Shrine Quest: Where the heck is the
stone pillar referred to in the Ancient Rito Song quest?
I figured out what I have to do but I have no clue where to do it.

Does anyone know what horse the
monster
horse gear is referring to? I assumed it would be the
giant
horse but that can't wear any gear.

Also is it possible to find the horse that Link is riding on the amiibo anywhere?

Because you don't need to do that. That you grinded is on you. Do you absolutely need to grind for materials and rupees to pay off the Great Fairy unlocks and armor upgrades? No, not really. You could just play better in BotW. I get it, you want a safety net but it is not necessary.

You mean like how you're not really gated by rupee grinding in ALBW? You're going all over the place in your post dude.

What? That comparison is nonsense. Great Fairy unlocks are entirely missable and don't stop me from exploring anything or doing anything in the game. Items are literally used to access dungeons and proceed the game. Of course you don't need to do that but items are such a focal point of progressing the game the game encourages grinding rupees at the start so proceeding in the game doesn't become tedious. Do you get it now?

You're not going all over the place, you don't even make sense!

Does anyone else use the gyro aiming controls? Maybe I'm missing something but it seems to fuck me up aiming more than not

I love it, I'm used to it from the HD remasters and Splatoon though. I'll use the right stick to get a rough aim on the enemy, and then use the gyro to fine-tune it into a good shot.

Everything about (Northern Hyrule)
Thyphlo Ruins
was cool as fuck. Just seeing it in the environment was surreal.

It took me about 50 hours to notice that the gyro was also in play with the magnesis rune, the amount of times I must've been slightly fighting myself with stick and gamepad movements.

Not even Dragon Roost is good. The only puzzles that exist there is cross gaps with the grappling hook!

My damning with faint praise statement towards Wind Waker dungeons was always that Dragon Roost was one of the best dungeons considering it's technically the first dungeon and does a fair amount for an opener with some nice aesthetic touches like brief trips around the outside.

That's if we don't consider Forsaken Fortress the first dungeon which even when combined with its return visit is mostly naff.

pro hud? slate?

Pro hud removes the minimap and a couple of other meters/icons. Basically every UI element except for your hearts. If you want a really immersive experience, go to the options and change it there.

You'll find out about the slate very soon after starting the game.

I'm probably fucking stupid, but I'm already stuck 5 minutes after getting into Vah Ruta. I'm upstairs and I see
two wheel-thingies, one moving and one not. On the wheel that isn't moving is one of those balls that needs to rest on top of that pedestal thing. I tried Statis to force it upwards, but gravity makes it fall down again. My first thought was I have to rotate that wheel, so that the ball can rest on top of it, but that doesn't seem to be an option.

I had the same problem figuring out this dungeon, because you have to do one thing first before you can get anywhere.

Hint 1:
You can get the map without going upstairs.

Hint 2:
There is water under the door.

Hint 3:
Use an ice block to push up the map room door. You will gain access to the beast's controls afterwards.

If I were to go into the Lost Woods, what heart/stamina level should I be at before I venture in?

Went to the Faron region for the first time.

(Wii U) The jungle part is dodgy when raining but ITS SO GORGEOUS OMG kd;'lasdksl;akdas;ldks;aldqsdasdasd

Yep.

Do you have the map? If not, get the map.

If you do have the map, look very closely at the whole screen.

Play with the trunk a bit

Thanks! Seeing as the door was shut, prior Zelda games had me conditioned that I couldn't go there yet. I opened the door with
Stasis and hitting it a few times
. I have the map now and it's very doable so far. Already activated three of the five terminals, kinda fast, so I hope there's more after the five terminals?

Anyway, thanks for the kickstart, I'm getting the hell out of the OT now, lol

It looks visually amazing with the dragon on top of it. Like everything with Wind Waker, the presentation is the only saving grace!

