Lots of interesting info in the strategy guide

For instance, did you know that you always critically cook during the blood moon? (Or even that there is a concept of critical cooking which is a % chance of making better food)

Also, there is level scaling in the game. The game keeps track of a kill counter for each monster species. After certain milestones, additional color variants of that species will start to spawn.

does it say how many treasure chests are in kao maka shrine?

About the
Fairy Fountain
near Kakariko Village...

She said she has a little power to boost my clothes. My question is, if use it now, do I lose that ability to upgrade other gear later? Not really a fan of any of my clothes right now and don't want to waste that power.

Visit as many times as you want, it's not a one-time thing.

What that means is
she can only upgrade each piece of gear once,

I killed three wolves with one arrow. Like a boss!

Also has anyone gone out to
Tingle Island? I was sad not to find Tingle. Unless I just didn't look hard enough.

hehe ^^

Yeah this puzzle annoyed me so then I just cheesed it by flinging the ball into the air and hoping it felled on the platform. The angle on the "proper way" was a little hard for me to tell with the camera angle.

QUESTION: What is the deal with avoiding lightning? I was targeted with my weapons equipped. I proceeded to unequip my weapons and shield and still got blown to smithereens. I haven't had a second moment to try test it out so I'm curious what the deal is with the lightning.

You can make guardians go crazy and make them spam their lazor beams if you hit them with a heavy weapon at their backside, as if they are sort of malfunctioning because they will littarly spam their beam like crazy. If you keep doing this fast enough you can spam your attacks until they die because they stay in that state till they die.

I guess it makes sense since i am hitting them with a freaking sledgehammer lol.

Did you unequip metal armor then?

When you get all the chests in a shrine, a chest icon appears next to it's name in the world map.

Anyways, if you wanna know the location of a missing chest:

1) Take a picture of any treasure chest so it gets added to the compendium.
2) Equip it to the sonar detector.
3) Go inside a Shrine.
4) Profit.

Dude, your blowing my mind.

Did you unequip your armor (if that was metal)? Don't forget the Bow also counts.

So I finally started to explore a bit outside the Grand Plateau. It seems like that old IGN "What Zelda can learn from Skyrim" article was right in the end.

In terms of the world structure and maybe a bit of the quest structure BOTW feels like it learned from Bethesda games. What's good about that though is BOTW seems to have learned things from Skyrim that other games missed when they tried to copy Skyrim or "get the Skyrim audience." Most other games borrowed superficial aspects like having a ton of quests, collectibles, and waypoints all over the place. Nintendo borrowed the part of Skyrim that actually mattered -- the non-linear structure that sprawls out in all directions.

Right now, admittedly extremely early in, I feel like BOTW took only the aspects of Skyrim, Minecraft, and Far Cry 2 that were applicable to a Zelda game.

The combat is just not awesome. Its really the only "flaw" I can find with the game.
It's more than awesome, and that's thanks to weapons durability. It's not only about how good you are at parrying or dodging, it's also about how good you are in managing your weapon and using the most effective one for a certain enemy. How you approach the fight itself also has a weight.

Nah. It learned from Zelda 1, and you'll probably drop the Skyrim comparisons when you start seeing the gameplay options for traversal, the environmental puzzles and insane level design/verticality of pretty much every area. The world is dense and challenges you in many different ways, going from A to B is pretty much never about traversing an empty area that only has the purpose to connects two points like in other open world games.

RE: Spoiler
I went out there too, no Tingle, but I did find a shrine. Loved the sequence of going from island to island over bridges avoiding the guardians. I believe the names of places on the map are just callbacks to old Zelda games and characters

Question about an armour set:

Is there leg armour for the Zora set?

You get it from a sidequest in
Zora's Domain.

Bit of an ancient parts farm beyond Dueling Peaks Stable around the Ash Swamp and entrance to Fort Hateno where there is a crap ton of inactive guardians that gives you a ancient part of piece (probably shouldn't expect cores through).

Marshes, jungles, arctic tundra, volcanic, dense, foggy forest. It has everything
Fantastic, I didn't expect that.

I'm at the point (early) where I either find the
divine beasts
or
take pictures to regain memories
. Feels odd to go so close to the castle and I'm not sure I'm ready to do the first, so I don't know which one I should be doing first.

You can do them in any order (Or just try and take on the castle now). That's the beauty of this game.

Holy shit Lynel is fucking DESTROYING me. I assume this is impossible with 4 hearts because I just can't do shit to him. I can't seem to dodge his attacks and one shot basically kills me so there is no room for error.

I guess I just have to run from him and collect arrows and pray.

Yup, I am back for yet another noob question.

How in the hell do you create a campfire? I dropped firewood and flint on the ground and then I hit flint with a metal sword but nothing happened. The only thing I can think of is the rain is preventing me. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

It's easy, just don't make any mistakes. :p

I beat one with 4 hearts.

The rain stops you from making fire. You either have to wait until it stops or find some shelter to make it.

You need to do it under shelter if it's raining

I haven't played the game but I'm pretty sure you can't start a fire while it's raining.

Drop them on the ground near other, strike the flint, then you have fire. Probably could replicate it with a fire rod or maybe even a fire arrow.

Can anyone tell me if there's any significance to the circles of rocks?
I tried using bombs as decades of Zelda has conditioned me to, and even used them as a landing zone while flying. I thought maybe some Koroks were hiding about, but I don't know!

Taken down my third divine beast, the camel. I must've spent a full 15 minutes just wandering around the interior trying to figure out how to do anything, i'd nabbed almost all the optional chests before accessing my first terminal.
Another great example of concise puzzle design, theses beasts are dope.

Having got this far in the game and also rocking a certain sword that I hear is evils bane I thought I was finally man enough to try and tackle this blue Lynel near the lagoon area on the east edge of the map, nope, dude just kept fucking me up.
I need to prepare monster hunter style for this guy.

Defense buffs from food and potions. Also heart buffing food
(made with radishes)
saved my ass in that fight.

So I was exploring at night when I saw this mysterious light in the distance. I followed it and found
the "lord of the mountain" this weird ghost like moose thing, he vanished when I got close to him. Is there anything I can do with him or is it just something cool and mysterious to find and add to your compendium?

Saw it too.
Were the small magical rabbits there too? The rabbits drop rupees when shot. Had the Sheika stealth armour on so I was able to sneak up on the lord of the mountain. I tried to mount him, but he was too strong. There's a side quest where a guy wants rare meat from that mountain, but I'm not sure if that's the animal you need to kill. Would be a shame.
Afterwards I checked youtube and some people
were able to ride him. 5 stamina that instantly recovered, but it couldn't be registered as a horse. I don't think we know everything yet.

Yeah, I need to get the go the camera. I've just been messing around hunting for shrines. I don't to risk missing a compendium entry so I'm going to get it now. Might have to use the sonar since this one is a real pain.
