So we know external HDDs are tied to the machine and not your PSN account. But what if you reinitialize your PS4? Would it still recognize the external or would it wipe again?

Yeah, lots of people commented negatively on this in the beta forum... not sure why the fuck they changed the notifications page to this. People need to start complaining to Sony reps on twitter I guess.
 
Unless something has changed, I don't know how you can call those low quality trash files that sharefactory makes "gifs"

really disappointed to see this. & to also see that, on top of it, we still can't delete those friggin' notifications. smh :) ...
 
Hi Gaf, really worried here. Since updating firmware to 4.50 my input lag on Ks8000 has gone through the roof and it not only affects all games but cursor on browser too. Before update everything was working well but now all games are unplayable. Lag is inconsistent hovering between 30ms to over 100ms. Rocket league is completely unplayable on SP and MP. Please could you test and report back. Im on original PS4 btw and yes game mode is on / HDR off.
 
checked playstation's twitter and majority of the tweets directed at them are some dumb stuff like "let us change our names" instead of telling them off about the notifications mess they've just done :/

I think the power save setting to supply power to usb for 3 hours after idling is disconnecting my external hdd, it wasnt doing that when in beta. Guess it's getting set to always on now.
 
Really enjoyed the update it took all of 5 mins to get my external 2tb up and running. Going to try some 3D movies probably Monday I forgot to order Dredd and TFA.

Just got done testing this between my Pro and launch PS4.

Both consoles were updated to 4.5 and I formatted my external drive on the Pro. I copied a digital game and a physical game that were not installed on my launch console to the drive and then disconnected it in the Sound/Devices section of the Quick Menu. I powered on the launch console and logged into to my PSN account and then plugged in the external drive (USB powered). After about 10 seconds both games showed up, though they were not in the folders they're normally in on my Pro. Both games launched and played with no issues at all.

So, the external drive is account locked and not system locked. Now, if they can just add the option of copying games/apps instead of just moving them would be great. But, very happy nonetheless to finally be able to use external storage on a PS console.

i just figured it was a placeholder and would have been changed by the final release...

i figured wrong... and ya its bad i was like what is this.... how could they make the notifications any worse... well they did.

but its all worth it for boost mode.
 
On a Pro here, anyone having an issue where the TV & Video options won't load below the icon?

Nothing would load, I would just get the "busy" symbol (the x, o, sq, tri logo spinning... similar to a buffering symbol) and nothing would load. Tried to put it into Rest Mode and come out of it, no dice. Restarted, no dice.

Finally turned it off/on, and it loaded after about a minute.

Anyone else have this issue?

press options to view a Downloads or Uploads notification list. when you do this notice how the UI elements between the three pages aren't even the same. heh

that sounds like it might be a PSN issue. similar to how sometimes what's new feed won't load for me
 
Anyone having issues with Horizon Zero Dawn post firmware update? I was playing it fine a couple of days ago, try to run it today after the firmware update and I can get a few minutes into gameplay then a hard application crash. Every single time (tried it 3 or 4 times and gave up in frustration).

I've reported it a couple of times through their tool but I can't play the game.

I did attach an external USB harddrive but H:ZD is still on my internal.

-- Note 1: H:ZD was suspended when I turned on the PS4 today and it bluescreened wanting to update to the new firmware -- which I let it do.

-- Also have a weird issue that Disc Jam 1.3(?) patch refuses to download as well.

Do I maybe need to do a check on the system?

Thanks for any pointers.
 
I just had a chance to download the firmware. Who the fuck decided to vomit all over the notifications tab? Going from sections to one massive dump? Something that was clean an easy to navigate to a massive list. I refuse to believe it was an approved change and was something that slipped through the cracks. Someone can't be that dumb.
 
Ah! For those wondering. You really need a 3.0 usb HDD to do file transfer. Was crossing my finger my old 500g WD 2.0 Hard Drive would magically work, no. Got a message drive unsupported.
 
Sony: I'm gonna just dump all your fucking shit into one "convenient" list fam, you can even scroll down all the way back to the beginning of time!

Yea I just realised this but one difference is that on PC if the drive isn't in use it spins down. Currently if you have that drive set as the application install location it keeps it in use even when in rest mode. I came back to the console 6hrs later, no downloads running and can still hear (light too) the drive spinning.
 
I did some tests and it seems that loading time is a little bit faster if a game is installed on external storage.
I use a normal hdd, not ssd.
Isn't it strange?
 
Not being able to use a themes Icons and Sounds makes custom wallpaper pointless for me. I was really hoping I could just change the background of my custom theme because it's the only sounds I like.

The edith finch theme. It's GOAT.
 
Pretty disappointed. I order THIS hard drive and it isn't working. It looks like it is within all of the requirements and Sony hasn't responded to me on Twitter yet. Really frustrating.

When I go to format it it says I need a hard drive either:
A) USB 3.0 or higher (Got it)
B) Mininum 256 GB/Max 8 TB (just inside that limit)
C) Hooked up directly to the PS4 (Yup)

And it gives me the error code CE-41899-1 and I don't understand it. I am hooking it up to a PS4 Pro on the front right USB port... should I try plugging it in in the back or the front left port? I doubt that is it because it gives me all of the info about it, so it is clearly reading it. I just don't get it.

Wouldn't surprise me. Some people have said that the transfer speed on the internal hdd is lower than you would expect (due to the bus I think, not the drive itself). USB 3.0 drives have pretty fast connections.
