Jim Sterling, Laura Kate Dale: Warning to Yooka-Laylee Pre-Orderers

They are just going for that authentic N64 experience!

It's going to be a shame if this doesn't turn out well, though we will have to see to get a better idea.

Edit: Oh, other GAF impressions that sound more encouraging, good!

Switch version is going to be awful isn't it :(

Sucks as I was hyped for this game a while back, but everything I've seen since slowly but surely eroded that. Really doesn't quite feel like a 64 era 3D platformer.

I just saw the GameXplain Q&A and they said the XB1 version was 30fps with frequent stuttering so that maybe what they're referencing here. PC version seems to be fine though.

If it's like the toybox then I can see it being fun but maybe not at the quality or charm of banjo, those games did a lot right the first time around.

"Jim Sterling doesn't like game"..... Wait is that something new? Jim didn't like a game??!? NO WAY, IF JIM DIDN'T LIKE GAME, IT MUST SUCK!!?!?

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if that game would end up as another Mighy No. 9, even the first videos didn't convince me in the slightest, I fear it's going to be a rather dull experience.

This seems like a performance-related complaint, more than anything else. It's really vague though, so I'm not sure. Shame if consoles have issues running it, but I doubt my PC will struggle with this title. And if it is about the game itself, well... I enjoyed MN9 despite him railing on it for months, so I'll take it with a grain of salt.

You are nuts if you are getting this game day 1 with everything that is out right now.

What's out right now that's similar to this? This is part "me being snarky" and part "me genuinely begging for similar games". I'm starved for games like this and there seems to be nothing out there like this right now (closest is Snake Pass, and if this were literally any other moment in time in the past 5 years there wouldn't be anything non-Mario that's similar), so I wouldn't say I'm nuts.

This was never a day one game for me and I was going to be heavily dependent on the reviews and customer reaction on whether it's worth buying. Not a good start appearently but will wait for everyone to have a say.

Not necessarily, but I'm sure Playtonic is going to have to fight with it to get it stable on the platform.

We're getting it later, so we can only hope that time is used to optimize.

Heard some similar things about this game.

I was looking forward to it but I am going to wait for reviews and first impressions from GAF.

Someone I know is playing it on a i7 2600k/GTX 760 combo and he's been PRAISING how well it performs on his old system.

Only thing I've been able to get out of him.

GameXplain did a Q&A on the game yesterday, and it sounds like Ash is enjoying it. The primary complaint that I think he mentioned was that the camera can be a problem. But again, there's probably more that he can't get into due to embargoes.

I helped back it, but don't have it pre-ordered or anything. I'll definitely be waiting on impressions here and read some reviews.

I can't say I'm surprised. I beat a lot of those 3D collecthatons back in the day, so you can say I'm a fan, but nothing I've seen from Yokka-Laylee has inspired me at all. It doesn't look fun to me, and I can't quite put my finger on it. I took a ''let's wait and see'' approach on this game. Obviously, I want it to be good, but I have my doubt.

Not to sound selfish, but I hope they aren't talking about the PC version. At least then there'd be one version that runs well.

I'm still cautiously optimistic.

Keep in mind -

- Polytonic are doing PC and Switch
- Team 17 are porting PS4 / Xbox One

I've heard good things about the game, you shouldn't be worried. It's the first time I've seen someone complaining about the performance tho.

Jim also thought The Last Gaurdian was garbage so I'd like to give the game the benefit of the doubt. They're usually much harder on games then I would be.

I really hope the game is good. I won't be able to handle the celebration from a certain faction if it fails.

Sterling is not an opinion I would defer to for a game like this, but hearing Laura echo it is a bit disconcerting. I've been excited for this for years, backed it on Kickstarter. I'm gonna buy it if only to support my all time favorite genre. But I'll be honest, I'll be disappointed if it's weak.

Jim doesnt sugarcoat things. Thats wht I put more weight into his opinion than most others.

And that is why we have embargos.

Now we have 2 people saying 1 thing and no one can support or contradict that.

Not very fair I think.

True enough but I feel like erring on the side of caution in these kinds of cases is always a good idea, anyway. If other reviewers end up saying it's great and you cancelled your pre-order because of what thesee two said, you can always just go out and buy the game anyway, no harm done. If you keep your pre-order and it turns out they were right, on the other hand,...

Unless you've backed it on KS, there's no reason to preorder the game. Just wait and see how the impressions roll out. You don't have to believe Jim or those who disagree with him. Just wait.

I wouldn't take his opinion seriously for any game at this point ^^ -However there are a few things bugging me with this kickstarter project so I wouldn't be surprised if it ended up bland.

This thread being derailed by shitposts about Unity almost make me want to open a thread defending Unity. Almost.
Bottom line: Unity is not the problem.

I wouldn't be remotely shocked if this was the case. Development time seemed to be extremely quick to deliver a truly polished game up to the standards of Banjo 1 and 2.

Why do devs keep using fucking Unity? Isn't Unreal 4 cheap now anyway? And superior in pretty much every way imaginable at that?
Yeah, I don't get this either. Is there some sort of incentive?

The sad thing is, if this doesn't do well, certain groups will latch onto this and sell it as a victory for... Well... You know.

Hmmm, I got the PS4 version on preorder at Best Buy for $12 so I'm going to just keep it. If anything it will just play like a $12 game.

Hopefully they have funding for patches after it launches and we could see improvements.

I think possible performance issues is jumping the gun on declaring the game on par with Mighty No. 9. That game had a million problems with it whilst this game only has one that seems like YMMV currently.
