of all the horses I've ever known. I literally stood over his body and wept real tears from my actual eyes (I am not lying) while the bastard who took him from me prepared another beam.

I had to glide to safety on the updraft from the flames caused by the explosion, but as soon as I had a moment to breathe, I just put the console down (playing in handheld mode at the moment) and stared out toward the scene from the melencholy safety of a large tree. The music was soft and sad, and it was sunset.

I immediately came to GAF to recount this tale, so that Horse might be remembered as the brave steed he was. He was faithful, strong, and loved eating apples from my hand as we watched the sunset together. He valiantly shared my adventure with me, and I don't know how soon I'll be able to get a new horse because I am so, completely, utterly devastated right now.

Have a peaceful rest, Horse.

I know I can just load an old save but that feels like cheating.

I unfortunately have to drop the game for a month or two since I'll be focusing on moving. In my 30 hours with the game I beat 3 temples, 30 shrines and climbed all but 2 towers.
What a pleasant experience I wish I could beat the game, but I will have to wait.

Some other notes:
-Having two full stamina bars is awesome and basically allows you to climb anything you want and sail as far as you want.
-Weapon durability later in the game isnt much of an issue. I cab defeat 4 or 5 tough guys with a decent elemental weapon or otherwise. I find switching weapons also does a good job of extending the life of a bunch of swords you like.
-If I were to rank dungeons I've done so far:
Naboris>Ruto>Midos
All enjoyable experiences and the bosses are great!

Holy hell that fight with the (enemy spoilers)
Lynel
was intense as hell. Got a Dark Souls lite vibe from it.

Such a great Zelda game, my one complaint is I still get the sprint and jump button confused. I even changed the settings a couple times and still get screwed up.

This game is incredible. So many little details that make it feel like they went above and beyond when developing it.

The audio is especially nice on my 5.1 system, with great surround sound and mixing. I love the subtle piano when you're running through a big open field, only to transition into a theme when you reach a settlement. So good.

Would you say it's...THE GREATEST GAME OF ALL TIME? Or top three? Top five? Top ten?

Where can you remake those weapons?

This reminds me of when I was able to finally ride a deer for the first time and then an electric Keese shocked him to death almost immediately.

I was so sad.
I felt a lot better after I ate him though.

Heh, I remember reading that post yesterday. Really feels like anything can happen in this game.

Just took a lunch break and played for 30 minutes. I love how this game can be played in small chunks and you can still feel like you accomplished something. I defeated huge moblin camp and found a new shrine that is ready to be explored, all while zoning out and taking my mind away from work. I freel refreshed and ready to work (browse the BotW forum on GAF).

I can't place it officially until a few months have passed after I've stopped playing (and I've only put 15-20 hours in so far) but it's easily the best game I've played since Divinity: Original Sin.

Is there a method to con an enemy or do you just kinda need to know their relative strengths? Just asking because one robot inside a shrine was one hitting me and it looked like I'd need 3 or 4 swords to kill it with how fast they break... would have been nice to see a skull icon on his head or something.

How are you all handling the recall memory hunt? I went from focusing on it, to just trying to run into it on a lark, to focusing on it again. After about 12 hours or so, I've only discovered one recall spot (not counting the initial one). I look at that one forest picture and think to myself there's no way I'm ever going to find it. Not enough specificity in the pic.

I hope this never happens to me. T_T Horse.

If it says "major test of strength" when you enter you'll likely end game weapons for those because on moderate tests I can do it just fine with some mid/high tier weapons.

As to seeing health I think the
champions tunic you get via the story early on
let's you see it

Where are the electric keese at? I'm trying to get their wings to enhance my Climbing set, and now that I need them I can't find them and dont rememer where they were.

I've beaten two major tests so far. First one I just used my ice arrows to freeze it then jump attacked them with my best weapon, then at the end when it starts firing lasers I bombarded it with bomb arrows. Not too bad.

There's an NPC that helps you.

That's a shame.

I've come to terms with items breaking, but that kinda sucks knowing something might be gone forever if the chest doesn't respawn. :(

I'm pretty sure this isn't true for anything in the game as its bound to show up somewhere or in someone's shop or in someone's hands sooner or later.

Desert.

Also, for the folks who have completed most or all of the dungeons, would you recommend doing any of them in particular first or does it really not matter at all?

I hope so! :)

I've done two of them and I recommend to do those two in the order I did
Zora and then Rito
because the latter you'll likely have to spend a lot of money on gear to not have to constantly drink/eat shit to help with the weather

The other two I feel you'll likely need clothing too just by thinking about their locations

Has anyone else encountered a beam of light shining down from the sky at night? I noticed it too late and it had disappeared with the sunrise by the time I got there, waited until the following evening and it didn't appear :(

I have only rode a horse minimally in my 12 hours, just not feeling it, prefer to walk. Plus not too keen on horseback combat if i'm honest :/

Question about attaining open world collectibles-

So, I've figured out most of the challenges you come across on my own (circle of stones, stones in water, etc). However, I still haven't figure out what to do with circles of lily pads/flowers in water. Is this something that gets revealed later through playing the game? Or are all these challenges just left up to the player to figure out? If it's not explained later, can someone give me a hint as to what to do with the lily pad in water puzzles?
