The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild |OT2| It's 98 All Over Again

Yep. Some of the shrines really stood out for me because of this exact feeling. I just did the one with the
cube that you had to spin around to light all of the torches
, but instead of dealing with that nonsense, I
made a campfire and shot flaming arrows at the torches and solved it that way
. Any other Zelda game would've said "Nope, can't do it that way" but here the game really rewards you for thinking outside of the box.

...That...that would have made that shrine a lot easier on my psych. Fuck, I can't believe I didn't think of that and broke two weapons doing it with the stupid cube. :( These shrines continue to impress with the multiple ways you can solve them.

Also I just hit my first shrine that actually had KEYS in it. I was like whaaaaaaa. Very pleased to go through a larger shrine.

I almost completely destroyed my entire weapon inventory trying to do a stupid golf-like shrine involving stasis last night. :(

Also, do giant energy cores serve any purpose or should I just sell them?

I had to check gamefaqs to win the extra chest.

I think a npc will craft weapons/armor with those

Ah okay. I thought the game was trying to give me hints that I needed to give the guards bananas or use my torch to burn down walls. The latter is what led me to the golden rupees though. I was way off. Thanks for the tips guys!

If it makes you feel better, I was stuck in that room for at least a half hour until i figured it out.
I've found that in this game, if all else fails, try every Slate ability.

I completely agree, and I'd go a step further and say that the puzzles in this game put "traditional" Zelda dungeon puzzles to shame. BotW puzzles aren't just puzzles, but problems you must solve. And when you solve them with your own tools, it makes you feel smart. Old Zelda mostly features puzzles with a single predetermined solution that does not involve solving a problem, but rather trying to figure out what the designer was thinking when he created it. I never feel smart when solving a puzzle like that, I only feel like I jumped through the hoops that were laid out for me.

That's solving a problem yo. Besides a few sideways solutions to some of the shrines, you solved those puzzles in the ways the developers intended as well. I love BotW but can we not destroy language to make a point please?

I broke every weapon I had fighting the guardian in the test of strength thing and only got it down to half health, and then he one shot me anyway.. Guess I'm not ready for this one yet..

I'm glad I really enjoy exploring for explorations sake. Because some of the rewards you get in this game can be pitiful due to the open ended nature of the game. Eventide islands reward isn't so good when you already have a crap ton of rupees. Luckily, the island itself was a lot of fun and I can ignore the chest reward entirely.
The island isn't about the reward. It breaks the games current progression to force you to use your resources and think on your feet. If you come there with a lot of upgrades, you are rewarded easily by your knowledge of how the game works. Go there early on, and you are forced to think outside of normal game mechanics. After visiting this island you should be well experienced in the games mechanics and resources.

What equipment do you guys recommend I have in order to fight the final boss? I currently have 13 hearts and the master sword along with all four divine beasts and their powers. Is there anything I'm missing that'll make this fight easier?

How about the
Hylian Shield?

Yeah those test of strengths can be a real PITA.

At least until you can use the upgraded stasis rune - they're much easier to aim for than other enemy types, and their charging beam attacks at low health turn into easy opportunities to get in large amounts of damage.

Nope. Let that one pass for now. Come back later when you've upped your hearts and found much better weapons and shields. The nice thing is that you can teleport to unfinished shrines as well as long as you activated them.

Man, these shrine quests take forever. I wouldn't mind that much, as they're pretty varied, but the rewards just suck. I'm glad I can enjoy the journey more than the destination for them, so to speak. I think it's just that a silver rupee or a copy of a weapon I've had for 20 hours just doesn't do it for me. Also, after about 60 shrines, the last half of them are really tough to find.

Does anyone have a guide or map picture with locations of good respawnable weapons yet? I know one will eventually exist, and will be handy. I know of a few good spots that have stuff that I've been marking, but I'm really looking for a respawn-able location with
ice and thunder swords/spears/greatswords
, if anyone knows of any.

