The game world is just so utterly complete and well thought out and convincing, it's probably the most "real" open world I've ever played. It's seriously good.

The only two omissions for me are being unable to interact with most animals (especially dogs ;-;) and the lack of underwater swimming.

You can feed dogs food and they'll follow you around, I think someone earlier in the thread said a dog lead them to treasure or something? Not entirely sure.

Have you tried feeding the dogs some meat?

I spent all my time with the game yesterday trying to find the places pictured in
Zelda's digital camera
. I'd run across a guy in the game who told me where two of them were, roughly, and I decided to try and find the rest on my own.

It's hard, but I found 5 more. I find it really fun to triangulate the spots from landmarks, and then narrow down the exact place. I had to open up some more of the map to figure some of them out. And of course, that involved fighting and climbing and swimming and korok guys and getting distracted by bugs and new enemies and shrines and damn-it's-cold and hell-it's-hot and holy-shit-I-didn't-know-you-could-do-that!

I love this game.

Yeah he is, you can't register him like the other deer and bears though
I thought you meant like quest related haha

I also tried to shoot him (both the small magic rabbits and the dragons give you stuff), but nothing happened. That also means the rare meat from the side quest at the nearest stable isn't from him. I'm glad he can't be killed.

Thanks. If there's literally just a couple in the whole world it's gonna take me an age to upgrade my armour. Damn.
The spawn on the edge of the map in the north near the center. I don't have the map in front of me I'm pretty sure they are directly North of the
korok forest
on the edge of the map. They are spread out but all you have to do is follow the edge

So after scrolling over my super temporary heart dish in my inventory I found out that the max hearts Link can have at one time is
30
. Which is theoretically hittable with just Spirit Orb upgrades, but I don't think I ever want to find out if you really can since you'd have barely any stamina.

Is there any point in saving gems? Especially the ones that says "fetched a high price since ancient times" and all that.

Just out of curiosity, I snuck into Hyrule Castle grounds just to see how far I could get before getting killed.

Scaled the castle...

Made it past laser beam sentries
with zero encounters using climbing and sneakery...

Climbed into the throne room and now I
I'm stuck fighting Windblight Ganon, kinda underpowered.

...I've made a huge mistake 😳

Can I leave if I die or do I just have to go through with this?

Got the 4th DB done. Have a vague idea of where the final memory is and when I get that it's
Master Sword time.
I'm trying to do everything vaguely what I think Link would actually do. It's fun.

I did the second shrine! Obviously I don't have the
paraglider
yet. 2 More to go.
I have to stock up on peppers for cold resistance to brave the cold. That's if I'm doing this in order? I dunno.

So I'm exploring the roof tops of Gerudo Town and notice some melon crusts floating down the water way, I follow the trail and find an npc just chilling in the back of the palace just eating melons. Little details like this really add character to the towns of the game I feel. Its not significant or anything but all these little details really add up over time and I think its kind of cool.

You respawn outside the room

But I remember that there wasnt a door when I was fighting. Didnt try to leave tho so Idk if you can just walk away.

Just picked up a Smash Bros. Ganondorf from Nintendo Store on 48th Street here in NYC

Fire up BotW, tap Amibo -> Knight's Claymore with Durability Up

Game-breaking? A bit. Cool as shit. Yessir!

I love it. The guy who gives hints shows up in a lot of stables if you want more precise info. I'm missing two right now, the two with no landmarks in them
(the one that is on some fortress and the last picture in the woods.)

Also, I love Kass and his Parisian music in the middle of nowhere. Met him far away in a lightning storm. Kass, you warm my heart.

Ancient core

Things I discovered just now doing things for the Tarry Town quest

1. Bombs are more useful than you think, they can chop down trees and do all sorts of stuff I previously only thought could be done with bladed melee weapons.

2. Unless my eyes decieved me electrified enemies can be affected by the magnesis rune

3. The Yiga clan gets FUCKING RELENTLESS after you finish a certain quest

I didn't really care for Koroks showing up at random places, but in their forest it's adorable.

Anyone else who did the typho ruins shrine challenge? It's the most dark soulsy the game got. Took me quite a while to discover it eventhough I walked past it way too many times.

And the Blue Flames shrine is also so good. Shrines do come in various shapes and sizes.

