I feel like I am SUPER late to starting this game but this weekend i'll finally start playing it. are there any recommended tips for starting out and to keep some things in mind?

If you get bored or bogged down by side quests, look to the horizon and choose a place to run to.

Sell your gems. I guess keep diamonds and some Luminous Stones, but other than that, sell them all. The items you make with them are decidedly inferior than armor that serves the same functions only better.

The only good jewelry is the diamond one and there is one novelty armor set that uses Luminous Stones. But sell the others.

I haven't had less than 10K Rupees since... I don't even know. I don't even remember the last time.

Yeah, you will regret that later.

Try to think as much out of the box as you can. When facing a problem, think logically about what you have in hand and what could work, and no matter how crazy, chances are it actually works. That's the beauty of this game.

Slight Vah Noboris spoilers.

When you get an orb that
give off electricity
and put it in the receptacle i'm pretty sure there is another one that you have to find, but instead I just
dropped a few of my metal swords and conducted it across...

The idea of pro mode sounds really cool.

The actual act of trying to play this game to completion in Pro Mode as an adult with a full-time job and interests outside of gaming doesn't sound as cool.

I'm an adult with a full-time job and interests outside of gaming, and Pro Mode has enhanced my enjoyment of the game tenfold. Rather than focusing on one goal, now I find myself wandering the map and doing whatever puzzles and sidequests I happen upon.

You need rubies to upgrade the Hero set(s)

I finally found Eventide Island that I've heard so much about. It was really fun but not particularly hard I thought. I killed the Hinox with bombs while kiting it around the camp fire on the hill above him. In fact I killed everything with bombs except the moblin at the large camp up top, because by then I had actual weapons. I enjoyed it a lot overall though and think more challenges in that style would be a welcome addition. I think the only damage I took was from stupid Octoroks.

I have 75 shrines and ~110 seeds at around 65 hours so far, with only the Gerudo beast left which I already started and made it into Gerudo Town. Feel like the game's winding down for me, I don't think I have it in me to do all of the shrines and I absolutely don't have it to do all the seeds. I think I will try to find the last 3 memories though but I think they're all in or around Hyrule Castle.

Don't play the game like a checklist, even for main story quests. Just explore and do quests and shrines and stuff whenever the time feels right.

I'm an adult with a full-time job, a girlfriend (soon to be wife) that I like to spend my free time with, and other interests/social responsibilities as well. Pro mode all the way for me.

It'll take me a loooong time to finish the game since I can only play occasionally, but that's fine. I'm not in a hurry. I'm not much of a gamer anymore these days, and me getting invested in a game this large is very, very rare for me. But even with Pro Mode, even a shorter session can be very rewarding. Just explore for a bit and you'll get something out of it, whether it is finding some side quests, some pretty locations or just to relax for a bit.

Having Pro Mode on doesn't negatively affect the game for me at all, even with my limited time. Don't have other games competing for attention though, so that helps. I'm completely fine with only being able to complete the game in a few months or so, no need for me to rush to certain goals more quickly. I'm not trying to 100% it either, I'm just doing whatever seems interesting to me. If I get close to the endgame and end up wanting to try and go for that I'll do it, but I'll just see how I feel at that point.

I concur with this.

The highest level armors that require these materials isn't worth it. Just sell off all your gems. I bought all remaining pictures and Great Fairies were no problem either. Gems are easy to reobtain.

When you beat
Vah Ruta, Elephant Divine. Does the power up bonus you when you die ever run out? I know it takes time to recharge, but I was worried there maybe a cap.

Nope. It just recharges and can be used as many times as you want given that it's available. You can also disable it if you don't want it activating.

I do but not going for 900 seeds
I wouldn't even do that if I had a guide. Gotta draw the line somewhere...
I'm not fighting Ganon until I clear all 120 shrines and upgrade the armor I want to four stars. I already got the memories and the Master Sword. I would recommend that you raid Hyrule Castle once or twice though. It is an intense area with a lot of great loot and things to discover. It's probably more fun to visit the weaker you are.
That sounds like a good idea. I still have those two side quests that take me to the castle. Perhaps I'll go check it out to do some recon, get the armor and recipe to complete the sidequests and then get out of there.

No it's a buff with a cooldown period.

You can disable it in the key item menu tho.

Man, ya'll talkin about hunting and selling meat. The struggle is real.

I only sell ore, and always keep 10-30 of each type unsold in case I need it later.

I'm sitting on 17 grand. Elevate yourselves.

There is a set of earrings with 28 def. Its worth it if you dont want to use the knight helmet or the wild cap to get max def.

+Cook food. Read descriptions for bonus effects (different ones don't stack)
+Don't worry about your items breaking. You will get more.
+Do whatever you want. You can go everywhere and do anything with three hearts and one stamina wheel.