Eventide Island is awesome.

Lynels are badass and super-fun to fight. Feels super-satisfying to nail a flurry rush against them when they are up in my face. Luckily their close attacks are well-telegraphed. Still v rough fights for me, though, and drain my resources quite a bit.

Just finished the
Shrouded Shrine.
So glad I went into it blind (har har) without being spoiled. Was silly fun.

You're more than good. Practice that dodging mechanic that slows down time.

One more thing you might want....big spoiler but helpful.
Make sure you have a good horse. Not some garbage one you got at the start of the game.

I had a
giant horse
for the battle, which
has zero acceleration and it still went fine. Any horse will do I think.

I beat the Thunder Plains quest. Everything about that was great.
The shock of being stopped suddenly by a voice, the constant thunderstorm, having to think about how you've got to get the balls in the right place (I mostly used stasis, but I'm curious if people found other solutions), and while the shrine was fairly easy, there were a few "Aha!" moments like taking the big metal crate to just push the treasure chest off the pillar, and having to to a 180 with the box to toss it onto the button. You also get a unique piece of armor. Though the coolest part was seeing the sunny weather after stepping out.

I just used actual lightning bolts to strike me and launch the balls onto the central platform.

Yea, for me, most of the game is just about the general exploration as a reward. But I was more referring to the actual reward that was included, which wasn't very good.

Like, I would have no qualms if it didn't give me anything but the Shrine Orb. But putting a cool looking chest only for it to turn out to be a meager amount of rupees... meh.

I am finding Zelda has seeped into my subconscious. When I opened the bathroom closet the other day I imagined for a moment various toiletries sparkling and that if I picked them up they'd come with a description. Also, we were watching a cooking TV show and people were looking over a balcony and I was thinking "just jump, it's not that far, you can use your paraglider!")

Anyone else having anything similar happen to them?

So I just did my first shrine that required me to use motion controls and...what the actual fuck? What a terrible implementation (playing on the WiiU gamepad btw). I absolutely hate when I know how to do a thing but can't because the controls just won't let me. Fuck this shit. Hope there isn't too much more of this because I've been enjoying the game up to this point.

RT if you cry every time.

Where is this in-game?
Haven't been there, but I imagine it would be the "ranch ruins" in the middle part of the map. You can see the name when you activate the tower in the Hyrule castle area.
I really don't like that. Major landmarks (like the Temple of Time) being remade over the years makes sense. A dinky little ranch does not. And there is definitely no way Lon Lon Ranch has been standing for over 10,000 years.
Why does it have to be 10,000 years? This clarified in the story?

I would think it's been standing until the Guardians started rampaging. Why would the royal family leave the remains of a dinky little ranch so close to the castle?

So, how many (mythical creature spoiler)
dragons
are there actually in the game?
Sometimes I'm not sure if I tracked down the same one I had in mind or a completely different one. So far, I've counted 3.
And can you track down every single one over and over again, because I think I'm only seeing two now. The other one kind of disappeared after opening a certain shrine quest?

It's
"obviously" three (courage, power, wisdom) but also the elements (ice, fire, lightning).
There are all still here, nobody disappears ;) Met
the ice one in the fjord north of Lanayru mountain yesterday

So I got the
giant horse
and I thought people said it had
unlimited stamina
. Too me it looks like it has none.

Animal spoilers.

You don't really need it.

Make an updraft with fire

About to head to
goron country
, but the heat is too intense, even setting things on fire. I've already got the
gerudo women's clothing
but apparently that's not enough. Do I just have to cook something to power through it, or is there better clothing I can buy somewhere else, like with the cold? (at least I never seem bothered by it anymore)

Lon Lon Milk is just that good. Who else is making milk? They are like the Whole Foods of Hyrule.

There's a merchant at Foothill Stable that sells a certain Elixir that will make you immune to the fire air.

Also, there's a sidequest on the way up the mountain that will help.
