The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild |OT2| It's 98 All Over Again

Played 27 hours since friday evening. I have no idea how. I'm done for the weekend lol Eyes hurting and shit @_@

Lots of game left but I want to start pacing myself as well. Its hard to put down. I told myself I'd stop when I got to
Tabantha
tower. Then it was when I got to the first shrine in the region. Then finally I decided to stop after I got to the village. THENNNNNNN I was like fuck it let me
talk to the elder
. I had to pry myself away.

I also need to carve some time to just fuck around in the world. I wish I had more of an imagination to do goofy things in the game instead of going after every quest. I just cant help it.

Plus the plateau area was great. I still never explored the entirety of it yet.

Same. I havent even been to the river.

Slant's review has some questionable points
"But it can take a player hours to leave the Great Plateau, Breath of the Wild‘s introductory area, and actually experience the massive world beyond its seemingly mile-high walls. You cannot leave the plateau until you follow the orders of a mysterious old man, and as you explore this area, ransacking the same type of Moblin camp can get old fast."
I'm not quite sure what they're trying to point out as a negative here, it has a tutorial area?

They seem to want it to be 100% open, like a Dark Souls? Hardly any games are that open, though, and the plateau isn't that long, and teaches you essential things, so I don't see how it's in itself some big negative. Doing 4 of what you'll do 116 more times isn't asking much to set you free.

Yesterday I was finally able to catch an unspotted black horse. I named it Agro. Agro is so much faster than all my other horses. Now riding around is fun and easy. I think the horse controls/feel in BOTW still doesn't beat SOTC, but its quite good.

Faron Woods
would be PS4 level if it was 1080p. Can't believe they pulled that off on Wii U. Frame rate is pretty bad here though even on Switch lol

Btw, you CAN skip the red moon cutscene by pressing +

Man, the music in the area around the Dow Na'eh Shrine (
behind the waterfall at the Lanayru Prominade
) is so good. Just stood there for a while.

So is potions the only way to protect yourself from heat? Is there no clothing you can get that does this? I thought juat holding an ice weapon would do the trick but apparently not.

Yeah what was up with that? It was really neat.

Gerudo Town
has some clothes and accessories that will keep you cool.

There are a couple armor sets that grant Heat resistance. They're sold in the same region you would want to use them.

He says you have to remember shrines by eye when that is objectively false. That's just one I saw on here because I'd rather not give his website the click.

Either he sucks at video games or he played BoTW with his eyes closed. There might have been a few good points but overall very eye roll inducing review.

I just spent over two hours save abusing and system clock manipulating my switch to get the Sheik mask, Hero of Time, Hero of Twilight, Hero of Wind outfits, Epona, traveler's bridle and saddle, Sword, Sea-Breeze boomerang, and other gear.

What an ordeal. Friends with amiibo are required for full nostalgia.

I wish GAF would stop give Jim Sterling free clicks. Never liked that guy. While his review is fair enough (Zelda just didn't resonate with him I guess), all his videos are just GAFs reaction blown up in motion form with the same hyperbolic comments delivered in an audible presentation, and you do not want to hear a fully grown up person spout rubbish like that.

Guys, if I haven't taken a picture of the
Beast's Bosses
, did I just miss the opportunity? Is it possible to do it?

I don't think they make a return, but you can buy photos from the assistant guy at the first Ancient lab where you upgrade your runes. There is an "Elite Enemy" section. If you take photos of all the other enemies in that category then you can reduce the pool down to just those guys left.

Did they remove the horse AI they touted? The one that misses all the trees and stuff? Because my horse keeps running into things and is a royal pain to control.

Jim just shot himself in the foot.

I don't know how much the rest of you know about internet review culture (I'm an expert), but honor and shame are huge parts of it. It's not like it is in magazine reviews where you can become successful by being an asshole. If you screw a games metacritic, you bring shame to yourself, and the only way to get rid of that shame is repentance.

What this means is the internet review public, after hearing about this, are not going to want to support Jim's pateron, nor will they purchase any of Jim's merchandise. This is HUGE. You can laugh all you want, but Jim has alienated an entire market with this move.

