The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild |OT2| It's 98 All Over Again

I finished the main quest last night. What an amazing game!

However, I made the dumb decision to get the last memory and then go fight Ganon instead of reporting to Impa first to get the actual, actual last memory for the true ending. So... I, unfortunately, had to fight Ganon two times. Once because I thought I had done all I needed to do and the second time because I realized I had to report to Impa for the actual last memory and so then I fought Ganon again to see the true ending. Kind of poorly communicated to the player and, well, honestly if the last memory you have is in Hyrule Castle like mine was why would you force the player to then go back to Impa while you're in the middle of getting through the castle!?

But that aside, I really liked Hyrule Castle. It's a very sprawling and large place. I still believe there's a few rooms I missed as when I went through it the second time, I realized I didn't even grab the Hylian Shield so I went and got that on my second run through of the place. There's definitely a lot of powerful weapons on the inside as well. I have to wonder what else I missed as I fought the Stalnox and I also fought the Talus and two Lynels -- though one of the Lynels weirdly disappeared??? Like I was fighting it and then as soon as I shot the eyeball for the malice in the room he just... disappeared and the gates opened up as if I defeated him... It was weird!

I thought the main quest, all said and done, was great. There's some things here and there that aren't so great, like the "escort" mission in Death Mountain. Sure, it's easy to get through it but it's so slow and a real slog. Honestly, if I were to do main quests ever again I would probably tackle that one first to get it out of the way since it's the least enjoyable one as the "moment" you use to get into the divine beast.

Final boss-wise, Calamity Ganon is a majooooor joke if you do all main quests and use the MS. The beast form afterwards is really cool visually but not difficult at all. It's even easier than the TP beast fight because of how slow Ganon is to fire his giant laser. I guess it's not really meant to be a boss so much as it is just a set piece of Ganon trying to destroy Hyrule before he's sealed away? But then I really would have liked it to be an actual boss fight anyway because horseback controls for this game, as far as combat goes, are way better than TP what with the larger open fields and how smooth the horse controls while you're aiming your bow. Certainly would have been very cool if it was an actual boss fight but whatever. It's still very cool visually and a nice way to end the game anyway.

I'm curious how the fight differs without any divine beasts. I think I'm gonna check out the latest any% speedrun for that.

VA-wise Zelda's definitely the weakest. Daruk and Revali, I felt, were pretty okay and Urbosa is definitely the best VA IMO. Riju's pretty okay, too, actually.

Kass is also probably my favorite NPC from this game just because of the accordion music he plays.

Oh and wearing the OoT tunic with the Hylian Shield and Master Sword is the best true true ending.

All in all, just an amazing game. I stopped at about 103 shrines with over 104 hours played before finishing the main quest. 123 Korok Seeds as well. I don't know my % completion but next time I turn the game on I will check that out before I go looking for the last 17 shrines.

I went in looking for recipes, then I made a hard-boiled egg and left.

I went back after a few beasts and looted the place... but still not sure about those recipes the NPC hints about.

Regarding the recipes:
you find two or three recipes that were made for the royal family in the remains of the castle library, in readable books

I spent a good while in the castle early on and found that stuff. Part of why I went in the first place was because I came across that quest, but as I didn't have the ingredients needed at the time, and now don't remember what they were, I still haven't finished that quest...

I find it interesting that after all this time playing the game, and now hovering around going to beat ganon and end it, I still haven't come across stuff people mention here. Still haven't found the quest for a white horse, even though I've had the horse for a long time. Neither have I come across a horse archery range.

About Rudania's Boss:

When I hit phase 2 of the fight, I didn't know what I was supposed to do. The Boss makes that fiery orb, passes it through its shield, then throws it at Link. When this orb hits anything, it explodes in a big area-of-effect. In the meantime, the boss is surrounded in a damage-negating shield.

So my knowledge and understanding of how Zelda bosses work makes me think I'm supposed to shoot the fiery orb when it is part way through the shield. This would make it explode and the explosion damages/staggers the boss. But this doesn't work. It just keeps exploding in mid-air and not affecting the boss.

So I start doing everything I can think of. I see if I can Stasis the orb, or bat the orb back, or parry it, but none of the works. I try hitting the boss with arrows, but that doesn't work either. The ghost of Daruk starts giving me hints like "watch closely as it charges its attack." This just makes me think I should be hitting that fiery orb while its still charging or close enough to hit the boss. I had never been stumped by a boss like this before. Finally, Daruk says "maybe he'd like a bomb snack."

