I am finding Zelda has seeped into my subconscious. When I opened the bathroom closet the other day I imagined for a moment various toiletries sparkling and that if I picked them up they'd come with a description. Also, we were watching a cooking TV show and people were looking over a balcony and I was thinking "just jump, it's not that far, you can use your paraglider!")

Anyone else having anything similar happen to them?

On a walk I stumbled upon two big blue doors that guarded the entrance of an old fortress, and I caught myself thinking "just use magnesis to open them!"

I had a hearty laugh.

So I just did my first shrine that required me to use motion controls and...what the actual fuck? What a terrible implementation (playing on the WiiU gamepad btw). I absolutely hate when I know how to do a thing but can't because the controls just won't let me. Fuck this shit. Hope there isn't too much more of this because I've been enjoying the game up to this point.

Turn your gamepad around.

Man, really liked the dungeoun I played, but super disappointed about this aspect of dungeons
game-breaking rewards. Basically they give you a cheat code. I only have Mipha's Grace, dont know about the others, but I heard at least some arent any better. But Miphas mostly makes cooking and armor, etc kinda pointless. When I first got it, I was expecting it to have sort of Caveat but it actually gives additional heart bonuses on revive, really removes any difficulty or consequence to a fight or doing anything. Why did they think this was good? I now know you can disable it, but I shouldn't have to go out of my way to make the game challenging again, and play it in the designers unintended way, since its on by default, and never really explained to the player that it can be disabled. Had to do some digging to find that option. Wish they didn't have these rewards at all.

I'm surprised that this game's Lynels have been so ignored in comparison.

Given their similarities to Demise and HW Ganon, I'd have thought they'd amass more fans.

It's probably because most people avoid confrontations with them so many dont even know what they're called or what they look like :P

Lynels could have been boss characters in past Zelda games. I love their design.

Oh well kass is a qt ;)

Kass is pretty awesome. Always nice when you go somewhere remote and he just happens to be there playing his amazing theme.

Honestly, even with around 11 hearts, I've had to use elixers and food with
Mipha's Grace
. Plus it takes 30 minutes to recharge so once its used, you'll have to rely on your food and elixers again.

Joining in on the weapon location requests, anyone know where to find a plain-ass Moblin Club? All my Moblins are carrying better versions of that thing at this point.

Holy shit, you guys weren't joking. This really is in the game lol.

Try checking on the north or eastern areas just outside of the Great Plateau for some low level Moblins.

I keep thinking any cracked surface or wall has a secret on the other side. I've been conditioned to think like that since OoT haha.

That's solving a problem yo. Besides a few sideways solutions to some of the shrines, you solved those puzzles in the ways the developers intended as well. I love BotW but can we not destroy language to make a point please?

Sorry, no. You might consider mind reading to be problem solving, and maybe you could even make some kind of case that it is, but it's not the same thing.

Anyone mind telling me where I can get a regular fire rod? An easy one to get, I mean. Need it for a side quest.

Near the Rota Ooh Shrine, the shrine closest to the Coliseum Ruins. Look near the big tree on the hill behind the shrine for a fire wizard.

Go in the menu and turn it off. Then set all your fairies free

Question about the final boss:
Is there another way to damage Calamity Ganon during the final third other than bouncing his lazers back with a shield parry? I would LOVE to know for my "completionist" completion since he was ruining me the first time.

I really don't care for exploring the Hebra/snowy regions tbh. Snow making you move slower, rarely being able to see properly, it's just not that fun. I'm gonna go do
Lanayru Mountain
then head for hotter climates.

Ah so there is a caveat. I only used it once so far and then foind it could be disabled, but didnt see any indication of a recharge, nor is there any mention of that in the description. Well that makes a bit more sense thrn if thats the case.

flurry rush. When he attacks the invulnerability drops but you can only take advantage of it with a perfect dodge.

That feeling when you're trying to get to a shrine on top of a mountain but the weather forecast is all thunderstorms as far as you can see...

Fml

I completely agree, and I'd go a step further and say that the puzzles in this game put "traditional" Zelda dungeon puzzles to shame. BotW puzzles aren't just puzzles, but problems you must solve. And when you solve them with your own tools, it makes you feel smart. Old Zelda mostly features puzzles with a single predetermined solution that does not involve solving a problem, but rather trying to figure out what the designer was thinking when he created it. I never feel smart when solving a puzzle like that, I only feel like I jumped through the hoops that were laid out for me.

