The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild |OT2| It's 98 All Over Again

i feel like mario will disappoint. to me, we moved away from the that design philosophy for a reason. tight, linear progression makes for better platforming. see also: mirror's edge and mirror's edge catalyst.

I'm a bigger fan of Mario as linear obstacle courses as well, but after 3D World I'm ready for the 64 style exploration based level design. I also have complete faith in Tokyo EAD, they always deliver for me.

i can't recall where, but i thought it was said that there was a focus on making this one 'hard'. i hope it's the case. what we've seen so far hasn't been super impressive, but i do like the hat-throwing mechanic granting an extra jump.

You can set the shrine tracker to find koroks.
How? Do you have to take pictures of the puzzles?

Miyamato said the Galaxy franchise was for casuals(Wii crowd) and that he's returning to the "hardcore" sm64/sunshine style.

Literally nonsense. People keep complaining about koroks being tied to completion percentage like they want the game to reassure them with a shiny 100% completion sticker when they haven't actually completed 100% of the game. The complaint is absurd.

Well when the core story and shrine content is so goddamn weak what else is there than doing all the side stuff and exploring? Hell, if the korok "puzzles" were actually fun i'd look forward to them.

I also don't get your "haven't actually completed 100% of the game" comment. I have done absolutely everything else there is to do in the game aside from max out all the gear.

OoT did a lot of good things. 3D puzzles were very good, mature and inventive. Music was a unique departure for the series. It introduced different species and cultures that have been with the series since then. It put a bigger emphasis on interacting with the inhabitants of Hyrule, and performing side quests. Calling it a remake of LttP sells it short. Some of the enduring acclaim may be overblown, but it was still a landmark title and deserved many accolades.

As someone who has always preferred ALttP and LA, I still agree with this. I liked the 'clarity' and charm of the 2D titles and was disappointed to find it missing, but in terms of story and world building OoT is far ahead. It also features the best and richest incarnation of Ganon(dorf), although Wind Waker comes close.

What do you want? A medal?

For the people that have finished the game, i remember reading before the game came out that there was going to be
dungeons in this game, where are they because i have not seen any.

I tried to do some artistic shots in the game, but it's a shame I have to screenshot the menu to post them on Miiverse. Here are some of them, sorry for the low quality, I cropped the album menu out:

I beat all the Divine Beasts.

Nintendo obviously wanted to completely reinvent the Zelda conventions, and it's interesting to see that they went this direction with the dungeons. I think most people were not really clamoring for dungeons to be dramatically altered. Many enjoyed the dungeons in Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword, even if they weren't keen on the game overall.

Yeah, I agree. You're also right about this being a rethink of the dungeons that fits in with BotW's philosophy of expanded freedom. But the result is that it can feel to some people like them fixing something that wasn't broken, and making it weaker.

The truth is it would have been harder for them to fit the slightly linear/item-based dungeons into the game... but I would have kinda liked to see them try.

No? What is with this unnecessarily hostile reaction to people wanting to 100% the game? I never saw this kind of thing with the previous Zelda games or Mario or metroid or anything else.
Just because it's there, doesn't mean you should do it. If they stopped tracking the seeds after the necessary amount, a similar amount of people would be mad. The prize for collecting the seeds tells you everything you need to know about what they think of 100%. Aonuma even said/thought it wouldn't be possible, especially in as short a time as people have done it.

I'm so close to going completely crazy. I've somehow managed to kill that fucking Waterblight Ganon, because this stupid weapon mechanism just left me without much left...But I managed it.

Now I'm up against Thunderblight Ganon and I think I will throw the switch out of my window. The first phase is super easy. But in the second phase, when he suddenly remembers his thunder power...One mistake and he is one hitting me -.-

If it's any consolation, I butchered the first 3 Ganon bosses with ease (most of them didn't even make it to the second phase of the fight before I killed them), but Thunderblight Ganon kicked my ass - I only made it through by devouring almost every bit of food I had on me, and even then I barely scraped by.

As much as I love BotW, I'm super bummed that none of the boss battles take advantage of the sandbox combat that's so much fun throughout the rest of the game. It'd be nice if there was a pillar or something you could drop onto Ganon if fighting him the conventional way just wasn't working out for the player....something to mix things up a bit other than GIT GUD.