After groaning at how stupid this line was, I threw a bomb just to see what would happen. It magically floats all the way to the boss and hovers right in its face, allowing me to detonate it and stagger the boss.
I was so mad. I thought I was picking up on all kinds of clues and clear telegraphs on how to proceed, but the answer was something completely different that I never would have guessed if not for the incredibly condescending in-game hint.

It's been 24 hours and I'm still annoyed at what the solution ended up being versus what I thought it was.

I'm pretty sure starting a new game on the same account deletes your old files.

But earlier in this thread, there was someone who used three different runs (normal, 3-heart and naked runs) and had difficulty telling them apart? I got the feeling the issue was that it wasn't possible to give the different games on the same user profile specific names.

Is there an easy way to tell which Locked Mementos you have already unlocked/visited?
The pictures you use to locate them have a little mark over them to signal that you already saw the cutscene.

There is also the menu in which you can replay them and you can see how many you are missing.

I struggled the same way. It was worse when I realized
its the same solution for almost every death mountain boss. He also tols me the dumb bomb hit as i was throwing the bomb. I was like yea yea i got it...

Yeah, this is the first I've head of such a thing. What shrines are you talking about? They've been replaced by the... frog statue things? Any pics?

Next time I am home I will take a screenshot.

This statue swap happened during the Kakariko side quest where you get the orb and didn't revert after I finished it.

The octorocks in death mountain tell you what to do, for another variation of the solution.

What do you mean?

Because I didn't recognize any sort of distinct vortex towards the boss in the same way the Death Mountain Octorok's prepare their attacks. But even if I had, I kill every Octorok with arrows. I still don't think I would have thought
to use a bomb.
:/

wait... I am pretty sure I managed to
parry that giant orb back to himafter trying a lot of things because I don't remember using the bombs at all =/

I just noticed that there seemed to be suction air lines going towards the big fire shield. The fire boss went down pretty easily for me.

The one boss that I was stuck on the longest was the lightning one. It took me a while to realize you had enough time to
pick up the rods and move it to the boss's location

Regarding Hyrule Castle:

I missed a loooooooooooot of it by coming flying from the sides, being spider-man and doing Gale jumps. I just met like two static guardians before landed up in the throne room, lol.

Will probably get back later for that one recipe quest and Hylian Shield. If you break the Shield, can you find it in the same location?

A Hylian in a complete Tarrey Town sells it for 3000 rupees if you break it.

Well hell,
I used Magnesis to pick up the rods and hover it over the boss instead. Didn't even know you can pick the rods up.

Man. The final form of Thunderblight Gabon is a monster. I think I might have some food that lessens lightning's effect on me though. Just thought of that..

The only time I've gone to the castle was to get the
memory
. Also I found myself in
Zelda
's room and checked some stuff out. I bailed out after that.

At this point I've done pretty much everything I can do with the exception of 20 shrines, but want to go back and explore the castle for a while. Can I do that without accidentally stumbling across the main boss? Not ready for that just yet.

The orb is so slow that I just parried it back to him.

Yes, just don't go into the sanctum.

The orb is so slow that I just parried it back to him.

I tried so many times because it is slow. But every time Link would make contact with the orb, it would explode. I tried so many different parry timings (including parrying the explosion like you're supposed to do with certain Lynels) but I could never get it to parry. It would just blow up. I must have tried a dozen times because I knew the timing would end up really precise. But nothing seemed to work.

Yeah, I also had the same bad experience with the
Fireblight boss. Tried everything except bombs, kind of a drag. That along with not noticing I had to turn the cannons and shoot Rudania, I thought they were there to hit the sentries. Pretty bad cases of design in that chapter, it sucks.

After 90+ hours finally decided to finish it. EPIC ENDING. Still got 40 shrines and lotsa gear to upgrade. Really GOAT for me. Maybe best game İ have ever played.

I'm almost positive you're mistaken. In the 120+ hours I've played the game, there are 2 (3) variations of the statues that you place fruit offerings in for Korok seeds. I don't believe they ever changed.

The cannons made perfect sense to me. It did take me a little bit to figure out that I needed to use bombs, but I had plenty of time to figure it out while I hid behind the control console. The "a-ha!" moment for me was when I realized he was inhaling like a Dodongo.

