How do I get the lightning helmet? Also I have noticed my weapon drops have stats on them now, is it because I keep completing shrines and am up to 64?

I have yet to face off against a Guardian at almost 70 hours in.

Now that I have semi-upgraded ancient armor, I might be well equipped to face one.

Lol. Just a shield is needed. Parry them.

dude no matter how much I practice that parry I cant reflect shit :/

Distance is important. Stay close to them and as soon as you see flashing white press parry button.

How many quests are stuck behind having to talk to people at the right time of day? Trying to activate this Kakariko
shrine quest
, and the prerequisites seem obtuse as fuck

By using the Barbarian set, a Colosal Sword and +3 attack buff I was able to beat a Silver Lynel without breaking a single weapon. I think it took less than 2 minutes :o

That's a pretty good combo.

I never post on the gaming side, but I was really curious to see what kind of backlash this game would have. I'm having a peculiar reading experience right now, because even though I'm not a Nintendo fanboy (the Switch is my first Nintendo product in over ten years), I'm going through some of the negative comments with some weird sense of disbelief.

I perfectly understand finding some of the particulars underwhelming, but I'm having such an incredible experience with the game that it killed my productivity singlehandedly for weeks. I'm 36 and I don't remember being so addicted with a game since the PS2 heydays. It has flaws and gets repetitive in sections, but the way this very lonely single-player experience still gets me in a groove after spending about 60 hours with it is uncanny. The systems in place and the map design just make it the best sandbox experience I've ever had.

The game is a blessing.

oh joy, a stealth section. And you cant even save scum your way through it sigh

I don't think there is any backlash. It's a 97 on Metacritc and most people seem to thoroughly love it. Even those of us who aren't as enthralled mostly still think it's a great 8.5-9/10 type game even though we're not "OMG best game ever" raving over it.

It's just not my exact cup of tea as I'm more into linear, story driven experiences these days than make your own fun games with tons of freedom and exploration. So it's a testament to its quality that I like it as much as I do and have put over 60 hours into it even if I didn't like it as much as Horizon due to personal tastes.

It's superlatively good. I don't disbelieve the criticisms. There are quite a few things that could be done better. But it is truly a profound evolution for Nintendo, and a real testament to the persistence and talent of the entire development team.

The stealth section is a bit crap, but you can cheese it out pretty easily.

Some general tips:
-Stasis+ works on them
-Bananas are your friend
-Feel free to backstab any of them you can
-It doesn't last that long
-They never look up, so use the rafters

dude no matter how much I practice that parry I cant reflect shit :/

Once you get the master sword and stasis+ go this route instead:

Get spotted somewhere you can hide in the terrain. When a leg creeps around a corner, lop it off. Close the gap so the swing of your strike hits both the leg and body, and circle strafe with Z targeting until there are no legs left.

It might break out and try to run away. If it does stop it with stasis+

You can do this with any 30+ damage weapon but it's kind of resource intensive that way. If you choose to go that route, every time you knock them on their side pull out a 2 handed weapon and do a spin attack.

Or get rich and shoot them in the eye with an ancient arrow, that works too.

Question about the Hylian Shield:

The one I got from Hyrule Castle has a bonus of +12 on it. Does the one Grante sells have a chance to have a bonus as well?

For BotW2 it'd be cool if they expanded on interior areas. For example, I was bummed when (Akkala spoilers)
I got to Akkala tower which is above an abandoned castle, yet there's no entrance to the castle. Imagine a large interior area with poes, phantom darknuts or stuff like that inside the castle. Imagine if the only way to reach the tower was clearing this haunted castle
.

After all this Lost Woods talk, I'm kinda amazed that I blindly made my way through with only one reset. I had no idea about the clues that are supposed to help you find your way.

Agreed, the 10/10s are totally justified. I can't remember the last time I played a game where it accomplishes what it sets out to do so well, that it makes its flaws seem trivial and nitpicky. Metroid Prime perhaps?

