I am about 60 hours in now and it has been 10+ years that a game has grabbed me like this game. While I have some issues with the performance and textures and personally, I would not give it a 10, I am still enjoying the hell out of it. Everyday I play it, I try to do a few shrines, a quest here and there, but mostly exploring, finding the Korok seeds, finding hidden chests etc. Game is just a blast to play and while I really wish you could repair equipment, it still has been just a blast.

Beat ganon, I think I prepared too much cause it was actually pretty easy. I stocked up on 10 cooked hearty durians but didnt need them. Lionels were harder imo. The design and everything was really cool though. Ending didnt give me anywhere close to as much closure as wind waker, although i didnt get the true ending since I only got a few of the memories not counting the dungeon stuff.

Question about the full climbing gear. I'll spoiler tag it to be sure.

I have the bandana, boots and gear. I upgraded the boots and gear and can't upgrade bandana because all the materials show three ???. Does this mean I haven't discovered those materials yet? I was told that if I fully upgrade this set Link won't slip away from wet rocks anymore. Is this true? Also what materials do I require?

1) The
Gorons coulda been there already and just been hard asses about letting Hylians through, even without the Gut Check Challenge present back then.

2) It could be a reward simply for finding and climbing to it, since you need to do a whole hell of a lot to get there in the first place. It's like right at the top of the map and pretty much surrounded by lava and ice on both sides.

CHECK MATE

1) Again, how would the Sheikah Monk know? These shrines aren't magical, they were built underground hundreds, if not thousands of years before the events of the game. So the Sheikah Monk must have been like "Hey Gorons, wanna guard this shit and challenge random people to a climb?"

2) Yeah I guess so...

Though what was weirder was coming across the
Shrine you can see from the top of that bit, easily gliding there and getting another "Blessing" shrine. Must have missed the quest, which does make sense since I'm coming in to Akkala from the North instead of the South.

Yeah, I don't know why Nintendo didn't scaled the bosses like they did with the normal monsters :x

To MosquitoSmasher:

If you're seeing the ??? for items at the Great Fairy, it means that
you need to find more Fairies to further upgrade your equipment. You can only see what your current upgrade level can unlock. So if you've only found one, you can only see the level one upgrades.

And the climbing gear does *not* alter water climbing. Only
lessens the stamina it takes to jump up walls.

Ah damn. So we'll always be slipping from wet rocks if it rains? Sucks, but ah well, not the end of the world. But still any upgrade is welcome. As for
fairies. I've only found the one near Kakariko so far.

So is anyone else having a hard time finding shooting stars? I've seen like 6 of them fall, but I can't find them after they hit. friend says they leave a yellow light going into the air, but I've yet to see that. Frustrating because I need many of them to upgrade my armor.

Yeah, they'll emit a beam of light straight upward, like your markers (except you don't need to be in the scope to see them). Be aware, though, that they will disappear over time or if a blood moon happens (I had one disappear that way right before I got to it). But generally, when you see a shooting star, just keep watching it, and you should be able to find the general direction of where to go.

Having Blood Moon issues more often now. Happened twice in the mornings. This issue seems prevalent in the north-western regions. Havent had this issue anywhere else.

Scaling bosses won't have hurted the game, they will be still beatable and challenging.
For us yes, but for children and first timers, maybe not. I'm playing the game with only 3 hearts and hoping the hard mode adds even more challenge like that, but I was never expecting them to go full out hard. Folks were already shitting on the dlc because Zelda has never been a challenge and they felt entitled to the mode.

Turn off your switch completely, not sleep mode. Should stop it, might be a memory leak.

Yeah I'd probably give it a 10 if not for the performance issues. I have a few other nitpicks too but the game is mostly excellent.

Nearly 90 hours in and I'm still finding new ways to get korok seeds.

So I lost self control and I spoiled the Staff Roll music for myself and good Lord it is soooo good. The
piano
gives me goosebumps. Tempted to just beat the game now so I can experience it in game.

I also hear amazing things about Hyrule Castle and I will NOT cave on that one.

You can turn the Switch off? Lol I've had it on sleep since day 1. How do I turn it off? Stupid question I know.

Man I can't bring myself to head toward the endgame and I don't know what kind of self-fulfillment I need to achieve in order to do so. Kind of wish there were some kind of
event between finishing all four beasts and the castle to give it a sort of finale-setup type feel. I still have yet to find all the memories
, but that's kinda fetch-questy and I'm not sure if that'd suffice.

Nearly done the game. At Hyrule Castle with maxed stamina, hearts, hylian shield, and maxed tunic of the wild. This has been one heck of a ride.

My first thought is, I feel like replaying the game again. Will probably buy the expansion whenever i end up getting a switch and the switch version of the game to check out the harder difficulty. Will be interesting seeing how the game plays in its entirety coming off the Wii U version.

Wii U performance hasn't been a total disaster but the framerate does get really annoying and I've had the game become a still image for a couple of seconds while on Death Mountain fighting Moblins. It's the only time the game does that, otherwise, it stays in the 20s and goes into the teens when in towns/forests or when it rains. I really put the thing through its paces, and it's a good game to end it on.

Is anyone else like, 30-40h in and barely made a dent? I have five fucking hearts, 1 dungeon done, maybe 20 shrines cleared, and have played this as much as I have any other single player title for the last decade.

WTF

(loving it, but man, I'm slow)

Ramble incoming, but frustrated...

I like the game okay but i'm about to drop it, it's a little too repetitive for me i guess? Like all games are repetitive but the lack of characterization from link or leveling like an rpg just makes me feel like link isn't getting much stronger, so i don't feel drive to explore, which makes me just focus on the main quest, which isn't great.

