And he said this to a person that HAS traveled to multiple countries to be a pro-gamer. And lived in various completely different countries.

I don't get why Game Grumps is still being invoked in this thread's title. I know for a fact none of them supported the pure idiocy Jon was spouting in that debate.
Hopefully not. They don't talk politics much, but the rest of them seem very against this kind of thing. The thread title still says "(Game Grumps)" so they are getting associated with it unfortunately haha
Anyone who was ever a fan of this guy should be feeling deeply embarrassed right now.
Lol guys, Jafari is a Persian name.
Also, on another account... just out of topic...
Iran is not in the Middle East but in South Central Asia, just in case you guys were wondering. Geographically this would be the only answer...
On a political note... the term "Middle East" has been overstretched and segregated in the past and as any geographic designation in a turbulent area, is subject to political will unfortunately, but why don't people do their research?
Why do most westerners bunch up so many countries in the Middle East though? Pakistan as an example is also in South Asia along with Afghanistan.

I'm not embarrassed that I enjoyed his content beforehand when it, and his public facing persona, were both at one point devoid of these views.
I would be embarrassed if I watched this tonight and continued watching his content and supporting him.
RIP his career indeed.
I always found this literal neckbeard annoying as hell in the gifs people posted online solely on appearance
Now my dislike of him goes beyond superficial reasons I guess. What a wasteman
Anyone who was ever a fan of this guy should be feeling deeply embarrassed right now.
There was some episode of Game Grumps where Jontron was talking about a gingerbread house or something and kept laughing and repeating "I just wanted to punch the nigger!" while Egoraptor just sort of half-heartedly laughed and tried to move on.
That was when I checked out, and told people I was checking out there. And there was a response of "No, he's just being cheeky, it was just poor word choice."
The bridge you have to take to get from that word choice to actual abhorrent views is not as far as people think.
This is music to my ears. I hope more people talk about this "debate".His subreddit isn't really enthused https://www.reddit.com/r/JonTron/comments/5z3dql/jontron_is_currently_debating_the_streamer_destiny/

Well, it's a few things.
Since World War II, a popular fiction trope has been popular kids vs. nerds. Now, in pretty much all media, this thing was exaggerated. It was much more like A Separate Peace than it was swirlies and pocket protectors, but if you felt like you weren't a popular kid, you were probably a nerd who would never permeate that area where the popular kids resided.
Fast forward to the 90s, where video games are considered children's pursuits, and people who like them are nerds who lives in their parents' basements because they couldn't get jobs with their hairy palms. And these are people growing up with the same hormones as everyone else, but because of this reputation (that they no doubt also helped perpetuate by being unable to learn social skills to ingratiate themselves), they were lonely and eventually malcontent. They weren't going to show a girl Aerith's death scene, prove games were art, and get laid, and there was no Plan B.
Now the following 15-25 years became about the internet, where these people were not hanging out in clubs or at the video game store, but finding each other across state lines and oceans. And here they could share their anger about the way society has been treating them. Their hobby was under attack by people like Jack Thompson, so it made it easier to become hypersensitive and perceive Anita Sarkeesian as the exact same kind of threat. They viewed anyone asking for more representation for themselves as taking away from them, and they had so little beyond their privileged identity. They slashed at phantoms in hopes of drawing blood.
The other part of it is like that FilmCrit Hulk tweet thread said - almost all of these people, celebrity or not, has said something stupid out loud. Maybe they have done it multiple times, and it was reinforced as okay by groups A, B, and C. But then in Group D, someone took offense, or pointed out that it was stupid. Groups E - Z might feel the same way, you don't know, and you don't want to think about it. You want to convince yourself that it was just Group D, maybe some chucklefucks in other groups, but A - C are the good ones. Because these people chose to get defensive rather than introspective, they became indoctrinated into a culture war where empathy and compassion are considered flaws. They become insulated with the people that are willing to pump up their basest ideas rather than help their ideas evolve.
So you end up with...this, what gaming culture mostly is today. People who are trying to move it forward, people who are resisting that and becoming raving, racist lunatics in the process, and the frustrating middle that thinks that not taking a stance is the same as doing good.
what word choice do those people think he meant to put there
I brought it up the title earlier. Would really suck if game grumps get backlash from being associated with jon when they no longer seem to be. Same with normal boots.

By middle East people actually mean "terrorist country" so it'll include some neighbouring countries too, they're not big into geography.
I'm late to the drama, where's the Destiny and JonTron debate?
???
Iran is usually included under the "Middle East" blanket term.
