Wow

waterblight gannon was pretty easy, easier than the lynel I fought when collecting shock arrows.

I was able to collect way more shock arrows just traveling and exploring than doing that...but I went up there afterwards and killed it anyway just for good measure.

i don't like voice acting across the board. everything feels. recorded. out of. context, and half of the recorded lines for each of the blessed characters are variants on the exact same phrases said by other voiced characters.

this game is stunning -- I've spent more time with this than any game in recent memory -- but I really think they dropped the ball on that one.

I find the German voice acting especially serviceable. With the exception of Impa. That is an atrociously bad attempt at voicing a granny. Poor choice of voice actor.

What I find more problematic is the writing. It's very "Animuh" and therefore sounds pretty artificial in terms of representing how and what one would expect characters to say in their respective situations.

Let's just say that Naughty Dog doesn't have to worry getting competition in how ingame characters are written, voiced and animated anytime soon. And Pixar or DreamWorks could make a workshop for Nintendo in how-to-make-animated-characters-feel-believable.

Can anybody just confirm that it is possible to explore the regions on the very, very edge of the west and on the north? So far I had no luck reaching those cliffs - there is a constant wind that pushes you away. I still wanna figure it out, so basically: is it possible, yes or no?

When I touched the wall there I got a msg telling me I couldn't go any further.

The only dungeon in the game is
Hyrule Castle
.

Eh I consider divine beasts to be dungeons

I've only done one (Vah Ruta), and I love the concept of the Divine Beasts, and the interior is also wonderful, but I do have one (huge) point of criticism. THEY'RE WAY TOO DAMN SHORT. They're also pretty easy. I cleared Vah Ruta in, like, thirty minutes or so.

I sure hope the other three Divine Beasts are significantly longer and more challenging, but I honestly doubt it. Such a shame, because BOTW is shaping up to be otherwise a sheer perfect game.
Yeah they're short af and easier than shrines, might as well be bigger shrines

The voice acting is not the only problem. The script is poor. Nonspecific NPC dialogue can be quite good. But what's spoken during cutscenes is purple and long winded. Maybe some scenes fare better than others. Everything I've seen so far has had the distinct flavor of artificiality.

I don't understand the gimmick of Lost Woods this time. I see no visual or audio cues hinting at the way forward. At first I thought it might be to d9 with following animals but in this section no animals are spawning so I dunno.

There are two sections to getting through the Lost Wood. Both can be resolved visually. When you get through the first part, pick up and use the item there.

I beaat the game with like 7 hearts and a lvl 2 knight armor. Lynels could 1hko me but the final boss could not.

I think up to a certain heart count, the Ganons are scripted to always do enough damage to bring you down to 1/4 heart from max hp, with some exceptions (lasers still do their usual damage). Even if you use temporary hp items, the damage readjusts to still bring you down to 1/4 heart. I guess they wanted to make it slightly less brutal for people heading to Ganon early.

I just beat the game. That was certainly a contender for the worst final boss in the series.

Completion rate stuff.

Shrines: 120/120
Korok Seeds: 400/900
Map Completion Rate: 57.07%
Compendium: Completed
Side Quests Completed: 66/76
Shrine Quests Completed: 41/42 (How? I have all the shrines.)

I remember once talking to an NPC, and immediately getting a new shrine quest and telling me it was complete, since I already did the shrine.

That's probably it. For some reason I just assumed that you couldn't access shrine quest shrines until you had the quest.

Excellent news, thank you!

Something else I wanted to ask, I've been avoiding spoilers like the plague and am about 20hrs in without even tackling
the first dungeon
. In fact I've only just checked the quest log and realised I need to visit
Hatona Village
so that's where I'm headed next. However after just realising I can
shield surf
I can't shake the feeling perhaps I'm missing other features; without spoiling anything is there something I may be missing?

Do you know about bullet time?

If you draw your bow in the air you go into bullet time kinda, everything is in slow mo but your arrows still go at normal speeds. Super useful for hitting weak spots.

horses control like shit because you have to tame them before they work well, that's a mechanic
Not true. Even with a 100% bonded, gentle temperamental horse, the riding mechanics are pretty awful. The auto-follow road mechanic works, but the auto turns seem to cause conflict in its directions when navigating around roads. The turning ability, or lack thereof, means the horses often are incapable of navigating the narrow flat surfaces between steep rock faces, and still end up running into trees.

This is the case with Epona, the White Royal Horse, and even the
Lord of the Mountain
.

About the Abandoned North Mine (near Goron City): how do you
save the guy (whom I presume is Yunobo) who's stuck in that vault covered by rocks I can't destroy with regular bombs
? My first logical thought was to use those boss cannons, but there isn't a cannon aimed properly at the rocks, and I also don't seem to be able to change the direction the cannons are facing.

Any hints? (without downright saying the answers, preferably)

Hint: You can fire a canon while it's rotating.

I don't know how to rotate them though, that's the thing. Otherwise I could rotate it to face the entrance blocked by the rocks, which was my initial thought. I tried pushing it, seeing if there's a prompt, moving it with bombs, bomb arrows (hard lesson), Stasis and Magnus don't work, etc. Unless there's a main operation system in the area that I haven't found...

All canons have a big lever you can smack in the center.

There's a lever near the cannon you need a weapon for that.

Took me forever to figure this out too.

Hit that switch with a weapon.

I tried magnesis, stasis, etc. Just hit it.

I also found out the thirst is real for Kass too. Need to stay away from Tumblr for a while..

I'm surprised that this game's Lynels have been so ignored in comparison.

Given their similarities to Demise and HW Ganon, I'd have thought they'd amass more fans.

You have to "trigger" the shrine quest by talking to whatever NPC starts it. That happened to me with one in the Gerudo Desert. I had already found and completed the shrine but when I talked to an NPC in Gerudo Town the quest popped up and then immediately "finished" afterwards. The game doesn't trigger Shrine Quests with the shrines themselves.

Yet something tells me the list of all the things they do amazingly right will be multitudes longer than this list, hence the score.

Of course it's multitudes longer! Like I said, I think this game is incredible! But there's quite a few things that I just can't write off and hamper my experience, hence why I can't understand the 97 Metacritic rating and plenty of reviews not mentioning the stuff I get annoyed by.

Yeah. I know. Like I said, I did. And still my dear Snowflake controls poorly.

How far are you in this game? Most the side quests are not like this at all.

About 30 hrs in and almost all of them are fetch quests. Basically, I don't agree.

Horses control like crap in this game regardless of whether they're newly found or fully trained. I've seriously only used a horse for maybe 10 minutes total of my around 50 hour playthrough so far. They're rendered almost completely useless by the fact that there is so much vertical exploration in this game. One little somewhat steep incline and they do a full stop and refuse to move.

I'll stick with the paraglider and fast travel.

I did, but only after doing it accidentally yesterday! Made fighting my first
Stone Talus
a lot easier!

Exploring the ground after climbing mountains to get to the towers now. Man, there's a lot of stuff down here!

Also if you leave your horse in the middle of nowhere, can you teleport it back to a stable?

Mihpa sounds like Luna Lovegood.

They should have hired actual British actors.

...

Oh, is that what they were supposed to sound like? British people?
I guess maybe that's a bad impression of what Americans think British people sound like?

Not to go full skypunch but... I think they should have gotten the EU team from xenoblade to do the English localisation, if that was the intent. They clearly missed the mark.

As long as it has been registered at any stable beforehand, yes, you can teleport it to a stable at the front desk.