I really wish I could see how much time I have played, im guesstimating around 30-35 hours, if not more. I finished Horizon at 50 and I feel ive played just about as much as that. Im also slightly starting to feel the burn... not even the game burn, but just the long sessions and nothing but Zelda the last 3-4 days burn. I might need to start going easy on it, maybe save the rest to play in handheld mode at work (my time off is up in a couple of days).

what kind of advice is that? thats like saying " you can play the entire of darksouls naked with just the starting weapon"

I mean, you CAN and some people do that, but thats not how most people play.

Aren't these the diamond ones...?

I guess you need rubies to upgrade the Wild set when you get it, if that's your thing. I didn't know that but I still don't think they're worth hoarding if you don't have the armor set yet.

Gems are not difficult to passively accumulate. Diamonds, the rarest ones, have an in-game exchange. I don't know if I would recommend gem hoarding to anybody based on what they're ultimately used for.

If I needed 15 rubies or something, I'd kill some Talus. I would probably want the Rupees in the meantime. You can never have enough arrows.

I love the game but I have to air a serious qualm I have with the controls. This pertains to the Joycon analog stick always clumsily triggering first person mode while I'm just trying to move Link around.

It's the most annoying and cumbersome thing ever.

I mean that nothing is off limits and no challenge is insurmountable. Don't feel that you can't do something or shouldn't be somewhere. I climbed all the towers with the base stamina.

Its a orange pair of earrings, amber I think.

Each one of the gems is used to level up different armor and you will need a lot of them to max them out.

I think this game would be amazing from the start with Pro Mode and no using the quest checklists. Just letting the NPCs and sign posts tell you everything and for you to personally make your own notes to remember where things are.

When I replay it I will definitely do this and will do it with the DLC.
It's awesome, you won't regret it, and I'd hazard to say it's the best way to play but I haven't beaten the game yet or played using anything else.

that mini-map's gotta go yo and quest markers REALLY spell it out in this game.

The further I make it through this game, the more I hate Claymore type weapons. The numbers are good, but those fucking swings! Especially against Lizalfos sucks. I'm all about the polearms now. I love those weapons.

I found my play time in the Wii U activity log. Is there a Switch equivalent?

Two-handed weapons in general are kind of boring. Swing swing *knock guy back* > chase down > repeat. It happens a lot for high-health enemies. Maybe I can do something cute like
time stop
> charge up spin attack for some variety.

I have like four
Royal Greatswords
right now. They'll wreck face but I do wish there were more spears and 1h swords.

Recommendations for how far to go with stamina upgrades? I've done 3 so far - will two full wheels be enough or should I go for more?
I've been feeling pretty comfortable with two upgrades. I just keep some stamina foods on me at all times.

I love the
bonus stamina/extra heart stuff. Each one is an automatic full heal of that resource
.

I beat the game yesterday. Really surprised at how
easy it was. I basically skipped the entire castle and landed on Gannons doorstep using Givali's gale and my Zora armor
.

However, I have a question. Once you beat the game is there no way to keep playing? Or do I just have to reload from the save where I beat it and go back and do the things I want to do?

I find claymores work best as a flurry strike weapon. Also their charge strikes on the bigger enemies can't be beat.

Your save file gets a star and you are placed outside the room before the final battle. so you can leave and complete more shrines/collect more seeds.

Go all in until you hit the max. Hearty food can make up for your deficiency in health; stamina enables so much more freedom and convenience when exploring.

I mean, there's not much to it. I'm always climbing shit, and when there's an ore deposit, I smack it. Kill a Talos when I come across it. Kill
silver
bokoblins. I may just be exploring more, or more specifically, exploring more densely. I only activate a tower when I'm ready to explore every inch of the area I unveil the map for. I only finally went to the west side of the world yesterday, it's been black up until now.

Lately I've been using the five light beacons to help make sure I'm not missing any areas. I'll identify a chunk of land that's probably rife with like 20 koroks and a bunch of ore and maybe a shrine or two, and I'll place the beacons throughout it fairly evenly, ideally on specific points of interest. Then I'll just make sure I hit them all while I wander around. It's okay to get lost or distracted, cause the beacons will make sure I remember what I had planned on doing originally.

So in the course of all that, I find a ton of ore. I wear the climbing outfit set like 95% of the time I play, really. Climbin climbin.

I never lacked funds ever because I'm frugal with my expenses lol. All those nights without a Goron massage or a spa treatment...

The fastest way to earn money is to mine. Luminous stones are just about everywhere on the sides of mountains and they glow at night and they sell for 70 rupees each.

Also, get those freebie treasure chests scattered all across the world. Some contain rupees, some contain minerals, and some contain arrows which helps you save money by not buying them in shops. Those purple or gold rupees may not worth that much, but over time they still stack up to your stash.

It creates a save just outside the final boss area.

You're save will have a star and looking at the map will give you a completion rate.