Am l missing something or is Gerudo Highlands complete shit? l thought Hebra was the most disappointing region but at least it has shield surfing and a couple of minigames. Highlands has that dumb eighth heroine sidequest and that's it. Massive letdown.

If I were to go into the Lost Woods, what heart/stamina level should I be at before I venture in?

Any amount is fine. It's a puzzle area, not really a combat or climbing one.

You'll need more later on, but you can warp back once you've beat the main part.

93 Shrines down,
27
to go. I've completed the Zora, Goron, and Rito dungeons, I'm a little annoyed I'll need to complete the Gerudo dungeon to get the final shrine, I wanted to go into that dungeon with maxed out hearts/stamina. Oh well, the plan was always to do everything I can in the game before I take on Ganon.

I got the
Hylian
Shield last night. Though I noticed that the
Secret Shop in Tarney Town
still doesn't stock it. Does it just take awhile to show up? I'm worried I'll break it before I fight Ganon.

Found the
Dark Link
armor, cool.

There's
Dark Link
armour? Where?!

The thing I can appreciate about the "dungeons" in this game is they actually made me think instead of the usual go get item and clear easy to mild puzzles with item from dungeon.

Instead of a 20-40 minute foray you are spending 1-2 hours figuring stuff out. Feels rewarding.

And buying weapons is entirely avoidable and yet you are sticking to this nonsensical grinding argument. Why do you keep avoiding the fact that before the game tells you that you can buy weapons, it tells you to avoid dying so you won't lose them? The game only becomes tedious if you're not careful or just plain bad it.

This is funny given all the contradictions you keep on posting.

I couldn't take it anymore. The response to this game has been overwhelming and I just had to get on the train.

Just picked up my Switch + BotW and waiting to get home.

This is also my first Zelda game and Nintendo console. Can't wait to get involved.

Thanks for informing my impulse purchase GAF!

Hey that's awesome! Enjoy! My biggest tip? Try and just have a natural, organic experience. Don't worry about doing every single little thing or finding every single little secret. The star of this game is the world and I think it shines brightest when you're just kind of doing things naturally in it.

At the risk of sounding super corny...I don't think I'll ever talk shit about Nintendo again. Not that I was ever that huge of a detractor. It's just that in recent times I seem to have forgotten what made them so great to me as a kid. I mean, honestly, they do make some funky ass decisions and it drives me nuts. It's why I've held off on the Switch...for now. But this game is a masterpiece. It's restored my confidence in them. Perfect? No, it's not. But it's been a long time since I found myself this engrossed in a game. I can't wait to get home and play more and that honestly doesn't happen often these days. The scope of Hyrule is staggering. The little details scattered about. You can tell this is a labor of love. How they manage to essentially re-imagine the same fucking "legend" time after time and still make it worth playing is beyond me. Maybe there is a bit of nostalgia informing my adulation but I don't care.

Once you lose it you can purchase a replacement for
3,000 rupees.

I thought I was at around 15 hours played last night.

The activity log says 29 hours.

I put in probably another 3 last night.

This game is destroying my productivity.

I turned on Pro HUD early on, and it's refreshing how little I miss having the extra information on-screen. I find most open-world games almost impossible to enjoy without at least a mini-map, but not here. I hope that feeling bleeds back over to the other games I was playing before this (like TW3, etc.).

I've also started using the Gamepad more, just because gyro aiming is so good.

Can anyone give me a hint on where the last memory is (bottom right image)? I've checked every stable and the painter guy is not showing up anymore. Picture is way too generic to figure out.

There's
Dark Link
armour? Where?!

Kilton sells it, but I think you need to clear all dungeons before it's an option.

I haven't grinded/sold excessively for pure rupees and I'm nearing the 10k mark just from exploring and doing side quests. It's fun.

Is that the one that's just a generic looking trail with some trees and no noticeable landmarks? I believe it's
on the west side of Hyrule River, not far from a stable.