Have not played the game at all for a week, played last night and could not put it down again. I think I stopped for a little cause I was playing "too much". I am not very far as in regards to the main quest, done about 24 shrines or so, have about 60 seeds, just been exploring and doing some side quest stuff. But last night achieved one of my goals and unlocked the entire map in the game.

Most? I'd be curious to see statistics with people that have played most of the 3D Zeldas... I personally think they've outdone it several times (at least MM and WW) and I haven't felt that I'm alone thinking this.

I don't doubt many people have OoT number 1 (and I'm sure there's still plently) but a part of those probably don't play that many Zelda games and may have missed other iterations...

Yeah, Majora's Mask has always been by favorite 3D Zelda, but I've always been surprised at how easily OoT trounces all the others every time I see an informal poll almost anywhere on the web, largely as a result of it being so many peoples' first Zelda game and/or people being too confused by Majora or thinking that Wind Waker was too 'kiddy'.

Nintendo does one better for getting 100% korok seeds.

Seriously. I think we found the person Nintendo was thinking of with the 900 seed reward.

So because Nintendo doesn't think it's all that important it's ok to blatantly pad the game with poor content? The payoff bring worthless doesn't really matter as pretty much every payoff in the game is worthless anyway.

Kicking chests without any armor on is the best shit!

Question: if I miss to take a shot of an enemy (like a boss or something) can I take it later or am I out of luck?

"Ive done everything except what I don't like" is still not "ive done 100%"

Anyone know the name of the song that played in the last trailer for the game? During the Switch presentation.

I don't think it was in the game proper, and so it doesn't have a actual name as far as I'm aware.

I think part of it played during the
credits
, but that's as close as you can get for now.

You can't take the shots yourself, but there is an npc who gives you photos you can no longer get for rupees. It's random from those that you don't already have (according to google). It's in the
akala lab, once you've upgraded the shiekah slate fully

Man, I played five truly excellent shrines in a row just before going to bed last night. It was a blast. I literally couldn't go to sleep thinking about them.

So because Nintendo doesn't think it's all that important it's ok to blatantly pad the game with poor content?
It's a matter of opinion... I think the whole Korok mechanics is a nice touch, because when I've finished the game, I'll be able to visit if for months (or years) in short sessions just to find a couple more seeds.

For the same reason, I've always found it was a bit too easy/short to find packages in GTA.

lol

I think you'll find most people play videogames for this thing called "fun".

You might want to look it up sometime. If you're not having it, you're supposed to stop playing.

Wait really? How?

It never occured to me to try, but presumably you take a photo of a korok, then set it to seek them out (with the sheikah slate+) as you would any item or monster in the compendium.

I think I tried pretty early to take a picture of a korok but it didn't work or I messed up. Can you really track them or do you actually need to just keep looking around?

It's only "padding" if you think you have to do them. The idea of the Korok seeds is to just reward being observant about the world - "hey, that rock is out of place" or "hey, something is missing from this set of blocks". There's 900 of them to make sure even casual players are bound to notice a few of them. You're not really supposed to seek out all of them.

You're missing the point of the seeds, they put too much in there because they want people to stumble upon them in an adequate number during their play through to ease their inventory naturally.

Just checked on the
Hylian Shield
and if it respawned along with the rest of the weapons in the castle, and it did not. Though I do currently have that shield equipped so perhaps you can't have two at the same time, or it just doesn't respawn period. I've heard you can
buy another when it gets destroyed though.
All the other weapons I came across did respawn though.

You can only have one of that. It is only available for sale after it breaks.

Its shield and variants are the only ones that can deal damage up close by parrying. And its bow family is the best in the game.

Plus, its body parts are pretty valuable later on.

Cheers for checking, can anyone tell me where I can buy
The Hylian Shield? I've come across a guy selling shields for you to snowboard on (separate to minigames)

Well, to make dreaming worthwhile, what do you hope for from the holiday DLC?

I am going all out and imagining a timeline-inaccurate loftwing return complete with various flying islands, each with their own challenges. These islands have to all be conquered to access the new dungeon.

