The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild |OT2| It's 98 All Over Again

4 more shrine quests and I'll have done all 120. I know exactly what to do, they are just timed...I've given in to a bit of help on the last few open world ones since I just scoured everything and didn't want to be spending another 10 hours trawling the map again. I was missing 4 of them and the previous 5 had taken hours to find.

Almost time to move onto finding and upgrading all the armor. This game has me hooked.
 
I suggest you go around without clothes, it gets funny reactions from people. Especially the
Korok Maraks
guy.

I also just finished that thing in that snow mountain. Sublime.

This exactly. Like it's great, seriously. But the beauty of other Zelda games... you know, you start a new file and just go to it, through the world and dungeons and there's not too much baggage. Sure you could argue Twilight Princess and Skyward start slow, and they do. But that's their story. Skyward is the beginning of the entire chronology so I'm fine with the slow start. It's kind of like how I look at say Fellowship of the Ring. It's a big thing and takes its time to establish characters and world.

With BOTW, there's just so much. And that's great. But replays... I mean, there's a lot to it, a lot more than the hour or two it takes Skyward or Twilight to get going. Once those games do, and it does take a bit, I think they have better PACING than this game. You can argue that this gets started faster and it turns you loose, and it does, but you still have to do tasks to begin with and then there's hours of traveling and this and that. And over 100 shrines and 900 korok seeds.

These things aren't necessary but they're still there as a means of progression and it's nowhere near as streamlined as the others. I just don't consider it being "open world" as meaning that it gets started faster or is much more efficient. On replays there's gonna be a lot more baggage than TP or SS even with their "hand holding" or whatever, hell this game makes me feel like those won't be so bad for replays by comparison.
 
lol, Teba gives me 3 minutes to hit 5 targets when he could've asked me to break every target in the range in that time.

Infiltrating Vah Medoh was pretty cool.

Yea, they're a pain in the ass cause you constantly get frozen and then they get a free hit on you.
 
Finished it last night. I actually felt a bit flat after the ending, mostly because it was that "Oh...it's over..." feeling. But then I realised I have so much more to do in the game. Overall it's definitely up there as one of my favourite Zelda games, even one of my favourites of all time. The amount of details, nuances, tiny and large interactions between systems, is just insane. Now I feel like I can enter Zelda threads again lol.
 
Breath of the Wild is the most replayable Zelda ever and I find that hard to be debatable. The way & order you can approach the open-world and its various points of interest from any angle is unprecedented in Zelda games. I will for sure play this game again when hard mode comes around and I never did that in past games where Hero Mode was available.
 
anyone playing this on the WiiU?

Im kinda jonesing for this bad now, but I simply cannot afford a Switch, not would it even be a sensible purchase as I have no interest in any game announced so far (nope, not even mario kart or proper mario, sorry).

I do stil have my WiiU tho (assuming the gamepad works), which I havent used in like 2 years (this is starting to sound like im bashing Nintendo but thats honestly not my intention, just goes to reinforce the idea that even if I could afford a switch, its a bad pruchase for me. Hell I hadnt used my PS4 in like a year and a half outside of netflix before getting Horizon, im just not a big console player these days... anyway I digress) and I can afford just the game.

I was checking the digital foundry video and while the Ps (720 vs 900p) difference didnt really bother me, that performance hit did. Hell you guys say that even the Switch drops from 30, and in the video, the Wii U one dropped to 20 just from going down a slope :/

so any Wii U players out there want to weight in on the experience?

Yeah, I rarely replay games and I can see myself playing this on hard mode in a more story-drive streamlined approach. Head to the objectives and grab stuff along the way to bulk up but I won't be scouring the map for all the shrines again or trying for the compendium, etc.
 
Best place I've found to get minerals(4000+ in 20 minutes)
Those four tall islands connected by bridges on the eastern edge of the map.
Takes a bit of work but the payout is excellent.

Exploring the Gerudo desert sucks. It's terribly finicky.
Constantly switching armor sets between cold/heat reduction depending on time of day, no real damage reduction on any of the sets you need to use, your purchased seal mount disappearing if you go into a shrine/die.

It's so irritating.

There's a Wii U performance thread here I believe. Some people here who played on the Wii U seemed fine with the performance.

Yeah. Tingel Island and its neighboring islands as well have good spots for rare mineral drops.

You know, that's a good point regarding Hard Mode. That might actually get me to start the game over from scratch.

