highlight for me was how snowflake jontron was too PC to admit he thinks blacks have different skulls

liberal guy banging on about the primacy of economic growth was really grating

annnnnd I wouldn't have the pleasure of getting earfucked by this if wasn't for DST ruining my circadian rhythm

Anyone who was ever a fan of this guy should be feeling deeply embarrassed right now.

I'm not embarrassed that I enjoyed his content beforehand when it, and his public facing persona, were both at one point devoid of these views.

I would be embarrassed if I watched this tonight and continued watching his content and supporting him.

RIP his career indeed.

Lol guys, Jafari is a Persian name.

Also, on another account... just out of topic...

Iran is not in the Middle East but in South Central Asia, just in case you guys were wondering. Geographically this would be the only answer...

On a political note... the term "Middle East" has been overstretched and segregated in the past and as any geographic designation in a turbulent area, is subject to political will unfortunately, but why don't people do their research?

Why do most westerners bunch up so many countries in the Middle East though? Pakistan as an example is also in South Asia along with Afghanistan.

By middle East people actually mean "terrorist country" so it'll include some neighbouring countries too, they're not big into geography.

Destinys subs seem to love using the word "retard" pretty flippantly
I hope nobody thinks this is ok, even if you loathe jon jafari. Actually it is twitch so it should be expected I guess.

Well there's some hope

Same. Dude was genuinely funny to me back when I thought he was on the up and up. After this, I can't even look at the dude. I do hope he's ruined.

Really would be good to get Game Grumps out of the thread title because again, Jon Jafari hasn't been with them for nearly 4 years and the people who work at Game Grumps today would almost assuredly disagree with everything Jon Jafari said tonight.

There was some episode of Game Grumps where Jontron was talking about a gingerbread house or something and kept laughing and repeating "I just wanted to punch the nigger!" while Egoraptor just sort of half-heartedly laughed and tried to move on.

That was when I checked out, and told people I was checking out there. And there was a response of "No, he's just being cheeky, it was just poor word choice."

The bridge you have to take to get from that word choice to actual abhorrent views is not as far as people think.

Is this true?

what word choice do those people think he meant to put there

I'm sure this has been brought up before in this thread(Haven't read all 24 pages)

But Jontron hasn't been affiliated with Game Grumps for...4 years or so? It's...it's insulting to the good people at Game Grumps.

</game grumps fan>

I'm sorry if this has been mentioned >_> Just...Danny is a good person!(Not thread whining, just uh, I like Game Grumps alot and feel they don't deserve the attachment to Jon)

Well, it's a few things.

Since World War II, a popular fiction trope has been popular kids vs. nerds. Now, in pretty much all media, this thing was exaggerated. It was much more like A Separate Peace than it was swirlies and pocket protectors, but if you felt like you weren't a popular kid, you were probably a nerd who would never permeate that area where the popular kids resided.

Fast forward to the 90s, where video games are considered children's pursuits, and people who like them are nerds who lives in their parents' basements because they couldn't get jobs with their hairy palms. And these are people growing up with the same hormones as everyone else, but because of this reputation (that they no doubt also helped perpetuate by being unable to learn social skills to ingratiate themselves), they were lonely and eventually malcontent. They weren't going to show a girl Aerith's death scene, prove games were art, and get laid, and there was no Plan B.

Now the following 15-25 years became about the internet, where these people were not hanging out in clubs or at the video game store, but finding each other across state lines and oceans. And here they could share their anger about the way society has been treating them. Their hobby was under attack by people like Jack Thompson, so it made it easier to become hypersensitive and perceive Anita Sarkeesian as the exact same kind of threat. They viewed anyone asking for more representation for themselves as taking away from them, and they had so little beyond their privileged identity. They slashed at phantoms in hopes of drawing blood.

The other part of it is like that FilmCrit Hulk tweet thread said - almost all of these people, celebrity or not, has said something stupid out loud. Maybe they have done it multiple times, and it was reinforced as okay by groups A, B, and C. But then in Group D, someone took offense, or pointed out that it was stupid. Groups E - Z might feel the same way, you don't know, and you don't want to think about it. You want to convince yourself that it was just Group D, maybe some chucklefucks in other groups, but A - C are the good ones. Because these people chose to get defensive rather than introspective, they became indoctrinated into a culture war where empathy and compassion are considered flaws. They become insulated with the people that are willing to pump up their basest ideas rather than help their ideas evolve.

So you end up with...this, what gaming culture mostly is today. People who are trying to move it forward, people who are resisting that and becoming raving, racist lunatics in the process, and the frustrating middle that thinks that not taking a stance is the same as doing good.

Thanks, I'm not American and video games don't have a prominent "nerd stigma" here as it does in America.

I'd say the gaming industry contributed as well, the industry pandered to them non-stop for decades compared to other forms of media.

I actually feel really good about watching Game Grumps now (not that I felt bad before). A lot of their recent hires (Hot Pepper Gaming peeps) are very active and vocal on Twitter about their beliefs, and they posted stuff like being at the women's march, doing charities for good shit etc. And it seems to me like the core original group too are made of good, decent people.

The more time passes on, the more it feels like I understand why the initial split happened.

I brought it up the title earlier. Would really suck if game grumps get backlash from being associated with jon when they no longer seem to be. Same with normal boots.

Title originally read "of Game Grumps fame" because that's how most people know him. A mod truncated it later to add the "by nonwhites" part. If anyone wants to update the title again I welcome it, because I struggle to think of how to adequately summarize what we just listened to.

Anyone who was ever a fan of this guy should be feeling deeply embarrassed right now.

What an idiotic generalization.

Why would I feel embarrassed? How was I supposed to divine him being a piece of shit before he opened his mouth to let it be known?

They're Muslim majority and in a contiguous line. That's it.

O_O fuck... never even thought of it that way...

I guess I must be just as fucking naive about some people then. This world is a sad sad place.

Jon is so out of touch with reality it's scary.

Don't give him a platform. Unsubscribe from him on Youtube, unfollow on social media and, most importantly, let his advertising partners know why.

Stop Funding Hate has been a relatively successful campaign to stop companies advertising with publications that do the same thing.

If he wants to spread hate, let him do it off his own dollar.

"I'm pretty sure Kellyanne Conway can see the future - I think I just witnessed Destiny commit the Bowling Green Massacre"

jesus fuckin christ lol

I loved how he said that discrimination is dead while on Twitch of all places.

This is a website where any reference to black stereotypes on any video is immediately followed by a wall of black emojis.
