Ghost in the Shell - Final Trailer

I think it looks great. Pretty excited for this. Got passes to see it on Wednesday. Even if it sucks, at least it was free and worth watching for the visuals.

Garbage trailer. Really painful when they just slap together a bunch of random unconnected dialogue across scenes where none of it is actually being spoken and we're just supposed to get excited by the mounting paranoia that isn't actually there. At least this time we didn't get the Johansson's cringey, flat reading of the terrible "They created me, but they cannot control me" line.

Let's see how well they pull this scene of:

I doubt they can pull off the same emotional scene from the original, but who knows.

I have visited this thread 5 or 6 times today. Every time I typed a few words of my fear and doubts: the stunning visual shown in the trailer might not translate into something good. It certainly will not be on par with the original in terms of impact to a broader audiences (not the fans) or even the sci-fi genre, now it might as well fail the fans.

But every single time, after I finished typing, I just closed the neogaf tab...I just dunno...Somehow this movie is on this week and there is even not a single review is on metacritic. I am worried.

Keep your expectations low and hope for the best.

I hope that the plot will be better than the "Everything the told you was a lie"/"They stole your life" angle that the trailers are going for. That just seems so boring and generic.

This is basically what it is going to be

It is pretty crazy how nearly every major story beat in the first movie is in this trailer, almost shot for shot, and yet at the same time the underlying themes seem so different.

The film is essentially going to be Robocop, in the guise of Ghost in the Shell. They were able to do that by lifting (liberally), various parts, arts, and such from the movie and from SAC then layering them over the top of what they wrote .

This dichotomy is why it "feels" like GitS on initial impressions, yet also leaves you feeling that something under the exterior doesn't feel right.

The scene shot where the Major is loading her weapon from the suitcase and the general spider tank movements are so good. I think Iso called it Full Limited? It's really incredibly detailed.

Yeah. Still my favorite animator to this day and that's one of my favorite scenes of all time.

I'm not sure if he's using "full limited" there though it's smoother than his stuff usually is.

Finally they use the CORRECT music for a trailer even if I didnt like that funky shit they added ontop of it, still miles better than anything they have had in their previous trailers. Fuck me took them long enough.

DAY ONE

Granted this was essentially the plot of the 95 animated film, in a "saying it without really saying it" kind of way...the resolution of the film doesn't make much sense otherwise.

Hopefully the live action film has a bit more subtlety about it than the trailers.

But everyone needs to remember that we're talking about a franchise that contains a manga series, like four films, and two tv series...all of which have nothing beyond superficial similarities to one another.

I'd like for this to be good. It seems like it'll be a combination of elements from the various interpretations of the material fused with the
Kuze storyline
from
2nd GiG
. I like the angle, but I don't like what I've heard about the twist nor am I confident in the writing.

I just looked him up and he's listed as key animation for Blood:The Last Vampire and Cowboy Bebop flims. No wonder I loved those two so much. Dude is legit. I should check out his other work. He is credited for a lot of things I haven't seen.

They use the music from Kawai but they have no idea how poetic and beautiful the original movie is.

It's just some noise now.

At this point, they'd have to be hiding A LOT, for that to not be what's going on here.

Just saw a TV spot with quotes from reviews, only I can't seem to find any of the reviews online. There was a review from Deadline that said "This movie has everything." ...where is it?

Not sure about the movie itself, but the art style has at least improved on the original. Stunning visuals, easily Weta's best yet

I really want this movie to be good. Unfortunately, I think the chances of that are pretty slim. Without a doubt, I'm seeing the movie opening day. It seems that at the very least they've attempted to stay true to the source material (at least in terms of visuals and scenes, story is definitely not a copy of the movie). As long as it's entertaining, and I'm sure it will be, then I'll be happy.