Twilight Princess had Snowpeak, where you progressive opened up the dungeon by interacting with the yeti couple. Then there was the ruins level where you went through backwards and forwards with the automated statue. And city in the sky was some Spiderman shit. All 3 were phenomenal.

Skyward Sword had the Skyloft dungeon that was a meta block puzzle over all the room puzzles. It also had the timeship with the central time cube mechanic.

Wind Waker had the last two dungeons as buddy dungeons, where you had to coordinate your partner's ability to make it through.

These games all had really excellent, clever, memorable, and original dungeons. All seven I listed are probably better than the Divine Beasts.
LOL Snowpeak is one of the worst designed dungeons. The yetis are removed from the world. The dungeon is reached by a snowboarding minigame. The dungeon item is a ball to break ice which doesn't allow for clever puzzles.

The only thing I miss from switching to the Por HUD is the weather forecast. Rain is obviously a huge problem and it seems like the only solution to deal with it is "see that it's coming, make a fire, and wait it out". Oh wait, Pro HUD means I can't see it coming.

Big oversight there.

What, that's one of the most loved dungeons of all time, it's amazing. Snowboarding mini game is totallly awesome, variety is key. The dungeon item is pretty damn unique to zelda and used not just for puzzles but unique new enemies as well. Moving cannon ball to and from gated rooms. Oh the giant puzzle chambers where you are moving the blocks. The amazing theme of it looking like a house. The great epic boss battle. All better than any one beast or lead up to a beast in this game.

Weather is way better without the HUD. You have to listen for it, watch it in the distance. Pay attention to the way the storm clouds move. Climbing a mountain to see a lightning storm rage in the distance is so damn cool. If you miss its approach and find yourself exposed, and you don't want to wait it out, find cover. Be resourceful. Pro HUD forces you to really let your toes sink into the mud, and live in the world.

i think youre in the minority. its a favored temple

Anyone still looking for the best way to grind Rupees, I'm pretty sure the fastest/most efficient way atm is the Snow Bowling mini game. Even if you fail, you still make back your initial investment if done properly, and the loop is so much faster than the gambling hall. No need to save and reload over and over and the guy only has 2 lines of text between each attempt.

Found a shrine surrounded by an ice cold lake, under this snow covered hill. Have no idea how to get to it. I've tried making ice blocks to jump between but since there's such a low overhang I can't get close enough and die real quick if I enter the water.

I completed the main quest line last night and thoroughly enjoyed every minute of the 55 hours it took me (well, except for that
damn ball rolling puzzle
). It's easily the best game I've played this generation and ranks among my favorite games of all time. I haven't felt this strongly about a game in a really long time. And I'm not done playing by a long shot, there's still so much more left to do.

congrats! few tips:

turn on pro hud straightaway
play smart, don't just go thru the motions - especially battle
follow the main quest till you fully unlock your slate
go nuts

dude this is terrible advice.

Advice I would give to a first-timer: loot everything & don't be afraid to run away.

Well finally got the real Epona and Twilight Tunic:P

Enough Amiibo's for now.
Time to find all shrines!
Then do side quests ans find koroks 900 lol:/

Dying/getting a game over is the most central mechanic of almost every game in existence, no matter easy or hard. Holy shit, what are you even trying to discuss here! Either you say this is the easiest game ever made and dying is not possible or it is a tedious mechanic. You will most likely die like in every game ever made and you will have to back get your item and waste time. And I have to do it because otherwise I cannot proceed. And yes, maybe I like to try things out and die in a maybe even in a silly way! They could have made it so I could have rented weapons not at a stationary point of the game, but no, I have to go back to that house and rent shit again and go back to the dungeon!

And anyway, I'm not sure why you're so hung up on this point other than failing to find a flaw in my argument. It's not like I honestly think the rental system needs tweaking and is a good system otherwise, no, it's bad system that makes turns dungeon design into baby difficulty! It's literally besides the point.

And which contradictions again? You just spout statement after statement without any meaning.
