The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild |OT2| It's 98 All Over Again

I didn't have any arrows left after the Stone Talus fight. Used them all up before realising I could just climb up on its head. There would be no way to get a torch because you need to climb the wall. I have a flint but can't seem to use it.

As far as I know, you have to drop flint onto a pile of wood and then strike it with something metal to cause a flame. A wooden weapon will make do as a makeshift torch as well. But you could always just come back later when you have more resources anyways.

Or, use red chu jelly, which you make by dropping blue jelly next to a fire. Then you don't even need metal, just an impact to start the fire.

Didn't even think of hitting it with a weapon. I held a piece of wood + flint but they dropped to the ground. I thought some new option would appear. I guess I'll go back and try that.

HOLY SHIT THANK YOU GUYS.

I remembered
activating the shrine, getting the master sword and then going to bed.

Lmao I'm dumb.

I really enjoyed how there's a different obstacle surrounding each tower. There's one tower covered in, uh, Ganon Gunk, but no platforms high enough to float over it, so I crawled over the edge of an archway that looked barely climbable and managed to glide in (just barely!).

This game is full of fun little stunts like that. If I had any regrets is that I didn't try more funny little tricks in shrines and such. So many AH-HA moments where you really feel like you learned something new.

Got 9 shrines left. Discovered the Coliseum yesterday and realized that I no longer have to worry about losing elemental weapons anymore as I can always come back here to get them if I need to.

Also it's really amusing that I often have sidequests completed before I even activate them. Just did a cooking one in Kakariko where I just pounded out all four sidequests in a row just by going through dialogue. This happens pretty frequently, this game is very friendly in regards to sidequests.

That's why I finish every single Shrine I encounter right away, fully knowing that I could just activate it and come back later. I tried doing it once and I felt dirty.

Probably been posted several times, but I think this GMT episode is a great thing to watch and think about with how some older open world game design has been applied to BOTW, and probably why it feels so fresh to many compared to modern open-worlders:

Following the Little Dotted Line | Game Maker's Toolkit
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FzOCkXsyIqo

I considered trying TW3 this way next (turning everything off), but as he points out, the game simply wasn't designed to be played that way, which is unfortunate since I would love to try after experiencing this type of style and player/world synergy in BOTW.

Zelda character arc:
At least initially, she came off as this to me and the more the memories progressed, the less did my opinion change. Kass's sidequest conclusion does give it a bit of a spoiler on her personality and actions but before that she was very... selfish. Very much she felt like a character who needed and desperately sought validation and needed to be the one who succeeded in her "destiny".

Even when Link is 'knighted' which was at the behest of the champions as a morale booster, she's completely out of it because she doesn't want Link to be the moral pillar of their group because he is everything she fails to be and accomplish. Of course, everyone around her is successful. Urbosa is a total badass and the warlord of the Gerudo, Revali is an ace, Daruk is strong and level-headed, and Mipha is a renowned hero and healer who is of royal blood just as Zelda. Then there's Zelda who, as far as she has managed, has only managed to fail at everything in her own mind.

When she hides the sheikah slate activation from Link, for instance, its because (a.) she's envious of him and (b.) because she wants to be the one who succeeds here. She is desperate to succeed given she failed at being the "chosen" one like her mother had been.

So through it, she comes off as someone who (because of failure) twists and twists into an ever more selfish person in order to finally grasp success somewhere. She does this in her research, trying to find success in the ancient riddles and mysteries, and why she ends up (at their last meeting before he dies :( ) fighting with her father.

Obviously, her father is just as guilty in her character as he's the one who pigeonholed her from birth into a sense of "being chosen" and "you must succeed", so its not at all surprising that she ends up being someone desperate to succeed.

Its when she drops all the baggage that she is able to actually awaken her power.

And for Link:
He's aware that she trying to stand-out and succeed and he does as little to garner attention as possible, preferring to act as a shadow that silently nods and does as told. Which, of course, she also despises because to her it looks like he's just being a good lapdog for her father and, again, sees her own failures in him because, unlike him, she can't do as she's told because that just leads her to repeated failure.

