It says a lot about the underlying gameplay, RPG systems, and characters that I'm enjoying the game as much as I am despite a truly astounding wealth of bugs and animation glitches. 35 hours logged so far, en route to Monday's review.
Yeah. This is hyperbolic.
This game is like something I'd buy off a food truck

They do. But you get it from a website, I think. Didn't see an option to download a code in the game.ill hope they got code system like they did old mass effect cos i want use this one.
I'm not sure how to interpret that.
How? Basic as fuck character creation and multiplayer that barely works. The animations are beyond garbage and within an hour of the trial going live there were gifs and videos making fun of it. The writing looks like the stuff you would find on the bioware forums back in the day.
Sorry if I expect better from a 20 year old AAA developer on their 4th entry of their flagship franchise.
This game feels like an early access product I bought off Steam where a bunch of diehard fans got tired of waiting for a proper Mass Effect and tried to make their own spiritual successor.
Wait for actual reviews for a better idea. These preview threads are already off the rails.What's with the massive hate-fest this game is getting? It was my most anticipated of the year, is it really that terrible? -_-;
I'm on PC and frankly this plays like dogshit. I haven't delved into the single player but what the hell. There's constant rubberbanding in the multiplayer to the point where I physically feel sick, stuttering, lots of input lag and lag due to the animations, and the cover system is totally inconsistent and feels awful to deal with. I absolutely loved the ME3 multiplayer and this feels horrible to actually play. I'm wondering as to why people are even praising the combat as what I'm playing here is terrible. It's like they tried to put weight into the character movements through the animations but it just feels sloppy now. The hit detection is bad and enemies are bullet sponges even on bronze.
I was expecting at least the multiplayer to be good. This is actively bad. Maybe it's networking issues but this is really bad.

I need someone to explain this to me. Is this not the lead game designer saying Early Access DOESN'T have the day 1 patch? I'm trying to understand what patch is live and what patch is being worked on.

I love the jetpack but this plays much worse than ME3 at least in regards to the multiplayer right now.
Someone is going to have to run some tests about input delay because right now this doesn't feel that playable.
Rubberbanding and stuttering are network related. Cover system is different, but certain enemies also have the ability to hit you behind cover, so it's not as safe as ME1-3. The goal is move around more. Enemies are bullet sponges until you level up characters and guns, just like ME3.
Some of the stuff though like the input delay seem more animation related as they wanted to portray momentum, I guess, however it comes off as more infuriating than anything else. The cover system is annoying to deal with as it's not always clear you're in cover and it's way too easy to snap out of cover. I understand they want you to move around but it doesn't come across as fluid as ME3 where you could glide across the stuff and just seems clumsy.
As for the bullet sponges I don't remember it being this bad even on Bronze but it also might be networking related if the hit detection is acting wonky.
Do you remember playing the first few hours of the original Mass Effect? Combat was clunky, there was a ridiculous amount of talking and half your playtime was driving around barren planets or wandering around an empty ship. But obviously things picked up from there and it turned into a great game and a great series. That very well may not happen here, but regardless, that's the type of game this is.
This was the wrong tactic for a rollout, both in terms of press previews, but also, EA Access, if I had to guess how players will react to the games intro. This is one case where an early preview may backfire pretty badly with judgement being rendered too quickly.
My advice?
- Take first impressions pieces with a grain of salt, my own included.
- Remember how slow the first few hours of many huge RPGs are.
- If you play the Early Access preview, do not judge the entire game based on Eos.
- Wait for full reviews to get the best sense of the game. Mine may be late as it is mandatory for me to do all sidequests and talk to all the people.
Did the previous ME games have that dull and unengaging conversation system with minor NPCs? The one that makes you watch two people talking from a distance. I remember it a lot from Inquisition, but from what I remember from ME1-3 you at least got a close up over the shoulder view of people you were talking to.

Big ME fan from the previous generation.
I'm 2 hours into this and so far it's a dumpster fire of boredom. I also hate games that won't let you go back and let you get optional objectives once you hit a certain cutscene. I'm a completionist and it's fucking annoying. Poor Greer. I wanted to save you little buddy....

videos look like this as well.
He's saying there is a day 1 patch, and it literally comes out on day 1. So, yes. No D1 patch with early.
You should be able to just press B when you're done. If you're seeing issues with it...that makes me suspect that early access does NOT actually include the d1 patch. :-(

For me it's harder to remember the beginning of ME3 MP before I had any gear. I now have level V equipment, level X guns, hi-level boosters, and 5x all gear, which meant completing Bronze with Level 1 characters was easy enough. Now, if you have a Level X paladin and the enemies are still bullet sponges in Bronze in ME:A, I will also be concerned. But 10 hours isn't enough time to get there unless you spend real money in the store and I don't plan to do that.
I've played 4.5 hours of MP on console, and when I was playing with people in a party that were geographically close, the rubberbanding and stuttering stopped. I also pumped up the sensitivity on my controller and things were much more responsive in control. I played a game this morning though with strangers and had 1 good game and 1 game where the lag/rubber banding was so bad I had to quit. I am hopeful that these will be resolved with a higher player base. We shall see.
I'll give it another try later tonight but man the rubberbanding stuff is more infuriating than anything else.
Finished the trial after like 6 hours, was pretty damn thorough. It makes half of this thread even more laughable, anyone saying it's anything like Inquisition player either 0 inquisition or 0 andromeda. This is Mass Effect through and fucking through. Space shit feels like ME1 with how much there is to flat out read and see wihtout spending forever scanning shit (There is a scan mechanic but it tells you when there is something to find and it's like 1 thing per solar system, it's more like the ME1 style "ANOMALY DETECTED" message). The planet on Eos has no random running around collectible garbage like DA:I. There's 0 MMO style fetch quests, there's no random getting shards. You have a mission table like DA:I but it ties in with the multiplayer, and is basically solely used to get you actual equipment and the like (and the table in DA:I was fine anyway, it was the "Hey you need to do the mmo fetch quests to get inquisition power" that was wrong with it).
Like....LITERALLY NOTHING is the same as DA:I other than the basic shit that is partof all bioware games, the dialogue wheel, for example.
Animations are fine, faces are mostly fine, like what a crock of shit all of the tryhard hate posts are. Blows my mind. It definitely has a slow start, but it has what it needs - just enough intrigue to wonder what is going on.
To make it clear no matter how ugly thus game is......I'm 90% sure I'm still buying it, just wish it was a Friday release instead of a Tuesday release.

It means you move a certain distance but you'll be yanked back a set amount because the network/host reads you as somewhere else. Imagine walking 10 feet in one direction and then suddenly you're back five feet.Whats the rubber banding mean? That you cant move beyond a certain point based on how far away other players are?
That wasnt a thing in ME3 MP if I recall. Is it because MP maps are much bigger in Andromeda?
There are plenty of little MMO style quests. Like the one about a saboteur on the ark, running back and forth between ships forever. Or the silly strike team quests.
Clearly you like the game but to brush everyone's criticisms like this is just childish.
Why would you want it to be delayed three days? I could understand asking for another six month or year delay, but they can't probably do too much in a few more days.
