Mass Effect: Andromeda - EA/Origin Access trial coming March 16th - 10 hour trial

.....................................

I have been in a total of six multiplayer matches today. Two of those matches had such heavy rubberbanding that it was near impossible at times to either move or shoot. Another two of those matches had hard crashes in the first wave. My latest match seemed fine but then quickly spiraled into a mess of rubberbanding before crashing in the fifth wave. I've had one match where the netcoding was fine. ONE FUCKING MATCH OUT OF SIX.

WHO THE FUCK THOUGHT THIS WAS IN A SHIPPABLE STATE? WHO? THIS IS COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE.

Mate, you've had a bad run with ME:A, you seem to detest the SP now the MP is giving you grief, perhaps it's just not the game for you?

I'm having a ball: each to their own and everything, but all of the complaints you've listed I haven't experienced at all (except the 'tired face' line, that was derpy for sure).

Or maybe the game is a piece of shit. I shouldn't be getting multiple crashes in a span of an hour. This was not in a releasable state. I was actually enjoying the multiplayer when it was, by some miracle, working.

Yep that would definitely grind my gears as well: all I'm saying is I've played multiple MP matches and not experienced any problems at all, not to take away from what you've experience though.

Multiplayer is pretty amazing when it's all working well: hopefully it was just due to server and P2P host problems, not the base netcode: unless I'm just super lucky or something.

Could be. Could also be that you're just an incredibly unlucky exception with regards to the crashes. It's hard to say based on just one person's experience. (I've only tried the SP, not the MP, so I can't personally comment on whether it is or isn't in a releasable state.)

This trial ends at the worst place ever wtf. if I buy it now can I continue playing the rest of the game immediately or what

Nope. You cannot proceed past that point until March 20th at 11 PM central standard time. It sucks, I know. I have a thirst, a thirst for more. You can play some MP, at least, or finish up other side quests.

That's how they hook ya. ;)

And we all have to wait until Tuesday. At least you can keep playing until your ten hours are up, though. There's side quests and other stuff to do. Pretty solid amount of things to craft, etc.

The game is a piece of shit the same thing happens to me nonstop. And I can't host because I was stupid and thought buying loot boxes since I enjoyed 3 so much would be a fun way to kick it off now my rating is so high I can't match make with anyone that's kinda my fault but still shitty and dumb because they shouldn't rank you off your entire inventory they should have gone off what you had equipped like any other game.

I think it took me 3-4 hours. I didn't explore too much on Eos, maybe I'll go try again now. But exploring that planet felt pretty uninteresting.

Time to check out the multiplayer

My counter says 7hrs 37min as of my last save. Haven't touched multiplayer yet. I hit the "softcap" for the story progression somewhere around the 7hr mark.

Ok cool, that's not too bad. Longer than I though
Might load it up over the weekend and start playing and pick up when released

Where do you get the side quests from? Have I probably picked some up already?

I have a lot of trouble navigating through the menus in this and also the general UI can be kind of overwhelming

Some of the side stuff gets picked up passively on Eos and the Nexus, others from talking to characters. Also, Habitat 7 had a handful of side objectives before you caught up with Cora.

I agree the menus are a bit confusing until you get used to them. The quests are all in the Journal tab, separated by type. Under each type, you can see what quests you have and you can pick one to specifically track if you want to focus on it.

uh...how would you propose that he does that?
Your helmet literally shatters.

Swap helmets back and forth, and hold your breath?

They specifically mention that the environment itself isn't (synthetically) toxic, just that there isn't enough oxygen.

How much playtime in the single player?

~4 hours for me, but that was admittedly skipping some conversations because I'd watched previews.

So prob 5-6 hours if you go slow. If you wanna go fast, prob 2-3

I haven't explored all of Eos as a lot of it has a high radiation level, even for the Nomad. Unless there is a way to increase the Nomads Radiation protection some of Eos will remain unseen, at least for me.

Calm down and wait for a patch. I tried MP once : didn't work. Now waiting. Not that hard.
The game isn't even officially out, geez...

Yeah, those parts of Eos are locked for the trial it seems like. You have to get the planet viability up and/or also upgrade your Nomad.