I think I might get a switch down the line once there's a pokemon game for it, then get BotW on it. I don't hate the game, I just feel like I'd enjoy it more in small chunks like I'd play a handheld; console/pc games I generally wanna be able to sit down for hours with, and that usually requires a lot of changes in the hour-to-hour gameplay for me to be interested.

Weirdly, it's a lot like Dark Souls, which I'm also not a huge fan of for similar reasons. Generally, if a game will be more than 20 hours long, I need it to either have a very strong main character [lots of personality/voice acting], a deep RPG levelling up system, or really fast-paced, action-y combat.

I think ultimately my main problem with the game isI can play for four hours and when I stop, I'm not much stronger or better than I was. That lack of progression kills me.

I enjoy it in the moment but an hour after I set the controller down I couldn't tell you with confidence what I even was doing

This is kind of a rant, but TLDR: I think the game is an incredible achievement in open world gameplay, but the lack of really feeling like Link has a strong personality or more RPG systems to develop my playstyle is a buzzkill for me and I might pick the game back up later for cheap when I can buy a Switch.

I wouldn't say the game lacks progression. It's just a bit less intuitive. Monster parts are used to level up your gear in Fairy Fountains, so whenever you are fighting someone you are accumulating experience to increase your Defence. Beating shrines increase your Health and Stamina. Finding Korok Seeds increase your inventory. Defeating
Divine Beasts
grants you
special abilities
. Advancing the story raises the overall level of monsters, which results in better weapons, essentially your Attack. Sidequests provide you Rupees.

hey guys just started

i got the bomb shrine done and i need to do the other two, but they're in a cold area. what's the easiest way to stay warm? i have some peppers but idk how to cook

How can I do this awesome move?

Find a cooking Pot, enter your inventory, click on the items you want to cook, select 'hold' option, exit inventory, drop food on the Pot. Peppers mix with other Fruits, Mushrooms or Meat.

Other option is to carry a torch. You would need to avoid combat though.

If you have enough food, you might even brute force your way.

There are 2 places in the plateau were you are told about it. There are also other ways to survive on cold areas. I suggest you to explore the non cold areas a bit.

But if you want to know
cursor on ingredient, select hold. Select more ingredients, stand next to a cooking pot and press a

Anyone know of a reliable farming spot for Energetic Rhino Beetle? I see people saying Rokk Woods and the beach south of Lurelin but they've given me next to nothing. 2 beetles in 2 hours. There's got to be a better way

Bopped the big boy. Fight was real easy but at least he looked dope. Funnily, for the second phase the
horse that was waiting for me was a Giant Horse
, which was silly. It worked as a good "this game is epic but also emergent so silly stuff happens" kind of capstone.

====Defeat Ganon====
=====Complete=====

was a great touch. Also I loved boss-ass Urbosa
commanding her Beast with a snap.

The castle was really cool I wish I'd gone in earlier. Didn't realize there was a weapon style that only happens in there. Also I wasn't a huge fan of the kinda procedural music that dominated most of the game. Was nice to have a full zone with a "proper" score.

I didn't find the shield everyone talks about though so I'll definitely go right back in. I wanna pretend I'm not an overpowered Golden God and try a couple different infiltration strats. Walking in the front door standing tall felt good after this long with the game, but I'm curious how the other paths feel.
Like entering through the back using the Zora armor; I barely spent any time in the tunnels under the castle. Also I wanna see if I can Sneaking Mission my way to the Sanctum.

Zelda mentions right at the end
that "Ganon has given up on reincarnation". Is this a Final Victory? This game gotta go at the end of a timeline?

Each of the 30th Anniversary amiibo has 3 costume pieces, a special weapon, and a normal weapon or arrows they drop. So you could scan it every day for a month and never get all the pieces. It's way easier to just cheese it. Save manually, scan you amiibo, check the chest, if you didn't get something you want reload your save and try again. It'll take 3-4 days of doing this if you want to get everything out of your amiibo.

What a bunch of horse shit.

It is, but as I said, it's not moveset progression, which is kind of a dealbreaker for me.

You're definitely right, it just doesn't click for me. I think a big part of it is because I judge character growth mostly by evolution of my moveset. New spells, new attacks, etc, and those feel pretty scarce. Yeah, I get more health and some cool abilities from equipment, but combat never -fundamentally- changes from hour 1 to me. I've mostly taken down every enemy I've fought so far by plinking their weak spot with arrows, dodging, and flurry rushing.

I realize I -can- fight enemies differently than that, but none of the alternatives appeal to me. I don't really get enjoyment from 'creative' kills like hang-glide bombing or setting up elaborate traps. I just wanna do sick combos and get new skills.

I'm not trying to say the game should be like this; I know everyone's not into that and Zelda clearly isn't built for me, and that's fine. Just articularting why it's losing me.
Why would anyone get a Zelda game for sick combos and skills. Play some Platinum games. They're arguably the best for what you want currently.

Most arguments I've read are that it's more referring to the specific moment rather than a grand statement. Not like they'd really have that scope of knowledge, I think.

Judging a platinum games progression by the unlocking of the movesets is also nuts to me lol. By the time you have all your options in Bayonetta you're about ready to start really playing imho, haha

I will! I've never played Zelda and I didn't know what it was like. Definitely gonna drop it and do Nier Automata instead.

I'm not bashing the game or anything, I understand that isn't what it's going for. But I bought it at a friend's request [so I can give it to them after] and just mentioning I didn't like it.

I loved the comment on this speedrun on youtube:

"Zelda: link come over
Link: I have like no gear
Zelda: my parents aren't home"