Haha that would be awesome. I'd love to be able to board other mounts besides horses. Imagine befriending a Lynel and then charging into battle with it? How badass would that be.

Realistically, I'd just love some additional shrines, side quests, a really tough traditional dungeon and PLAYABLE ZELDA.

I recently encountered the first shrine where I'm sure my solution was not what I was meant to do. It also involved controlling a switch with multiple bombs. It's great that the puzzles are sometimes hard but can also be solved with creative thinking.

I also beat the Gerudo beast as my last one. I know a lot of people don't care for the dungeons, but I rank that one among the very best 3D Zelda dungeons. The Zora one was also very good. I love how the beasts are a unified puzzle. They remind me of the dungeons in Majora, which revolved around manipulating a central room. The open design works really well with this concept. And I honestly prefer to have the dungeon-like content spread out in the world instead of being concentrated in a small number of grand dungeons.

Naboris was absolutely fantastic. It had me stumped for a long time until things finally clicked. I love the Divine Beasts, I just wish they were all as tough as Naboris.

1) When in battles, is it possible somehow to doge or is the shield the only thing i can use? 2) When low on health, is finding food the only thing than I can do? Any shops in the game?

Btw, the game screams Pro controller use. So it's either handheld mode or docked with pro controller.

Trying again. This thread is moving fast.

You're looking at it the wrong way. Korok seeds are simple rewards for being observant. The thing is, solving the puzzle is as simple as lifting a rock or as hard as shooting a balloon that moves like crazy. But the true challenge of Korok seeds is finding them.

It's not padding poor content. The game itself only requires like half or less to even maximize inventory slots of every gear. They are just that many so that players have more opportunities to get them even if the paths they take are different.

If you're low on health, you can replenish it by sleeping in a bed, either at an inn, or occasionally in random houses you find out in the wild.

For dodging, you can backflip or jump to the side by pressing the jump button and the appropriate direction while locked on to an enemy (holding the left trigger that doesn't pull out the slate). If you time this perfectly, the game goes in to slow mo and lets you get a gew free hits in.

1) Yes, dodge with X when you're locked on, jumping to the side or backflipping. Getting perfect timing triggers the flurry rush.

2) Sleeping can also restore health. There's tons of cooking to make meals and elixir with added benefits and there are a lot of shops in the different towns as well as wandering salesman

Trying again. This thread is moving fast.

While you are holding the lock on button, you can dodge sideways or backwards by jumping sideways or backwards depending on the direction of the attack. If timed correctly you can do flurry attacks.

For healing, any food you can pick up can heal you. Cook them for better benefits. As for shops, they sell food ingredients too, but if you can pick apples and mushrooms freely then you really need not to worry about buying food. You can also heal by sleeping at inns or at certain houses with a bed you can use.

Yes, that's true. The bossfights push you into a very specific direction, which the rest of the game does not. You can approach enemies in different ways.

And I'm starting to think, that the Joy-Cons introduce some serious lag if you play the game in docked mode. It's not only the "left Joy-Con" issue, but in handheld mode this game feels much more responsive. After a short break I beat the boss on the first try in handheld mode after I played the game for like 10 hours in docked mode.

Just thinking about how well crafted Hyrule is, and how funny it was that just a few years ago Nintendo was trying to turn the far inferior Wuhu Island into some sort of IP that they could rent out to companies, lol

Thunderblight Ganon
was only slightly more difficult than the others. Did people not realize you can
use Magnesis to pick up the stakes to hit him with?

Sure, but he was moving so much faster than how I could move the
stakes
that the
stakes
were nearly useless.

You clearly don't want to complete the game. You only want the game to say you've completed it. A foolish and nonsensical request.

So I started playing this game yesterday and I've avoided everything about it in anticipation of seeing it myself for the first time in game, in an attempt to preserve a feeling of adventure. That said, is there anything I need to know about the game as I embark on my journey, any missables, anything I might regret doing or not doing early on (or at any point, really), any things I really should know before I set out?

I apologize if these things have been touched upon before, but I haven't really read through the thread for the aforementioned reasons.

The only thing you should know is that you should not know anything.

So, to play the game in Japanese do I have to start a new profile and set the home country to Japan? And then launch the game? Is it that easy?
