Metacritic score for BOTW is now 97 with Jim Sterling's & Slant Magazine's review. Who knew two people had the power to change it. I'm slightly depressed about it TBH. I knew Jim would be the skeptical one, Escapist Zero Punctuation is probably next to make the next low score. Still regardless, I guess his review on the game is well-explained.

It's not the low scores I worried about TBH, it's how others will react to a one point decrease and how they'll use it to diss Zelda. :/
this has to be a joke post..

97 is still better than 100% of the other games so fear not lol.

Is there a good way to go about beating Lynels? Particular weapons that are good? Potions? I've gotten the general pattern down of the one I'm fighting. Lots of dodging (damn
fireballs
) and flurry rushes. Should likely leave it alone as I got what I need from the area already. However I hate that he's still living. That and I'm hoping it drops its weapon and shield. My issue right now is I'm just not doing enough damage. So it becomes a very drawn out fight to the point I'm running through all the food I have and ingredients.
Use stasis. Cook meals that increase defence. Apart from that, learn how to dodge and parry.

Also, I wouldn't worry about killing it just for the sake of killing it. I mean, it'll come back to life anyway.

Yes, 97 is still really good either way. I wonder what's going to happen though. :/

Jeees, don't worry about it. Enjoy the game.

Damn! Seriously? Damn blood moons! Ugh. Guess I won't worry about it then for now until much later.

Will try to work on the suggestions though. Thanks.

The raft is way faster than cryonis. You can also use Korok leaves to propel the flying platforms you make with balloons.

Reviews are a reflection of how enjoyable a game was to the reviewer and that's it. Of course they don;t need to inflate their score cause the game is polished.

I don't agree here with you. So, lets say, I would play Anima Crossing and call it boring it would be okay when I gave it a 2/10 because I fell asleep while playing it. It would be okay if I just ignore all the gameplay elements who work very good together to make a special game. In very rare cases that might be true and review scores are all over the place. But as a professional journalist you still.need to be able to see if a game works or not. If it well crafted or not.
Of course is the enjoyment of the product an important part but you can't throw everything else the game has to offer over board just because you didnt enjoy it.
Personal I would never enjoy WoW but I could still apreciate the world they created, the balance they made and the good gameplay the game offers. I still would give it a 9/10 even if I didnt enjoy it that much because I know it is not for me. Reviews arent just opinions from the reviewer. It is also there for people to get information about an product and why it might be something for them. And if your score is way below or above the average score then you need to think if you might just gave your feelings a score and not the actual product. That might be okay for a blog but not a professional journalist.

Btw I speak of reviews in general. Not just Jims BotW one.

Not quite, but you can
avoid talking to them after they go away to another place

Dang it, I already talked to them there.

When I first found (and was killed) by one I though "whoa, a centaur! It's super strong too! Never expected to find one in a Zelda game... Wait a minute. Holy shit LTTP!!!"

Then I remembered it was one of the few enemies that hit hard and took more than a single slash to kill. BotW version is amazing.

My first taste of these walking nightmares was with the oracle games

seeing them in 3d is amazing and they are cooler than darknuts in my book.

is this game worth paying $500 for a switch + the cartridge off ebay

I can afford it but idk

Unless you are dying for a Switch right this second, no. You can probably buy the Wii U version and a used Wii U for cheaper and play the game. I honestly never buy off scalpers no matter how bad I wanted a console, I feel like I legitimize their cash grabs if I did so.

I think I actually really love Hyrule Castle Town in this game, and I haven't even been there yet. From what information you can gather from NPCs it's this incredibly dangerous, high security area which is hiding untold wealth due to being abandoned after the calamity. It gives it this almost... The Zone like feeling, only the most elite of treasure hunters will risk their lives to actually get any of it.

My suggestion? Turn the computer off. This is trivial.

I know what you're getting at here, and I think a lot reviewers (in any medium) try to follow some scale of objectivity when it comes to reviews, in some sense, so that the entirety of their criticism isn't just based on personal opinion.

