The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild |OT2| It's 98 All Over Again

I love the game, but I can understand comments on "the veil", I'd definitely say the feeling of being on the Great Plateau and seeing the entire world ready to be explored was almost the high point of the game. Ok, that sounds a bit much, because I think this is a 10/10 game, but it's undeniable mystery goes away once you've filled in the map, the compendium, etc. That's just inevitable, not much you can do about it but remember that initial feeling. Nothing to hold against it.

it makes sense, one of the game's main hooks is the sense of discovery and wonder

that's why it makes such an impactful impression during the first 10-20 hours on most people

Following this stupid Karok is the worst quest in the game.

I'll come back when I have had 5 kids to develop that sort of patience.

Pro Tip: Use your sneaking gear and constantly stay in the Stasis or Magnetism overlay to see the fucker better. Whoever thought to make this korok in a color that blends in perfectly with the fog and grass is an idiot.

Link, this is a sneaking mission

Poor little Korok. And he's so proud of his journey.

I failed once. It's not so much about watching him. It's about "hey listen" as he pipes up every now and then.

Serious end game spoilers

So in the calamity Ganon fight when he takes his second form Zelda says he has given up on reincarnation and entered a pure enraged form.

Does this mean Ganon is done for good after this point in the time line? Like he put all his power on the line this time and reverted to a demise like form and we destroyed his very essence?

Zelda character spoilers:

Having unlocked some (but not all) of the memories now, I really like what they're doing with Zelda here. Zero Punctuation described her as an insecure nerd in way over her head, and I don't think that's a completely inaccurate description.

I appreciate that Zelda doesn't really have much in the way of confidence in this game. Nor does she seem to have really accepted the role that has been placed upon her - and it's not without reason either. She plays the part but doesn't own it like previous incarnations, which is interesting to see.

I also like how this in turn affects her dynamic with Link. In a way she's projecting her self-doubt on to him, and that she doesn't seem to be immediately taken with Link is refreshing. Hell, there even seems to be a degree of resentment there - he succeeds while she is struggling.

I dunno, I just find myself sympathising with this Zelda a fair bit. Considering how standard the overall narrative is, I'm happy that they're changing up some of the smaller aspects.

No.

She meant that he has given up on reincarnating at the moment. Zelda even mentions that Ganon will one day return during the ending.

I genuinely don't know how you were "supposed" to do that one. The workarounds were the obvious solutions so the ideal solution bypassed me.

It's pretty simple really if you don't use Stasis.

Use the iron boxes to block two fans. Carry the ball to the fan closest to the rising platform, let it go, and the fans (if you blocked the two that would push it off-course) will push the ball into the hole while you wait on the platform.

I can personally attest that no more than 2 kids are necessary, since that's all I have.

I keep seeing negative comments about this trial, so I was really dreading it. But I finished it just a couple hours ago on my first try, 5 minutes and done. lol. I didn't think it was that bad, I just made sure to crouch constantly and keep a fair distance from the little guy's speech bubble.

It's just a pet peeve of mine. I avoid GTA now even purely on the basis of tailing missions. It's one of the most boring missions designs possible in gaming.

What's the deal with the
moving platforms
in the centre of Van Medoh (the flying great beast).

As far as I can tell they don't serve any distinct purpose...?

Between waiting for the screen protector to arrive and wrapping up some lingering stuff in the backlog, I've been late to the party to this. I finally managed to properly start sinking my teeth into this game. I'm loving switching it between docked and handheld mode.

But, running around calmly in The Great Plateau while in bed in handheld mode has been so god damn chill so far.

Two more shrines or one respec and I can
pull the Master Sword, even though I haven't found it yet.

I think my goals tonight are to do the shrines, do what I spoilered above, and find another memory or two. Oh, and maybe do some bowling to get enough rupees to get some armor. Shit's expensive yo.

yall werent kidding about
Ganon
being underwhelming if you've done everything else.

I had a tougher and more exciting battles against the White Lynels.

