Wow. What a game! Traditional and modern, Nintendo in top form. The controls, openess and sense of freedom feel completely unhindered by mission checkpoints and narrative funnelling (not to mention trophies to worry about.) The details are great too, such as (minor shrine spoiler)
the ice cube in a shrine. It kept melting as soon as I picked it up. Tried so many different mays to move it but no luck. A few minutes later I realised the flaming sword strapped to my back was melting it. Unequip and away we go!
So neat.

Post-ending question:
Did defeating Ganon change anything in-game other than a star on my save?

Nintendo, please explore these design concepts in other franchise (especially Pokemon and Metroid.) Thanks! :)

It sounds like you need to snow em how it's done, kiddums.

And by that I mean find Pondo and never worry about money again.

That's bullshit, goddamn, I actually knew about pondo and how you could get 300 from him, but when i tried it, it seemed like too many variables to get a perfect shot and make good money, but now with this bullshit, than im all good
Cook some 5 item foods and sell it. Thats how I got like 1000 rupees quickly. Well, relatively.

And yeah I did the same thing for
Mipha's
weapon. Must preserve it.

I'll keep this in mind

I think it may be related to how many shrines I've completed but
almost all weapons/items out of chests come with bonus stats and I run into silver mobs that drop gems like rubies, sapphires, etc.

Beat the
Chaas Qeto - major test of strength
shrine and picked up some amazing weapons, gonna be a shame when they break :(

There are several more and they become average later on. Don't become attached to weapons, it's not worth the headache (:

I find teleporting around and going straight to fighting the stone bosses the best way to earn money. They drop a ton of gems and also diamonds.

Seriously the headphones is a game changer. So many little sounds. I was looking for enemies for a quest and I was able to find him thanks to following their faint sounds. I would not have heard it for sure on docked mode.

Im super LTTP but headphones are a revelation.

So annoying the pro controller doesn't have a headphone jack.

The last couple of times I decided I was going to do more story stuff, but I keep getting distracted. 30 hours in and I've yet to do a dungeon.

This game, man.

Yeah, I really wish I could play this with headphones late at night while the wife is asleep. Even during the day I don't have it loud enough to hear the subtle exploring music, oh well.

and it's not even legit. he'll become spooked and check for you after exiting the hollow log no matter what. It's pre-determined

I hated that mission for so many reasons
When I saw the wolves come out and him yelling for Mr. Hero, I popped out - immediate mission failure. What the fuck is that?

You know, they really didn't need to have tailing missions...

l've played this game for dozens of hours and this is the only part l hated.

The worst was the wolf, he cries out for "mr hero" to save him so l panick and pop out of cover to kill the wolf, he spots me and bitches at me. l wanted to throw him into the nearest fire.

edit great minds think alike

Man having such a hard time understanding the gerudo dungeon. Any tips?

If it's your first dungeon:
Look around the map screen, you can do more than just look at the map.

Otherwise:
There are metal bars around which conduct electricity. If you already figured out what to do with the electricity, make sure you also check how cutting off the electrical current affects the dungeon too.

Found arbiter grounds from twilight princess but it's claimed by the desert:( only the top sticks out of the sand lol.

Well the Mirror was broken anyway so:P but it's cool it's atleast sort of ingame.

and then at the end, even though they tell you NOT to be seen, you're supposed to go talk to him --- even though they never tell you to do that and only said not to be seen. Because of that I DIDN'T talk to him and went back to the mission giver and realized I hadn't completed it so I had to start over again.

Boom, 100 shrines done. Somehow still only 79 Korok seeds. I need to stop traveling peak to peak and explore the world by horseback or foot haha.

I kind of hope hard mode lets you carry over your gear. The gear I'm getting upgraded from the fairy fountain and the weapons from the shrines at this point are way OP for the main story. Some of the silver enemies hit harder than Calamity Ganon.

Edit: oh wow your stamina upgrades max out

Spent some time listening to old Zelda soundtracks while I did some homework.

I love BotW, but none of the tracks are as memorable to me as the highlights from Ocarina of Time or Wind Waker. The worst part is that the few good tracks from BotW are used super sparingly. The generic overworld and combat music is completely forgettable for me.

That and the voice-acting are my two biggest complaints with BotW.

The only two memorable tracks for me (That aren't remixes) so far are Sidon's theme and the Hyrule Castle theme. The soundtrack is disappointing.

I hate all the shrine unlocks that require me to wait outside. Some of the riddles are clever, but I'm not a fan of waiting around to know what time a shadow gets cast.

I have just finished the Rito dungeon. It definitely felt like a step down after having already done Zora and Gerudo quests. Both had more clever dungeon designs, as well as better character build up and set up missions. It is weird that Rito is so simple, since a lot of it felt so much like it was designed to be the player's first main quest. However, pretty much everyone I know ran across Zora first since it is the closest to the player's starting point.

I did the Korok Trials and
mushrooms? My reward is some junk you found on the ground? I DROWNED IN A SWAMP.

Right now I'm trying to get all the towers. I know a lot of us scoffed that Zelda was incorporating Ubitowers, but they are done so well here. You feel a sense of accomplishment when you finally get up there, and the location provides a unique set of challenges. It's wild that I can fill out the entire map when I haven't done any of the dungeons.

I have a very good surround system and consider the sound design in this stellar.

I can't remember a single note from it. Then again I go out of my way to avoid combat since it's so dull. Except for Lynels of course.

The music that was playing as I fought my way up the Tabitha? Tower (Electric Wizzrobes/Lizalfos) was easily my favorite part of the game.

How in the hell do you get the second tier upgrade for the champion tunic?

2 horn chunks of the dragon you freed earlier? I haven't seen that one ever since that.
Try going to the
Lanyaru East Gate
. Kill
the Lynel
, make a campfire, wait until morning. Look towards the mountain. It's not 100%, but there should be
a dragon
. Just hold position. Maybe climb the gate for a good shot. It will pass right by you.

D'oh! Selling ore nets a ton of rupees, but after unlocking the last fairy all I can say is I wish I didn't sell all my amber (:

Good non-remix music from BotW:
Molduga Battle 2
Vah Rudania 2
Akkala Ancient Tech Lab
And every version of the main theme.

Music isn't around that often, but when it does kick in it's good IMO. If only there was more of it.

I do love how several non-boss enemy types have their own music, how when you finish a fight the music transitions into an ending bit naturally, how as you progress through a dungeon the music starts to build up and add instruments, all those little kinds of musical touches.

I just did this and got so pissed off I had to turn the game off for the night lol

When he turned around and ran fast towards me I was just in disbelief. Too stupid. I was already annoyed cause after a few minutes he said "Halfway!" and I was like fuck, only halfway. Then that bullshit happened.

At this point, I'm confident this is going to be a landmark game that is remembered and written about years later, just like Ocarina. That's not an exaggeration. The way the game keeps you playing is masterful. There is constantly something to look for, something to reward more to find, something more to surprise you. It's designed in such a way that you want to keep playing just for the sake of exploration.