Easily the most interesting Zelda characterization of the series. I love how
it even explains Link's taciturn nature, even if it's just out of coincidence

Oh thats right. I forgot chu jelly can have different stuff like that. Thats also a good way to go about it. I feel I made red jelly when I killed a chuchu with a fire weapon but maybe that was some different effect

I thought the option would appear as well but tried hitting instead after a while of trying to get the flint to work like dropping it from a higher spot onto the wood lol

Huh, so putting a Windcleaver in Sensor+ makes you aware that a Yiga clan member is nearby. Guess that also works with the duplex bow and sickle.

I just did this exact thing last night! I also had to sneak past some flying guardians to get there, which I hadn't encountered before. It's definitely neat how each tower is a unique challenge rather than just being a freebie way to expand the map.

Someone posted this map where it only shows the number of shrines in each region but not where they are. So then you can at least narrow it down to where to look for shrines...

Oh damn, I'm definitely saving this. I'm closing in on 100 shrines, and I might resort to using this if the search for the last few gets too tedious. So far finding them on my own without the sheikah sensor has been a blast tho.

If it's the one in the
Akkala region (I think that's it), then there's actually a metal plank that you can use to navigate around the tower and use to get onto the tower itself.
Either way, one of the best things about the game is being able to find alternate paths or your own ways of doing things

Sorry if this one was answered before, I couldn't the right post and I dont have the game.
Is this area from the first screenshot still in the game and where is it's location.

Respect. I think my Shrine count is still only in the low-to-mid 60's. I don't think I'm going to be able to find them all without using a map/guide.

This is probably a dumb question, but how do I make elixirs? Do I just "cook" the ingredients like any other food/health item?

yeah, it's monster parts + critters and such

Yes, but they must be more "potion" like ingredients, so bugs, lizards, mushrooms, and they must be combined with a monster part or you'll get dubious food.

It's not in the game, no.

I could just imagine the amount of posts showing the "downgrade" if it were...

Thanks for the elaboration. I definitely read much less into those scenes than you did, for example,
I felt that she always had the fascination on the technology so her trying to keep the shrine activation a secret was more of not wanting her father to find out rather than trying to hide it from Link. Even if she did succeed at activating her shrines, it would give her no credit because she's supposed to be the sealing maiden, not someone that would wield sheikah technology to fight Ganon. When was it hinted that her mother was a failure? I thought that they haven't had to do this in a long time because it has been peaceful for 1000 years, so there's no need for every queen or princess to have sealing powers without any threat

Hmm, good question. I tracked down most of the memories based on the pictures, instead of getting the hints. I may try to find this, too. You can see Death Mountain on the right, and the split-in-half mountain (forgot its name) on the left. Should be possible to triangulate the spot.

Yep, at least that's the one I'm talking about.

I just want to note that mushrooms are "food" and not "potion" ingredients, so you're gonna get some dubious food if you try to make elixirs with them.

Anybody know what the different colored weapon "buffs" mean?

I used to assume that a white colored buff was a low tier buff, with gold and blue meaning better levels, but I've got two royal broadswords with +24 attack damage, however one is gold and one is white

Oh man if the game would have truly end up looking like that... :( But this is still my GOAT so no issues :) And yeah I think this scene is simply not on the game and was just generated for that reveal trailer and nothing else.

This is wrong. Mushrooms can go in elixirs, but you must make sure you have the right type and effect. I made a bunch last night with sunshroom, summerwing, red chu and red lizalfos tail.

re mother:
re read that, he meant Zelda's mother was succeful unlike her, as Zelda herself laments how the only person who could teach her how to awaken her powers is dead.

Err, so, I'm trying to do the Gerudo Divine Beast.

Not sure what's going wrong, but there is just nobody at the end of the "Yiga valley".

According to the quest, I did talk to the commander of the Gerudo, and it says to go into the valley. There also some Yiga awaiting me, but then I go into a round-ish room with a (round) pedestal in it and that's it. I'm at an impasse, quite literally.

If you really wanna know:

Burn the curtains.