Final boss should have just been

"We meet again Link. 'Tis I. 100 WHITE LYNELS AT THE SAME TIME-ANDORF, YES THAT'S MY NAME"

I don't think his criticisms are misplaced, I particularly agree with framerate complaints, but it's hard not to resort to that meme given the length of time people spend playing and enjoying the game, only to become so familiar with it that the game mechanics and systems are revealed as mere artifices -- Of course the veil lifts eventually, as it does with every open world game, but that shouldn't retroactively negatively colour your entire view of the game. Those first dozens of incredible hours should count for something.
The first few hours are amazing, no doubt. But after that, it's another 50 hours of gameplay where you are doing the same things that you did in the first 10 hours. That isn't just the allure of the open world level wearing off, its that the game design isn't interesting enough to sustain itself for the whole game. Part of the enjoyment I got from the first few hours is thinking "wow, there's so much unique stuff in the world, I can't believe they managed to fill up a whole world like this", and then I kept playing and figured out that there wasn't much else to do. That kind of ruins the appreciation I had for the beginning of the game.

Man....

getting to the Rito divine beast was underwhelming. Zora and Goron had some fun stuff going on but Rito's just lke BOOM here you go dungeon time. Eek. Hopefully Gerudo will be better in this sense.

Not really...

Zora had the way up, then the Lynel thing at least. Goron had that fun mine segment. Rito had...shoot five targets?

I think they mean the
gerudo
one is like the other 2. but I agree on
rito one being boring af. there was no build up. Literally just find the guy and he's like get ready and takes you up. and like the village doesn't even care smh. After saving the zoras from medoh they throw you a party and everyone in town shows up. When you finish rito one you just speak to the owl elder and he's like "o thanks"

I've only done those 2 so far though so hopefully the next ones are better.

Ah I misunderstood then haha (long day for me). Good to hear that one is similar at least.

Get two stamina upgrades then go ham on hearts until you get to 13. At which point max out on stamina.

Three stamina upgrades IMO. Makes climbs way less stressful. You still have to find rest spots but you don't get put in pinches as often.

Lol I did that shrine completely wrong

The bravery's grasp challenge where you were suppose to
dislodge the laser, put it on the moving platform to have it move the platforms for you
instead I
placed a remote bomb on the far side, placed a round bomb on near side, glided to the chest, arrowed my way up, flew as far as I could, bombed the switch twice to victory

I tried to do it that way too for the longest time and it was just fucked and I finally realized I could do the "right" solution lol.

Probably been posted already, but....holy shit (possible location/callback spoiler)

I disagree completely.
Ganon was ruining me during the final third of his first form and it was only by getting lucky with a flurry rush or having Daruk's Protection do the lifting for me. I finally realized–as an epic killshot no less–that you can shield parry his lasers.

Yooooooo that's how I did it lol, never knew the intended way, cept' no arrowing.

Please tell me there's some way to trigger a voiced "thank you" line; I'm starting to lose hope. I like everything else they've done with him here, but that's a glaring omission.

This makes breath of the wild a trash game tbh. I can't believe I haven't heard a single "thank you" from Beedle yet. he still said it in skyward sword

and ok, I also miss his theme. I could have gone for a nice piano arrangement

Eventually when you're loaded and have nothing to spend your Rupees on, just warp to stables periodically and buy all the arrows from Beedle.
Don't do this, he overcharges. Just go to each town and buy them.
Karikaro
has fire,
hateno
has bomb,
zora
has ice and
lurelin
has shock.

Wow Robbies story was pretty interesting. I love
how he names so many locations during his travels. It makes Hyrule feel like a real place with rivers, mountains, passes, settlements and so on. I also wasnt expecting the wife being jealous of the computer either and I really enjoyed that surprise.

The NPCs in this game have some great stories. I'd love to see younger
Impa, Purah and Robbie doing their thing during the Calamity War.

Probably been posted already, but....holy shit (possible location/callback spoiler)

This made me really sad :(

Hopefully Nintendo will bring back
Darknuts, ReDeads and Poes
.

I loved the
Darknuts
in Twilight Princess. They were really fun to fight.