I had word for word the exact same experience. Tried exploding the orb in his face a million times before the dumb "bomb snack" line came and just made me feel super dumb

How?
It was pretty obvious. Even the Goron tells you "you can use me as a bullet against Rudania, don't worry my shield is OP!!" just BEFORE starting. Did you skip the cutscene?
My gosh he even JUMPS into the canons when you are near them.

I had this problem but with the
Lightning
one. Then when the game told me literally what to do I felt dumb and insulted xD

I went in looking for recipes, then I made a hard-boiled egg and left.

I went back after a few beasts and looted the place... but still not sure about those recipes the NPC hints about.

I found those actually,
you need to actually cook one of the recipes you learn to complete the quest
. They were in
the library
.

I have started to just ignore Korok challenges that involve shooting those stupid balloons. They tend to cost me about 20 arrows per challenge, and with arrows being pretty expensive, that just doesn't seem worth it to me.

I have over 500 shock arrows from killing Lynels. Never bought one. And if I kill a silver Lynel entirely with shock arrows using a 3 shot or 5 shot Lynel bow then I still end up with more shock arrows than I had before killing them.

This game is pretty generous with Shock Arrows. I currently have more than 600. Compared to my regular arrows which is at 35 lol.

Bring fairies and spam attacks and quickly rotate in a circle to dodge that super cheap sneak attack of his.

It works exactly like the Land Octorok's on death mountain. They have a suction effect where they take in air that you can use to clean rusty weapons and spit back at you or have them suck in a bomb to detonate.

I've heard lots of people saying they didn't know they could turn the canons. I can't imagine how this possible, but it's come up frequently enough that I can't deny that it's a pretty common confusion.

??? How do you have so many ???

I've killed tons of Lynels and there are never arrows on the ground. They break on impact. I have tons and tons of rupees so I just buy the arrows I want, but dang, I've never had 600 of anything. Let alone something as potent as Shock Arrows.

To be fair, 'enemies sucking up bombs' is a thing with the land octoroks on Death Mountain, when he's charging his attack all sorts of stuff gets sucked towards him (the biggest hint and the one that gave me the idea to try it immediately), and if you've played other Zelda games there have been more enemies/bosses with that exact weakness.

I don't think it was an unfair solution at all, and there are other ways of beating him (parry, like other users have said). Of course, sometimes you just miss the obvious when playing a game like this and I can understand how frustrating that can be.

I have twenty Spirit Orbs to spare, should I get 5x stamina upgrade (one extra circle) or 5x hearts?

For what it's worth, I have 17 hearts and I've have upgraded stamina 5x already (one extra circle).

Health is meaningless. Stamina is priceless. You can only get one more full wheel, so max it out and be done with it.

I'm not super mad about it,
yeah, it was telegraphed, but I saw the first use of the cannons as sentry destroyers and thought attacking it directly would come at the end of the path.

I've heard lots of people saying they didn't know they could turn the canons. I can't imagine how this possible, but it's come up frequently enough that I can't deny that it's a pretty common confusion.

Maybe it's the same people that didn't
use the canons to clear the way when you are searching for the Goron teen? Because after using the first one it becomes CLEAR that each one of those canons has a purpose and aren't placed randomly because of reasons

Man. The final form of Thunderblight Gabon is a monster. I think I might have some food that lessens lightning's effect on me though. Just thought of that..

It took me hours to beat him. What worked for me in his third form was
when he has lightning in his sword, just run away. After he attempts 3-4 of those teleporting attacks, the lightning runs out, and you have a chance to smash him with your weapons. Then he recharges that lightning sword again. Rinse and repeat with the running away until the lightning disiipates.

So stamina caps at 3 circles maximum (1 standard + 2 full upgrades) ?

Nice, I think I'll max stamina then, afterwards I can dump the orbs in health. Thanks.

That's correct. At three full circles, the statue says you've achieved perfect form and are too cool for school. At that point, you can't upgrade stamina any further.

??? How do you have so many ???

I've killed tons of Lynels and there are never arrows on the ground. They break on impact. I have tons and tons of rupees so I just buy the arrows I want, but dang, I've never had 600 of anything. Let alone something as potent as Shock Arrows.

Silver Lynels drop like 2 to 3 bundles of shock arrows x10. Some also comes from treasure chests scattered all across the region. There's this one area in the mountain of the giants (near a black Hinox) where every archer bokoblin drops a bundle of shock arrows. Also helps I don't use them as much unless it's raining or the enemy is swimming. I found fire arrows much rarer than any other arrow types except ancient arrows.
