This is incredibly stupid. I can't get over how shit this entire mechanic is.

The armor in this game has a decent sense of progression, but they completely screwed it up when it comes to weapons.

The Master Sword being weak in a Zelda game is a goddamn travesty.

Its kind of like the Falchion in FE: Awakening, its an alright sword, but it deals massive damage against certain type of enemies.

Just checking in as a dedicated lurker for my first time. Not much to see here. Dropping in to say this is one of the best games ever made and it's great we all get to play it before it goes down in history.

I just got the sword and that one npc that will obviously guard it told me that it will break, it can self repair but it will take a while so I should only use it against the truly evil things.

It would go against the battle and reward system of the game I guess. I dont mind it, seems kind of weak too.

Yeah, 30 attack isn't all that amazing. The one-handed weapon you sometimes get from those
Yiga clan guys
has 40 attack.
Against Guardians (the big ones, at least) the Master Sword is really good though. 60 attack with that attack speed is nice.

I don't agree at all
You can never rely on a super weapon in the game, you need to balance what to use in different situations.

I think it's well balanced and gives fights more meaning and increases intensity.

I love this game. Just finished my second major dungeon
Gerudo/Camel
dungeon and I still have SO MUCH to do and so much of the world I haven't seen.

In the middle of the Gerudo quest I decided to keep going after
infiltrating the Yiga Hideout and ended up in a snowy mountain range with monsters way out of my league. With some clever climbing and avoidance skills I managed to sneak past them and climb the mountain. Somehow I ended up in an entirely different area, where I saw another Divine Beast flying about. Climbed the tower and peaced out - can't wait to go back.

Another time I was trying to
uncover the memory
north of Hyrule Castle. I got lost and went too far. Intrigued by the landscape, I kept going and eventually found myself in the frozen north. I found
a massive labyrinth, white Lynels that scared the heck out of me, and a shrine at the roof of the world. The sense of adventure was unlike anything I have ever felt playing a game. I never did finish the labyrinth, either, because I couldn't stand the cold long enough to survive before I had to leave.

Its clear that they designed the Weapon and Reward system first, and then had to somehow make the Master Sword fit or it could break the whole thing.

Wait what? That's the first I've heard of the Master Sword breaking..

It auto repairs itself in 10min and adds it's own slot to the weapon inventory. It's a boss destroying machine though.

Now the Hylian shield, that thing is actually indestructible for some reason. It makes every other shield obsolete other than the guardian shields which have unique properties which is kind of frustrating.

On the weapon durability, I've so far very few complaints with it. Biggest is that Stasis puzzles will use your weapons and you might not be able to get new ones right away and that is the worst in my mind.

I do like that weapons when used as tools seem to last longer when used correctly (hammers on ore will last longer than a halbred on ore, etc). Also appreciate that almost anything that makes sense to use as a weapon can be, including skeleton arms and sticks, so there is almost always something you can use to fight with.

I also think the benefits to the game world are worth the small annoyances the system presents. Being able to go into an area with monsters that are going to be harder but being able to find a weapon that is on level is better than being locked out of an area until you find something to make your permanent weapon stronger. Also means there is risk/reward when fighting enemies with weapons that would one-hit them, since you will lose that badass weapon and you might actually want it later.

It being the same with shields is pretty good to, since it actually makes you think about the shield you are using, something I rarely do in any other game.
Using shields to bounce back Gaurdian beams means that I try to use weaker shields for this, but if I mess up I take even more damage. The shield also breaking means I'm usually alright with that happening, since I can use a more powerful shield to egress.
I like that I have spent less time in some areas because I've had all my shields break, making that area seem more difficult and remain mysterious to me until I get better at using the dodge and parry mechanics.

I will say that my tolerance/acceptance of the durability system increased with my inventory abilities. Once I didn't feel that I was leaving weapons behind all the time because of lack of space, I stopped caring about weapons breaking and started to actually almost like it.

Just the way you were writing that post, you were painting this as an objective thing when it's really not the case.

Well, I think it's a flaw. You're free to disagree and explain why, but so many people here just don't wanna hear anything resembling critique or negativity that it's starting to irk me a bit.

I've read that it does break though? It's just has the highest durability.

I don't like the weapon durability thing either, but have learned to enjoy when I see the line "weapon is weak (or whatever it is)" and I look forward to breaking a club over a goblin's head.

Ill be irritated as all hell in a boss fight, but I'm not there yet.

You don't have to "preface every with in my opinion" you can just, you know, use subjective terms. Crazy I know.