Exactly how I feel. Everything feels more organic in that not everyone will approach the same situations in the same way. Some people may look at my solution and feel that I cheated to get the answer, but I used the tools given to me in a creative way and in turn feel like I've outsmarted the designer.

The solution to the problem is way more valuable than the actual treasure that you receive because you walk away with the knowledge that you can figure out how to get past a problem thinking your own way, as opposed to trying to figure out what someone else was thinking when they created the puzzle.

Gerudo champion's skill will break his invincibility as well.

Got to try it out on my friend's switch last night. Besides the uncomfortable joy con joysticks (I'll definitely try with classic controller). This felt (and looked) like nintendo's swan song to gravity rush... similar art style, similar mechanics, and even similar combat. It seems like a fun launch game. I need to give it another go but first impressions this feels like nintendo's vita 2.0 with Legend of Gravity Rush: The Breath of Cat...

Wow. Just got to Akkala Labs and have access to
ancient arrows. One-shotted one of those flying patrol robots with 1500hp.
Time to start farming.

Heh, enemies can pick up those shrine orbs and fling them at you. I had to carry one across a long distance and I ran into a bunch of Lizalfos. As I dropped the ball to fight them, one of them came up and threw the orb at me. Thought it was cute lol

Just beat the game! The final boss didn't give me any real trouble, even though I only did like 32 shrines. The toughest main story boss was definitely
Thunderblight Ganon
, what a bother that was. I'll definitely come back to the game to finish some of the side stuff I didn't do, but for now it's on to Horizon. Curious to see how the two games compare.

Anyway, is there some way to see your total playtime for the game on the Switch?

I don't really see how it's game-breaking. In a difficult fight, it'll save your butt once, but after then it's the same as before. Since its locked down by a pretty lengthy timer, it's not really possible to abuse it either. In the end it's not much more than a
very powerful fairy
.

Yup. Its designed to help you out in a pinch but you can't solely rely on it.

Parental Controls app or check your Switch profile if you've been playing for more than 10 days.

Same thing happened to me with the
ice cube that you have to run through the desert
form the Gerudo quest. Dude picked it up and I was like, "Don't you dare!"

I have a similar story, but in my case I was about to lose one those down a cliff, but luckily an enemy either batted it or kicked it over to me just it was about to roll down hill.

I left that one enemy live as thanks.

15 or so hours in and I expected a charming, hand holding Zelda experience coming into this game and what I got was an incredibly well thought out experience that is both very challenging and very rewarding. This turned out to be a very mature game that's been kicking my ass every play-through. Admittedly I haven't finished a Zelda since Links Awakening so maybe I missed out on how this series matured but the variety in this masterpiece is second to none and I've only scratched the surface. Just brilliant, I've truly missed out on Nintendo games since the Gamecube, huh?

On a walk I stumbled upon two big blue doors that guarded the entrance of an old fortress, and I caught myself thinking "just use magnesis to open them!"

I saw a pigeon while walking my daughter to school the other day and I genuinely imagined firing an arrow into it and debated possible recipes.

Like everything else in Zelda: BotW, there's an item to help with that. At least with the movement speed. Keep exploring :)

Are ancient arrows the same thing as guardian arrows? I found a few of those pretty early but lost them missing a flying guardian.

My son is 20 months old. I don't play games while I'm taking care of him, so my only time for Zelda is an hour or two a couple nights a week, after I put him to bed (though I have stayed up longer a few nights—and regretted it the next day). I wish he could experience this with me. I feel with BotW the same kind of breezy freedom and sense of wonder that I felt playing A Link to the Past, when I was very young. I want him to have that. This is the punch of awe that makes me sit up, and want to go out and explore the world. Miyamoto once said he came up with the idea of Zelda while exploring caves in his youth. Through these games, he has inspired me to maintain that youthful hunt for mystery, and I want to pass that on, too.

These guys are evolving. I thought it was just rocks but they chuck whatever they can find at you.

I havent gotten that quest yet. How do you start it?

He just wanted to play some soccer.

Oh I should find a group of Bokoblins and a roll a bomb around with them. Super Zelda Strikers lets go.

Lol, if you think the game will be easy now that you have that ability...honey, you've got a big storm coming.
