Yeah I get that. Sorry I posted that without editing, I mean people are saying there is specific references to the child timeline made by Zelda? I can't see where they are.
I don't remember specifically which, but in one of the memories, Zelda talks about the Master Sword, and I don't remember the exact wording, but they allude to previous games.
I think my perception of the dungeons in the game are very different given that I pretty much did none of the main missions on my way to finishing the game and have only been exposed to Shrines.
The above is probably the best part about the game for me: I get to experience my story in gameplay as opposed to some narrative or sequence of events that the game pushes on you... that said, what narrative there is is actually very interesting because of the manner in which all the information is distributed to the player: I was surprised to learn that there was a
love triangle or something between Mipha, that Zora shop girl and Link at some point
... it was an interesting way to experience the information and tied really well with the idea that I'm scrambling around to recover my memories. It also helps that Nintendo's animations are top-notch and I don't feel like interactions with NPCs are cheap looking (like in, say, Yakuza Zero or Nier Automata, where it's clearly b-content in terms of production compared to the main narratives): they put so much details into all the random NPC animations that I feel like this should be the standard that games aspire to (I love that one random dude who paints on his canvas by swinging the brush around like a sword... there's even a swish sound lol).
I normally don't like open world, but the Nintendo stuff (this, X, Xenoblade) has been good to me because it feels like it hasn't been lazily designed: a lot of the random enemy camp areas in Zelda always feel unique with regard to the approaches I'm allowed to make.
ANYWAY, I generally perceive dungeons as being a long set of interconnected rooms where I explore and occasionally solve puzzles.
In that conext, this new Zelda is pretty much just one big dungeon to me: I will climb to the highest point in the immediate area and look around for the next shrine or some random point of interest.
I then figure out how to go to that point of interest using the tools that the game gives me.
(I've actually climbed up waterfalls using the ice thing in order to gain access to the
Zora Domain
, which I don't think you can normally climb into otherwise due to the forced rainfall (the NPC who told me to make my way in even reacted in surprise when I came up from behind him, which I thought was really neat)... I was really pleased that the game allowed me to do this, as tedious as it was to actually do)
Actually, I feel like shrines have offered more interesting puzzles to me than any of the 3D Zeldas in the past (I was like WTF/impressed with that one puzzle regarding the constellation and some of the puzzles you solve to even get into a shrine have been pretty tight, like the one in that area with all the lightning)... and the best part is that I'm rewarded with something awesome that makes the game play better (weapons, points for stamina, etc.) as opposed to something that's kinda shit, like getting into another room with another fucking puzzle or random 20 rupees that I can't buy anything interesting with that I could have gotten by breaking pots.
Anyway, I'm completely smitten with the game.
(doesn't hide the fact that I do have complaints though: I just went to the
lost woods area where the old tree dude is
and the frame rate still tanks even in handheld mode... Nintendo, pls give us 720p docked option ;-
A) The dungeons in this game aren't really like old Zelda.
B) You must not notice framerate at all because the entire town drops to 20FPS and it's the worst performing town out of any village in the game by far because the lower framerate is sutained. If I had a framerate analysis tool I'd run it for you but it's pretty obvious that it's running at 20 frames there unless you don't notice these things at all.
A) I was talking about the area before the dungeon and what you have to do there. It's like in other Zelda games but the areas are bigger and allow for more approaches to get to your objective compared to older entries because despite the size the level design is complex and very well thought out. The section just before getting in the dungeon was fucking great as well. And i perfectly know how Zelda dungeons are, it's my favorite series lol that doesn't mean that the new physics based puzzles aren't amazing as well.
B) Lol i've been playing on PC since i was 9 and i notice even the smallest stuttering, let alone drops of 10fps at a time. I didn't notice anything there because the game doesn't drop at all in that area, when it does it's pretty impossible not to see it thanks to double buffering. I'm talking about the Switch version by the way.
The hole in one driver shrine: first hole "my aim needed a little of work but no problem after a few tries"
Second hole "... how is that not a hole in one?!?!?!?!?! If I smack it less it won't reach"
But seriously. Is it something with having to have pinpoint aim or do you just need Lady Luck on your side?

