Another point in favor of everything breaking is the fact that I don't feel nearly as annoyed when I just say "fuck it" because I can't figure out a shrine puzzle because whatever you are missing out on probably will break anyways.

So I just got the main quest
Captured Memories, and found the first spot and returned to Impa.
Is there another Main Quest that should be stemming from that or should I just continue to find the other locations from
Captured Memories
or start heading toward the other

There's a lot of issues currently with the Switch that make for a weird early adopter experience, but I'll talk about the good so far.

I love love love the hardware. Seamlessly going from docked to handheld mode is a game-changer and the screen itself is beautiful. The Joycons are much more comfortable than you'd first assume and playing with the Joycons separated (one in each hand) is now my most preferred control scheme of any console.

The UI is clean and snappy. The parental control app is extremely well designed, snappy as well, and a breeze to set up (indicated a future of phone Apps that are actually useful and nice to use).

IF Nintendo plays it's hand right this console is going to get a hell of a lot of use out of me. As of right now it's getting near CONSTANT use because of Zelda.

I say if you don't have a Wii U and want to play Zelda then getting a Switch is a no brainer. *shrug* You should ask in the Hardware Launch thread if you want more in depth impressions though.

Thank you! I appreciate it! I never bought a WII U and I regret it because there are a good amount of exclusives I would love to play/have. I simply have to play Zelda and I want a Nintendo console again (besides my 3DS). I have a friend who ordered an extra just in case, so I'm buying it from him tonight and we're just gonna play Zelda the rest of the evening. Can't wait!

Is there a way that I can tell if I've completed it or not, either from the map or at the shrine?

No idea if the map shows it (since I complete them immediately) but the Shrine itself has an orange Sheikah eye if you didn't complete it yet.

I recently invested in Zelda: BOTW. Holy ****! HOLY ****! The critics were right! This game is TOO GOOD! Too invested RN! When the critics said the world was polished in high quality, they were ****ing right! I can't wait to play more soon!

I need to find ONE more cuckoo in Kakariko Village and I can't for the life of me find it! Sheikah sensor isn't much help either.

There's one beyond the village on your way to the shrine. That's the one that gave me trouble. There's also one on the roof of the building below that cliff that's also easy to miss!

I still need to find me a new shield. They're all about to break. I really wish there was a basic gear store somewhere in the game. Like buying the Traveler's and Soldier's stuff.

Northern part of the map spoiler:
I found and reactivated the research lab which lets me make Ancient weapons. Is an Ancient Shield worth it or does it break too easily?

Where do I get the sledge hammer? I had one, but forget where I got it. Now its broken and I cant smash rocks to get ore.

In Hateno, talk to the people that are tearing down that house right at the village entry. They will stop work after a certain dialog option giving you 2 sledge hammers. (and they respawn afaik)

It would be pretty fucked if it turned out you needed to save all of them given I've run into several characters who practically demanded I sell gems.

That said, money is so easy to come by in this game its never been a real issue, even considering I buy out Beedle's arrow supply every time I see him and do the same for the other special arrows when I (much less commonly) come across them. The only thing I can even see being a financial drain so far is the
Fairy Fountains (I've found 2 but the second was 5 times the first) and the house.[
But even then, if I wanted to grind for money, I probably could figure out how to do it by just going to higher level areas and demolishing the bigger Moblins with their own weapons.
Even if you need them for something useful later on I don't think it'll be anything major, but obviously don't take my word for it. The games crafting system is non existent outside of cooking, you can't make or fix weapons, and armor so far I've seen uses monster parts.

Item description makes it seem you can use them for something though, I wish I knew what

You have unlimited bombs.

Is there no way to store extra armor somewhere else? I kind of want ti all, but I have such limited space

I don't think your inventory is limited in terms of armor; just bows, melee weapons and shields...but I guess I could be wrong. It doesn't seem like there are really that many sets of armor in the game compared to weapons.

Let me tell you about my horse.

I've had him since I could even find horses. The moment I saw his beautiful bluish green coat and white mane, I had to befriend him. He was a solid colored, wild horse, with four stamina. I named him Horse.

I just tried to activate the central tower so I could see the map and get a memory more easily. Swarming with fucking you-know-what's, but I made it in with Horse unscathed. I scaled the tower easily while avoiding sniper fire with my plentiful stamina, looked out on Hyrule Castle, and glided back down onto Horse, ready to make an escape.

Horse became snagged on a rock, with mere seconds before a laser destroyed us both. We attempted to horsey dance our way to safety, and it seemed as though we would triumph and take cover behind a wall and avoid the blast.

But we were not fast enough.

Horse perished in the explosion, and I clung to life with a mere quarter of a heart. I am legit shook. For some reason I never really thought about horses dying since Horse had taken every bit of damage he'd received like a champ and was the toughest of all the horses I've ever known. I literally stood over his body and wept real tears from my actual eyes (I am not lying) while the bastard who took him from me prepared another beam.

I had to glide to safety on the updraft from the flames caused by the explosion, but as soon as I had a moment to breathe, I just put the console down (playing in handheld mode at the moment) and stared out toward the scene from the melencholy safety of a large tree. The music was soft and sad, and it was sunset.

I immediately came to GAF to recount this tale, so that Horse might be remembered as the brave steed he was. He was faithful, strong, and loved eating apples from my hand as we watched the sunset together. He valiantly shared my adventure with me, and I don't know how soon I'll be able to get a new horse because I am so, completely, utterly devastated right now.