I tried boosting to a couple of the way points in the level 3 zones but couldn't quite make it there haha. Thankfully you can fast travel out of danger.

In a P2P netcode solution, more players so that matchmaking can find people closer geographically is going to solve a lot of these issues. The trial limits people to 10 hours, the player count for MP is low right now. If one week from now this persists, then this will be a problem.

I am not seeing any issues with the characters, dialogue, or voice acting. VA seems solid across the board. Dialogue can be bland but absolutely not terrible. It sounds about on par with a Telltale game or the previous Mass Effect games. Characters genuinely seem pretty cool so far.

All that futuristic 22nd century technology and modern airliners do better. Clearly they didn't
even have emergency respirators
.

This is with the Day 1 patch. This is not remotely acceptable. Even COD releases are noticeably smoother than this.

However what's causing the hard crashes? That doesn't seem to be a netcode issue.

I thought about that myself but they mentioned extraction taking a while but Sara/Scott were already losing consciousness so it's not really a viable tactic.

It's right on par with previous Mass Effect games, so far. I'm already hooked on what's happening, and the new cast isn't terrible.

I could listen to the Scottish gal on the bridge talk all day.

For me the game crashes whenever there's a bunch of enemies on screen most often on the 7th wave. The camera falls into the floor and then it boots me back to the multiplayer lobby or it just straight up freezes and then kicks me.

Well, if anything, Vetra has promise. Hopefully she's a Morrigan-tier BioWare character. Peebee seems fine, too, but she'll be facing a lot of competition with Liara.

Just please no Kaidan or Jacob again. Romancing Kaidan in ME3 was like dating a jar of mayonnaise.

Yeah, did you get the email with the 60 page pamphlet about the dirt? I had a decent chuckle.

I agree with all of this. Are people not feeling Liam and Cora so far? Liam's HUSTL stuff seemed cool. Cora I'm worried about her being mad about not being the Pathfinder, but otherwise she's been fine. No one is getting on my nerves yet or anything.

Spoilers for end of the trial
that Krogan seemed neat too

I liked Kaidan in ME3 so yes more Kaidan please.

Jacob can die in a fire tho.

Definitely like Cora and Vetra so far. They have some fun quips and banter while out exploring Eos.

I'm also a fan of the contextual stuff. Your squad mates will make little comments about what you're doing, whether it's something a normal player would do, or if you decide to go off the beaten path. I won't spoil any of it, but it makes them seem more alive imho.

I've been sitting here hosting a public MP match for about 15 minutes now and no one has joined.

I'm going to have to go back to joining a match which means host switching and rubberbading everywhere. Not very fun. Worked fine yesterday. Maybe I was just lucky.

I'm torn on whether I should get this day 1 or wait a very long time for sales. I really do want this game to be good because I'm itching to play a AAA RPG with character creation, the main draw of Bioware titles for me. Cyberpunk 2077 is a long way away.

And they mention it's going to take like 4+ minutes, and your character is basically unconscious. How are you going to do what you described in that shape exactly?

Took me over 6 hours to do all of the primary and secondary quests you can find easily, didn't explore Eos much beoynd that at all.

What is your apex level I think that's how matchmaking works so if it's high you won't be able to find anyone.

Sacrilege! Kaidan was the most sweetest and sensible jar of mayonnaise I've ever dated in video game, and was a level-headed contrast to the rest of the romances.

...I'm now kinda confused and hungry.

Kaidan's ME1 romance was blaaaaaaaaaaargggh, though. Fingers-crossed for Vetra being a good one, and though I wasn't a fan of the Blackwall romance from the same writer, Isabela is one of my favs.

Yeah, Kaiden's romance in ME1 was a whole lot of nothing, but I thought he was really good in ME3.

He was kinda my super evil Shepard's one link to morality. Also she was really unsubtle at staring at his ass and that was kinda funny

I'm going to hold off my final opinion til the credits roll, but man I'm starting to see why Casey Hudson left, hopefully Drew coming back can save some bioware stories

The game has not been released yet, that is Tuesday. But yes, hard crashes are not caused by netcode.

Unless the early access was supposed to just be a beta test for multiplayer stability, extremely late, that's not really a good excuse. Especially since it's supposed to be giving people an early look at the finished product, not some six month's out demo of a work in progress.