So I made my way to Zora's Domain and went out to fight
Lynel
. I'm still not sure, is that the creature type or its particular name? Anyway, I've encountered monsters like him before and they destroy me. They just seem like dumb wizards that chuck elements at you from far away. This one was no different, I was having a tough time. I finally decide to find out what kind of damage the
Ancient Arrow
does. LOL! COMPLETELY VAPORIZED! HAHAHAHAH SUCK IT, STUPID WIZARD

is sneaking into
hyrule castle
super early and getting great stuff game breaking or just rewarding for your effort? with 4 hearts i know have weapons with >50 attack and i even beat a miniboss and got, i believe the best

Those weapons still won't last you forever, so enjoy them while you still have them :D

Just had a most amazing gaming sequence I had in years. Main Quest spoilers if you haven't been to Zora.

Decided to go search for a memory place. Turned out it was at the Lanayru Gate. Instead of fast traveling back, I decided to follow the road back and see where it ends. Turned out there was one guy in the end of the road, saying he's been looking for Zora's domain--a place I've never been before. Said a Zora was waiting on top of a Sheikah Tower on the other side. I flew there, climbed, met the Zora, which led me to the Prince, went to Zora's domain, and basically resolved everything there.

Everything felt natural. Like it was a big story arc in itself. One thing keeps leading to others.

I tried and it's blocked with magic. No worries, I've found an exploit for this part. If it gets too crazy I'll just die or load a previous save.

uhhh for all you Stamina only upgraders (Minir Master Sword Spoiler)
Apparantly, you need at least 13 hearts to get the master sword. Good thing i found out now because i was 9 and about to upgrade more stamina

This might be the first game in my life that has overwhelmed me. Dark Souls, Bethesda games, GTA all feel easy to digest compared to BOTW. There's so much option that it hurts my enjoyment of the game.Having put 20 hours into the game, I think I'm going to restart and go through the areas one by one. Otherwise it's too daunting.

After a while you realize there's no reason or any practical ability to see and do everything. There's too much stuff.

I have completed 44 shrines and have the master sword and there's still tons of side stuff I could be doing and big areas I could be exploring but instead I'm just going to get on with it. Like any open world game it starts to feel pointless doing side content after a certain point.

One of the aspects I've enjoyed most is cooking. I've gone through so many ingredients experimenting and trying to figure out the most effective/efficient recipes.

For instance, in many cases it seems varied low level ingredients produce a better result than just the same low level ingredient.

This is an extremely strong and very easy to make stealth buff. It's 4 silent shrooms and 1 nightshade, and both of these ingredients are common.

This is 3 hearty radishes and 2 food items (in this case, 2 hylean herbs). Insanely powerful.

Actually it's not the side quests or shrines that scare me, it's the fact that you can climb anything and thus can go truly anywhere. It's scary how open this game is.

I scanned that amiibo last night and I got...

Well we can just say my jaw hit the floor.

So cool.

Being able to climb any natural surface in this game really is a massive change. It's something I've wanted open-world games to do for a long time.

I always hated seeing mountains and cliffs in Skyrim or Far Cry that basically acted as impassable walls. The climbing in Zelda ensures that 100 percent or nearly 100 percent of the world map is accessible on foot. This is not true of the aforementioned games where a surprising amount of the space is occupied by those mountains, somewhat obscuring how much playable space there really is in each game. Recently some other open-world games have done this a little less by having more naturally-shaped geography with rolling hills and less steep mountains: Just Cause, Ghost Recon Wildlands, Arma, Witcher 3 to an extent, and I'm told GTA V. Zelda just let's you straight-up climb shit though. That massive mountain that would only be a chunk of scenery in another game actually has hidden content at the top in Zelda.

Creed of course let you climb any artificial structures and I wouldn't be surprised if that's where Nintendo got the idea from. Nintendo however has applied it to a less urban and more natural open-world while probably making better use of the climbing with better-placed content.

Part of me wants to say BOTW is the third game to raise the bar for open-world games over the last few years, the first two being GTA V and Witcher 3. I'd like to say MGSV has already had an affect on open-world military shooters like Sniper: Ghost Warrior 3, Sniper Elite IV, and Wildlands. I hope the other aforementioned games have an affect on future games too.

Haven't checked on it, since I don't want to get spoiled, but how far have people come with speedrunning? Are people able to run up to the castle right away and defeat the final boss? Any major discoveries yet?