Have a peaceful rest, Horse.

I know I can just load an old save but that feels like cheating.

Cross the lake hylia, search around the south east of that area.
Make sure to bring money.

3. Don't try to save your weapons. Just use whatever is available to you at all times. Everything breaks and everything is disposable. Do not try to hold on to that "good sword" until you absolutely need it. A little later in the game you might decide to hold on to certain weapon types for certain enemies, but generally, just have at it.

I'd like to edit your comment to say: Hold on to ONE powerful weapon at all times.

Early on I found a weapon of 30 something strength when all mine were 10s or 20s. Not sure where, I think it was a trial. I kept that, and it came in CLUTCH when I walked into the wrong neighborhood, allowing me to flee.

Currently have a bunch of 30-something weapons and holding onto a royal claymore, 52 I think. Already use it once to NOPE out of a situation

I don't want to stay in the thread long - too scared of spoilers - but I just want to go on record that this is the most enjoyable game I've played in years.

I like to call it "Zelda Unchained".

It's so, so nice to play a Zelda game that doesn't feel constrained. Every moment of the game resonates with my best Zelda experiences from the past, but amplified. And the new stuff is so cool! Just yesterday, I got
struck by lightning during a fierce thunderstorm. I belatedly realized it was because I had a big metal sword on my back.
That's hilarious.

This is turning out to be everything I've wanted Zelda to be for 30 years. And, after 3 solid days of playing, I've barely cracked into the game.

I've played a lot of open world games in my time - often looking for that "Zelda magic" on a larger scale - and this is far and away the best one I've played. Sandbox games all too often feel very much "cookie cutter", it comes with the territory to some degree. But this one, aside from a bunch of identical trees and stuff, doesn't. Everything feels so...smooth and natural. Nothing important feels like it's been cloned and scattered at random. I'm at a loss to describe it without taking shots at other games, and that's not right. But I'm so taken in by the world.

My 2 cents. GOAT contender already, and I have a long way to go.

Pretty much exactly how I feel about the game. The game is just on a whole other level. I haven't gotten immersed in a game world in a really long time.

So, the
Fireblight Ganon
was easy as shit compared to
Thunderblight Ganon
. Maybe I should have come to that area first. :S

Only one guardian left! But I'll do some sidequesting/exploring first.

Another point in favor of everything breaking is the fact that I don't feel nearly as annoyed when I just say "fuck it" because I can't figure out a shrine puzzle because whatever you are missing out on probably will break anyways.

I guess I could see this as a positive, sure. I'm not as obsessed with getting every chest and treasure as I usually am with video games, since it's most likely either an alright weapon that'll break anyway or it's a material which I can and will get elsewhere too.

I live the durability mechanic because it means your constantly equipping gear that's aesthetically appropriate for your region. I feel like a wanderer whose appearance tells a tale of my recent deeds, and that wouldn't be the case if I could just hold on to that one good sword I got days ago. Each play session tells it's own story via the gear I've acquired and broken along the way, and Link always looks different from the time I boot up my Switch to the time I turn it off.

I got those 2. Makes me feel even dumber that I can't find 1 that shouldn't be that difficult.

Few Shrines have armor though. You never know when one will be new armor lol

Man those trials on the southeast edge of the map don't fuck around.
The major test of strength combat trial on the tiny secluded island was a monster with that robot's health and attack power. Actually had to leave that trial and come back later when I had found an electric broadsword, electric spear and a ton of shock arrows and put the fear of Zeus in that robot like I was god damn Vegeta.

Glad I did the
flying beast
dungeon first because the the power you get makes climbing towers a cakewalk. Its literally game breaking because the game expects you to clear out enemies/corruption around some towers and you can just bypass everything on the way to the top.

What do you even get for finding the chickens?

If its like every other quest, like 20 rupees, but that's not the point!

Few Shrines have armor though. You never know when one will be new armor lol

I have yet to find a shrine that had armor that was in a chest that's reasonably miss-able - its usually like a box right in front of the mummy.

Holy Shit! I was not prepared for the
Zora
village! Finally reaching it after probably an hour of climbing and fighting and then standing there in this ENORMOUS architecture - I was in complete awe!
The atmosphere of this game is really something else - I'm heading to the dungeon now. Will be the first for me after probably about 20 hours of gameplay.

I just bomb ore deposits. Never occurred to me to use a weapon.

Oh shit, I didnt think of bombs! ThNk you! (And thanks to the rest who responded, but this seems simplest)

This is actually a really cool way of looking at it. I do like how Link is constantly changing looks depending on where I'm at and what I'm doing.

My Switch finally arrived after DPD fucked up release delivery. I finished the magnet trial a couple of hours ago, was the bonus chest in there supposed to be just picked up with the magnet? I climbed up the wall and made a sort of diving board by holding down the long pieces of metal with the blocks.

The only rewards for that quest come after the first memory, then after you find them all. Locations are all over the world map, there's an NPC that can be found at many of the game's stables that can give you hints.

Breath in deeply through your nose for 4 seconds, hold it for seven, breath out through your mouth for 8 second. Do this 2 or 3 times and you should be more relaxed.

Just clear a Bokoblin camp. Shields every where. Use shields until they break. Not much of a point in using nearly-broken gear around.