What is the reward from Bludo when you finish the ( Fiery villagespoilers...)
save yunobo quest? in the goron village

it keeps telling me I don't have space yet I dropped and made a slot in at least every part of my inventory for it...

How did yall get the chest on the string in the
Gerudo Valley Divine Beast
? I ended up
using stasis, shooting the rope with an arrow, then quickly switching to magnesis to grab it before it fell
seemed kinda like dumb luck tho not sure if I could replicate that strategy.

Haha, did the exact same thing :P

I thought someone posted here that the Hylian shield is destructable, but it has very high durability? Anyways I like the durability mechanic, you get enough weapons in this game that you never really feel short on them.

So I just finished my second dungeon,
The Gerudo Camel.
It took me a while to figure out how to get above the main chamber, I'm not even sure if I did it as intended. Spoilers just in case, but how did you guys get through it?
In the sliding block section that raises the neck (or tail?) of the camel, I got everything in position, then used the Magnet power, and pressed up on the D pad to push it as far away as possible, and as soon it got into position I sprinted towards the rising body platform and just barely climbed on. I think I must have missed a destructable eye thing that would have made it easier for me to get up.

I've been playing for more than six hours (
I got the gliding sail, restored the powers to my tablet at the lab, got a fifth emblem at that fucking awful ball maze sanctuary...
) but Link still feels weak as fuck. I get destroyed by almost every enemy I meet and I still suck at the game. Is that normal? Am I supposed to be much stronger at that point in the game? Is the game just that hard? I feel like I'm missing something... (I only got 3 hearts still... but a little bit more endurance)

Hateno Village
is one of the jolliest places in video games, i wanna live there
Well they make a point to say it was
the place least affected by the return of Ganon
.

As I've journeyed around Hyrule I've found so many ruined towns and outposts. I like how it's a devastated Hyrule, but not to the point where there isn't any civilization. I was worried the world might seem barren going in to the game, but there's actually
way better designed towns than there are in any other Zelda game.

Find shrines to level up. But it can be pretty equipment based.
The main quest asks you to go to kakariko village after you finish the plateau and that's where you can get new armour.

Did that section the exact same way haha

That's true, I like how they've set it up that way.

find the house across the bridge and look for carpenters ;)

3 grand! Damnnnnn

I did the same. I think it's the right way.

EDIT: Haha, I think Jonjonaug's way is the most reliable one

If it does break that's news to me, the amount of abuse mine has taken is far and beyond even triple what my other shields have gone through.

Some streamer I saw talked about how it broke after 26- 27 guardian laser shots. Every other shield breaks at one shot.

I just
cut the power once I had everything in place by rotating the central part of the dungeon, walked up to the end of the Divine Beast, then rotated the power back on
.

Spent ages trying to figure out what to do with the
last cannon to reach the Death Mountain Divine Beast
. I had to give up and look it up online which I hate doing. Turns out the
Divine Beast
isn't where it's supposed to be. Did I do something wrong? Or have I encountered a glitch?

edit: nvm. Figured it out. Didn't realise that I had to
shoot at him
earlier on. And now I have no elixirs left. Grrr...

Enemies a lot more damage in this game than previous Zeldas, where 3 hearts was enough to beat the game on if you had some bottles and fairies. You definitely want to invest at least some in defenses. Buy/upgrade armor and cook food with defense or max hearts up properties to use on tough-looking enemies.

Does anyone have any tips for the shrines in the lost woods? I know there are 4 or so there, but I can't get anywhere but the 'main' area of it.

Are you sure you're in the main area of it? Because pretty much the npcs talk about where they are and they all have very obvious paths.

This is the first game in a long time that has tested my willpower, I work from home doing contract work and I usually have no problem but Breath of the Wild is bringing back old bad younger me procrastination habits haha.

I just had three blood moons within a few minutes of playtime. First one happened in the middle of a fight against several enemies, then after I killed them (which caused them to respawn) and then after the fight again.
I hope that does not happen again... besides of that, I've had another awesome day with the game and I will finally tackle my second dungeon tomorrow. Well maybe at least, if I don't get distracted by other stuff.

You get to all of those from the
Korok forest
. Those shrines are tied to a sidequest, if you have that quest you need to specific
Koroks
to start the shrine quest for each shrine.

Does the main quest lead you to the Master Sword at some point or do I have to search for it by myself at any time during my playthrough?

Other people have been mentioning the Blood Moon thing. It seems to be a glitch of sorts.

Its treated as a side quest, some npc both in the story path and outside of it mention the legendary sword but you are never required to get it.

Yeah, the weapon system's pretty awful. It'd be neat if the DLC or something added an option for infinite durability and stamina.