Once you get to the big room, climb the ladder before the entrance. Then climb sideways around the top until you get to the back of the room and hop off onto the rafters. Find the gorilla guarding the back door and drop a banana from above for the distraction. Float down to win. Scumbag method achieved!

Mario Galaxy maybe. Or maybe one of the Souls games.

I just used sound cues, wasn't particularly fun but I did it all the same.

FYI the attack buff you get from Barbarian armor and the attack buff from food do not stack. You're better off with defense food and Barbarian or Attack food and Ancient armor.

I just followed the wind changes. What else is there?

Made my way through the Yiga hideout first time with no problems whatsoever. Enjoyed the boss fight too, although it could/should have been more of a challenge.

Idk, as a fan of the series I was severely disappointed in the dungeon and boss design. It does the open world portion brilliantly but I feel that other areas, mainly the dungeons and boss fights, suffered greatly in a trade off to receive the wonderful world we did. I know it's a personal gripe but I'm not convinced that the trade off was worth it. That alone holds the game back from being a 10 in my eyes. I really hope it's addressed in the next game as its the complaint I see most often.

So apparently there are two other shrines in the Lost Woods areas? I have no idea how to get to them lol.

Also, while playing on the train, I realized the attention to detail with so many little things is amazing. Like, theres no way its accidental that on high cliffs theres tiny horizontal ledges to stand on and catch your breath.Someone had to take time to put all that together.

At this point, the next convention they need to break is the story and lore. It's getting really boring telling the same premise over and over again.
Zelda is hardly about story. And most likely will never be. They mentioned that over and over again.

Drop a few of your stronger equipment on the raft before setting foot on the island. After your stuff is taken by the monks pick up the stuff you dropped and easily kill everything in your path.

This makes it not fun though.

If you want to do it the "normal" way I suggest stealthing the Hinox and being ok with running away from encounters -- the enemies don't respawn.

The one major thing that I feel this game missed out on was the Zelda feeling. It lacks some of that usual magic but it has some other type of magic. I think the devs could have combined both. E.g. there are no caves, the normal sound of Zelda are missing, no present story, no themed dungeons etc.

Regular Nintendo fans may be complaining about that. But the game really does what it was supposed to do.

Probably a better game than every Zelda game. But not the best Zelda game.

They can break the story conventions, but the lore itself is still great.

See, what's interesting to me is, I'm playing this game at the same time as I'm playing Links Awakening on Game Boy Color.

It is actually startling how much BotW feels like LA and vice versa. The game feels very much like classic Zelda, and you can see how it is very clearly influenced by the 2D games in the series.

Yes, in LA, there is only one way to solve each challenge, and it's fairly linear in comparison, but still, the actual setting, sounds, visual design (even though it's a sprite based game) and overall tone is exactly the same somehow. I'm not really sure how Nintendo accomplished that.

Does the attack buff you get from the Ancient armor set bonus stack with attack buffs from meals? They aren't the same technically.

Yes. Ancient Proficiency is a different buff than Attack Up so their effects stack up.

Does anyone think that the games gets too easy after some upgrades? E.g.
stasis+
.

It helps, but it isn't as abusable because of certain usage limitations, like the varying effect duration and recovery time.

That's a pretty good combo.

Ancient Armor set + Attack lvl.3 buff + Ancient Battle Axe++ + Urbosa's Fury = 1 minute Silver Lynel destruction.

Good one, I didn´t know
the Ancient attack buff affected Lynels
. I don´t like using
Urbosa´s Fury
though, I see it as kind of a win button, specially against Lynels, I like having honest duels against them. I like depleting all my champion powers before facing one :)

So full Ancient armor + triple attack buff meal + a big ass ancient weapon = fast fast murderdeath?

Man, it's a pity that the Ancient armor looks goofy as hell.

Yeah. You can kill a silver Lynel in under a minute with an Ancient Battle Axe++ plus arrow stuns with all the buffs included.

The buff works with ancient weapons as any ancient weapon you equip (including bow I believe) gets a power up, not dependent on enemies.

So I beat the elephant divine beast and don't want to plow through the other three... Sort of running out of things to do though outside of shrines and towers, idk.