While the frame rate can take a dive particularly in towns or places with a lot of stuff going on it never drops enough to be unplayable. It's a minor annoyance. I'm glad I didn't wait until I bought the switch. I'm enjoying the game and look forward to the dlc hard mode play through on the switch.

Currently more excited for the hard mode and classic battle trial this summer then for the story dlc. Altho whenever footage of the story dlc appears that will change ofcourse.

Also i guess we don't have to worry for it being just hero mode that hard mode seems like the biggest selling point for the first dlc pack. Would be a shame if it is just double damage and restricted healing.

No inventory cap on armor. Only on weapons (shields, bows and melee) . And even then I would only suggest to use it at first on main weapons, then a few on bows. Shields I barely use.

I haven't seen this one posted anywhere, but I just discovered this by accident.

You can drop bombs while gliding.

You just need to have the rune selected, and while gliding jus hit L to drop a bomb directly below you, bomber style.

This opens up so many new possibilities.
 
Thanks to whoever for the snowballing tip. Took about an hour to get 10k rupees.

I wonder if nintendo will patch this to make it harder.

Dumb question. Lets say I am fighting a boss on a giant camel. Can I return to the fight later and continue exploring around and completing other tasks or would I have to redo the puzzle. Just want to explore, and gather more items as I was struggling with the battle.
 
For a game I'm still not sure how I overall feel about yet, it has provided me with one of the best impressions/simple moments in recent years.

If you're following the main story missions, the 3rd tower you come across is it. I saw it wrapped in vines and thought huh, that's a decent way to mix things up and add something to the tower climbing. So I get to the top and being the moron that I am get pulled away by my phone and manage to run myself off the tower before activating it. So, I respawn and notice the special rocks on the on the bottom of the tower around the corner. I smash it open only to then have my weapon hit the flint and cause a spark that starts a fire that then burns the vines off of the tower. My mind was absolutely blown. I continue to be amazed at the smallest of details and interactivity worked into the mechanics of the game. Everything feels so thought-out and intentionally designed.

Karioko village, hateno village, lost woods, a couple dense forests, hyrule castle, and fights with 4+ enemies have sustained dips to 20fps. Everything else is fine and runs at a stable 30fps. Theres like 4 other villages that run just fine with almost no drops, and exploring the open world is smooth. Dungeons are mostly smooth. Id say 80% of my experience has been great, which is enough to make me not regret my purchase.

My issue with the final memory:

i can't get a proper look at the picture like I could all the others. Also, I think Impa gave a hint the first time and now she won't repeat it. :( I've spent ages looking but I can't find the damn place.
 
Anyone having issues with amiibo ? I haven't scanned mine for the day, but it's giving me the "you can't use the amiibo more than once in 24 hours" message. Thing is, I didn't scan them yesterday because I got the same message. The hell is going on?

One of my favorite things about the music in this game is how they're holding back the big main theme. It's in there at moments - I think a leitmotif is the the right term? - but at the point I'm at in the game (1/4 divine beasts, and I'm guessing 40-50 hours) it's yet to make a full, bombastic appearance.

I have no knowledge of the end sequence of the game but based on the way the game has used music so far I think can say with just about 100% certainty that I know exactly when they'll deploy that huge Legend of Zelda theme and I'm fucking pumped to get there. (Eventually. After hours and hours and hours.)

I was not able to scan amiibo today until I powered down the system and restarted. I guess it was because of daylight savings. It was telling me I had already scanned them. So, if you're having that problem, power off and try again. While doing that, I found out that you can't turn on the system from powered off with the Pro controller. That sucks. You can't power off with just the Pro controller either.

When I did my first beast, I did all the puzzles and died on the boss. Exited, did some exploring, got powered up, and then went back in and went right to the boss and schooled him hard.

The dungeon will reset in regards to enemies and such, but any of the alters that you've activated will remain activated.
 
I haven't been following too closely but I am hating the gyro puzzles. I'm not sure I want to keep playing after coming across one.

To be fair, I hate all motion controls, so when something is forced I have this reaction. I should probably just have passed on the switch because I'm sure they will be in most titles.

Waterblight Ganon
. Any tips on the
ice cubes
part in the second half? I don't just wanna waste
arrows and swimming around is a HUGE hassle since Link frequently won't climb up on the platforms even when I'm right by them.
It's all really frustrating.

No shrine after the plateau is forced. If you see a motion control shrine and don't want to do it just leave. There's only like 5 or so of them in the game anyway.

cryonis can break the ice. It can also make a path across the water

Your ice rune can also be used to destroy ice cube