Jim, publicly apologize and change your Zelda BotW review for Switch or you can kiss your business goodbye.

I think you just gotta hit A and then let your horse go. Just point him to a general direction and leave the left stick alone. Hes very good about avoiding obstacles and sticking to the path this way. If you need to change directions, nudge it and then let it go again.

I've been spending more time with my horses lately and I've gotten used to it. Horseback combat in an open field is so damn dramatic. Make sure you use lock on!

This is my take too, even though I suspect it'll not be popular here.

I'm afraid to fight on horseback because I don't want my horse to die.

I will fling my horse to safety and run back to the tussle on foot.

The only part I don't really care for with Jim's review is the hording onto good weapons part.

I'm firmly among those who believe that it doesn't encourage variety so much as it discourages using most of the cool weapons you find for fear of losing them, and turns their acquisition into something unexciting, almost disappointing.

I feel that's more on you than the game. There is never any reason to hold onto anything other than more utility based weapons (korok leaf, torch) which are in plentiful supply anyway. Just like, well, everything. There's no super cool weapon (which could be a complaint of its self really) that you're going to miss having. You just have to let go and learn to love smashing your thunderbroadsword or whatever into the face of some foe, because around the corner is probably another good weapon.

also took forever to get that quote, yer sites dying jim.

Jim doesn't make money off of clicks only off patreon and his non jimquisition youtube videos.

You say this and yet, going by the rest of this post, I doubt you mean it. "Flawless record of judging other games". What a strange thing to write, what does that even mean?
It means that I can respect a 7/10 score for BotW if you're really consistent about scoring games like that. But if you score Fallout 4 a 9.5/10, Skyrim a 10/10, GTA IV an 8/10.. and then give BotW a 7, then your opinion turns into a joke to me. That's like giving Troy a 10/10 and Fellowship of the Ring a 7/10. It's an opinion that a person can have, but it makes that person completely lose all credibility in terms of being able to judge the quality of an entry into the medium.

It's an autopilot feature when you are not actively controlling where the horse veers. And higher bonding through the horse allows it to control better (soothing it when it does your command right or tries to veer off course, training it by not soothing it when it does something you didn't want it to, etc)

Well, that's a shame. In regards to the end game
Calamity Ganon requires it.
However, horses seem to have a shitload of health anyway so go for it.

Metacritic score for BOTW is now 97 with Jim Sterling's & Slant Magazine's review. Who knew two people had the power to change it. I'm slightly depressed about it TBH. I knew Jim would be the skeptical one, Escapist Zero Punctuation is probably next to make the next low score. Still regardless, I guess his review on the game is well-explained.

It's not the low scores I worried about TBH, it's how others will react to a one point decrease and how they'll use it to diss Zelda. :/

The Dream is dead Zelda is no more.
The comments that have sprung up because of this review are amazing.

Are there other quests that give heart pieces? Almost done with all shrines, and I notice I'm not going to fill that second row. Already cleared the 4 Divine Beasts.

Hey, that's no way to talk, kiddo. It's not the end of the world because Breath of the Wild isn't a 98 game, and that other games, such as the incredible Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 are objectively better. What matters is what you thought of the game. Sure, the breathtaking feeling of exploring a vast mysterious land pales in comparison to doing a 50-50 grind down Joey's Sculpture, but who cares as long as you feel the opposite? You need to rise above the opinions of others, like Rune Glifberg rises above a grounded helicopter after exploding off of a ramp and pulling off a fucking wicked Christ Air, landing perfectly and netting a double point bonus. What you need to realize is that people who clown on Zelda for being factually inferior to the magnificent THPS2 because a review aggregate website says so are as backwards as Rodney Mullen when he pulls off an incredible flatland combo from a fakie stance.

Seriously, though, it doesn't matter in the slightest. If you find yourself feeling down because of a single point difference, you could always play some BotW and remember just how good you feel about the game. Hell, you could play Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2, also. I hear that game's even better.

You can fill both rows in full and have 4 stamina circles (if you rest at Gerudo or Goron village and pay extra)