memory on the list, when she knights Link, she says something about a hero and twilight, a hero and wind and a hero and time. Can this game be merging the three timelines?
just can't seem to control the seal at all. And I always seem to slip out of the circle when the lightning hits. Then I keep killing myself by being to close when I shoot the legs. One time I got it down to one leg and ran out of arrows, lol..
The place you need to go is marked on your map. At some point I'm guessing Mysterious Female Voice told you to look at your map. Maybe you haven't seen that yet or forgot about it.
It wasn't marked on my map though, just randomly stumbled on it. Only 3 things have been on the map, temple of resurrection, shrine of Oman au and rip.
When she was talking she said go to the point on the map, but at that point, not even Oman au was showing. I had to find that one.
Saw an acorn hanigng from a chain form a bridge near dueling peaks. Shot it with an arrow and poof another seed. Fuck this makes 49 seeds and I have yet to explore the area's around Kakariko/horse stable area
I think I know what to look for and then something new pops up... in the starting area's
Anyone else finding horses to be more trouble than they are worth? I spend way more time climbing hills and mountains than running around on plains. They always end up out of range.

Erm...People clearly mentioned WiiU . The game drops frames hard in that area and hard locks to 20, I don't know how it runs on Switch as I don't have that version.
As for the dungeon, nothing except Vah Naboris is complex really. The setup to it is just that flashy setpieces which are incredibly simple and easy...except for the Vah Rudania setpieces.
So I'm trying to do the main quest after wondering around the world for hours. In your first visit to Kakariko
Impa tells you you don't have your memory back. You can ask her to tell you what happened. Can you go explore the world and find fragments of your memory, or you have to ask her to tell you what happened?

That's the one that I was talking about, but the thing that confuses me is that this references Twilight Princess, Wind Waker and Ocarina of Time, respectively. Twilight Princess and Wind Waker are in different timelines, and Ocarina is sort of in all of them. So I don't know if they're just supposed to be little references or if this is supposed to be some sort of timeline clue.

This actually ties into another one of my complaints: at base, it seems like most horses are kinda shitty (I'm to understand that patterned horses control less derpy than solid colored horses, based on what a random NPC told me).
Like, I understand they wanted variation in horses, but they should have limited it to things like stamina and speed as opposed to the damn things veering left and right randomly.
That said, I'm looking forward to experimenting with the horses more now that I'm in post-game: I really like the design of being able to force slow motion by jumping off a horse and then aiming with the bow.
Well I done stabbed that Ganon fella, game is alright I guess.
But no really the game was bloody refreshing for the franchise and I've enjoyed them all for the most part, I do feel safe in saying right now that this is the best Zelda game since the N64 duo, in fact I'm incredibly comfortable saying that having replayed ALBW, WWHD and TPHD in the last two years.
Gonna hold back on full thoughts until I've played some more, I only just did Eventide Island and that just serves to show how much cool stuff I've got left to discover even after 40 hours and having done the main business.

They only veer off if you don't have the bond up with them. Which is incredibly easy to raise. I haven't had a horse for longer than 5 minutes without max bond.

I'm 100% bonded with Epona (lol) and I still feel like it becomes hard to make the thing go the way I want it a lot of the time.
I suspect it has to do with its wild temperament though and I should consider taming an Epona Mk II that's a spotted horse.
EDIT:
Actually, an NPC told me that you can make the horsey ride better not by mashing pet, but by only petting it when the horse does something you like... can anyone go into more detail about this?
I finished the game. I completed 50 shrines, all the dungeons, and found every memory.
I can't say I'd give it a 10/10. It was a lovely story and a fun game with some great moments, but ultimately flawed and, in my case, extremely buggy with some startling design oversights.
Story observation
I like that the story ends with some resolution for Zelda. She's the main character -- She's the only one with an arc. Link is just a buffoon who kills things and never says a word. This is Zelda's story.
Same feeling I had with the zodiac puzzle in Silent Hill. I made diagrams, counted the stars of each contellation, arranged the 12 signs accordingly, etc... When I figured out the solution, I felt like the dumbest person in the world.
How's everyone finding the controls in portable mode?
I done some gaming in it, and well it's ok, but I think the button placement for the sticks are my main issue. Maybe they should be placed same as the Wii U tablet.
I know this has probably been answer many times but where can i find hesto (sp?) Found him the first time on my way to kakariko but he isnt there anymore.
By the way, I'm pretty sure the NPC was referencing soothing your horse after you make them go the way you want them to go promptly after them veering off
Question about the top of Mount Lanaryu (the icy mountain).
Just freed the dragon up there without a quest telling me to, it was right there after the village so I had to go explore. Is there a specific quest later to do this? Kind of like having the narrative driving me forward and filling in the reasons for doing it, so might reload.