But where you're coming from, I don't see how a game would ever be rated below a 9? I don't know - I could justify a pretty low score for Animal Crossing where I'm coming from.

Just did the shora hah shrine. That was significantly larger than any of the dungeons ive done. Better puzzles too. Wish the dungeons were at least like this

This is what I was talking about last page... how does a review make you slightly depressed. And so what if the Metacritic score went down? It is aggregate bullshit in the first place. How will this impact your enjoyment of the series or game? And you honestly think people will use it to badmouth? Hell this game can drop below 90 with some shit reviews and it will still be one of the best games ever made, one of the best Zeldas.

Just done my first treasure hunting run of Hyrule Castle. While it's a huge shame the game doesn't have such a vivid, moving thematic throughline as Majora's Mask or Wind Waker, I love how precisely Zelda is characterised, and her father and Link (even his silence!) through their relationship to her. The voice acting is over-the-top, but Nintendo have done some lovely work filling in the nuances of her personality and conflict. The Gerudo (and Urbosa) also benefit from some wonderful cultural specificities and character design.

Come on, did you even read the review? I think he summed up his complaints perfectly fine. You don't have to agree with all of them, I don't agree with all of his complaints either. I'm not going to say he only did it to get clicks though, I think his complaints warrant the score if he did really find them as much of an issue as he said.

I couldn't at the time because some nob head was DDOSing his site at the time

Reading now btw, complaints are normal for people to have, their own views & differences of opinion are great.

But....

Metacritic Profile page for The Jimquisition

http://www.metacritic.com/publication/the-jimquisition?filter=games&page=4

Sitting just above Saints Row: Gat out of Hell on page 5

it's fairly obvious by the other games he gave 80 and below to that he's either being petty or has changed his review standards greatly in the past week....

Anyway, done is done, I'm sure there will be a web episode about it to look forward to... ;)

Fought 3 really tough moblins on the way to the
rito
region tower. Their camp ground at the base of the tower is a treasure trove of high level weapons. Worth it.

I felt a real sense of adventure within the first area but now that I've gotten to the first village (for the quest), that feeling hasn't been replicated. A bit too much bland empty land for my tastes. Will try venturing in another direction and seeing if the areas can grab me like they did the Great Plateau.

Need some help on a secondary mission in Gerudo.

The eight heroine - I have found a sword on top of the summit. Is the statue close by? Been looking around the entire highland for 2 hours or so.

I'm not too far into the game, so I would like to ask if there is any missable sidequest, because I would like to focus on the main one.

Do you guys think Nintendo could polish up the game and patch it up later on(frame rate, bug fixes etc) ?

Or is this just not how Nintendo rolls ?

It's in the same area, not really close, but not too far either.

Welp, this is the second time I've skipped seeing Logan so I can play more of this game. Ah well. I'll go next weekend...

119 shrines down, 1 to go.

Need to complete the Gerudo dungeon to gain access to the last shrine... been trying to power through the shrines before the dungeons but turns out that's not 100% possible.

I hope you get the magic feeling back. It didn't come back for me :(

In this day and age it's unbelievable. Not surprising that some late reviews are coming out with a negative opinion. They'd have nothing to gain by just giving the game another 9 or 10. These reviews are all about clicks imo. Of course people can have their opinions and all, but BotW is pretty special and even a very negative outlook can't ignore how much it gets right and how much love and care went into creating it. If you're going to give it a 6 or 7 you better have a flawless record of judging other games the same way if I'm going to take that opinion seriously. That includes not giving games like Fallout 4 or Triforce Heroes a higher score.

So I'm done with the first part of the world. I've gone east and the map didn't disappear for it when i finally went there. How do you get the maps for new areas?

I really hope this is a joke post. It was only a matter of time before a couple of middling reviews came in. See all the other 90+ games on that list? They all got a few middling reviews too that brought their scores down. Did they deserve them? Maybe, maybe not, it's a matter of perspective. And that's what reviews are. As you said, the review WAS well explained and I can agree with him on some of his points. Even with these scores, there is not likely going to be a game that tops it for quite a while.
