My impressions:

- Beautiful hardware
- I'm sure that the screen will be fantastic; hopefully there's the attention payed to calibration like Apple does
- 64gb default is great
- Same rear camera hardware is a little disappointing
- Not intrigued by Bixby at all, screams "S Voice" to me
- not too optimistic about battery life given screen sizes, but we'll see.

Seem cool, and I might jump to them for a bit. Still going to need to see serious strides in terms of long term touchwiz usability (and updates), Android app quality, and battery life to make me switch from permanently from my 7+, dated design or not. It was the same story w/ the Note 7 - beautiful design and hardware, but the 6S plus was notably faster, the apps I used were much better on iOS, and the 6S plus had better battery life.

I can't *believe* these lazy developers keep making file sizes so damn large. Btw, how does technology work?

Wow - pretty much my impressions to an absolute tee.

Samsung had already surpassed Apple's phone design with the Note 7; but aesthetically, now Samsung is just beating them over the head. The 8+ is both functionally and aesthetically leaps and bounds superior to my 7 Plus, hardware wise.

Too bad, though, that it's with almost certainty the phone just won't have the battery life or fluidity of my current phone. Also, my enthusiasm for Bixby is less than zero. I can't imagine anyone giving a shit. It's S-Voice all over again; and I think anyone would rather just have "OK, Google."

Luckily it has assistant as well.

Yeah battery life bothers me the most. I was going to go preorder this tomorrow, but since it has 1 month till release I'd rather wait for battery life tests to see how it compares with the g6

Bummer that the rumored 1000fps didn't made it.

Still gonna preorder on the 11th though. Not yet decided on 8 or 8+.

What's the battery capacity of Note 7?

As someone who lives and breathes Apple, I can agree. 8+ is stunning. Beautiful piece of hardware, and much more aesthetically pleasing than the iPhone 7.

Shame about Android though.

Welp. My Note 4 just bit the dust. I was gonna hold out for the Note 8, but it looks like my plans have just changed. The S8+ looks like a great phone, but I will miss the S-Pen.

I've never used a wireless charger before. Will this one work well with the S8+?

Thanks for any help GAF.

It's a terrible feeling when your phone dies, but I am excited to upgrade!

Get a fast wireless charger, this one looks like it'll only do the slower charge. They're a game changer.

Something like this

Sorry if this has already been covered, but has anyone found coverage online of how this looks in the Gear VR compared to the S7? I'm hoping for better image quality.

I can't believe they signed off on that fingerprint sensor placement. Absolutely terrible even for people with huge hands using it right handed.

Welp, got my pre-orders in for both lines for the S8+. Went the Best Buy route so I didn't have to change my plan to take advantage of the trade-in offer at Verizon.

Is it all the way at the bottom, below the screen, or is it actually part of the screen?

Did you try face/iris unlock? What's the difference between the two?
The screen is touch sensitive where the home button logo is and you can press it to go home even if the buttons isn't drawn there, like with full screen video or games.

You have to physically press it, not just touch the area.

as a iPhone guy, the s8 looks really good and I am interested.
Specially into camera stuff. But somehow the DOF looks weird, specially with far focus. Hopefully it's just the image on their site.

wait wait wait

hold up, this is very important...

I didn't notice this before, I checked the website and had a double take...

This is "holy shit" levels of important, UFS 2.1 should be capable of up to Gigabytes a second with simultaneous read and writes both at the same time.... Why the hell didn't they mention this on stage?!?!?!

No kidding. I was enthralled by the phone already, but fast storage is in my opinion the most important spec. Color me impressed, slow storage has been dogging Android OEMs for a while. The S8 is looking awesome to me

After using 5/5S/6/6S i now want to move for a better screen phone.Being stuck with 720p 4.7" screen is not cool in 2017 also iPhone's selfie camera is very outdated it needs higher res and more importantly wide angle lense.

After looking at S8's pictures Apple's Plus devices makes my eyes bleed.

I temporarily used Galaxy A5 2016 i wonder how's Samsung's flagship software.

Is that accurate? If so, holy crap. I still don't like the screen (edges are not for me :p ) but super duper fast performance is more than worth it.

Plus I have a Nexus 5 from 2013. I'm sure the upgrade would feel massive!

Pretty cool. That intro about smartphones looking the same for ages is brilliant but.....in the end your smartphone still looks like a traditional smartphone, Samsung.

The fingerprint sensor on this thing sucks tbh. Placement is terrible and it's so frustrating to register. Tried on S8 and S8+

If I out stock Android on reg S8 it would be the best phone out there imo

This phone is so fast

I'm on AT&T and want to order an S8+ for myself and use AT&T's $750 credit towards another S8/S8+ to get my wife an S8. If I'm gonna go through Best Buy to get the additional $100 off, does anyone know the answer to these questions?

  • Do you have to order in store? Gonna go in tonight if it is, but if I could order online now that would be nice.
  • Can you preorder both at the same time, or do you have to wait for some sort of promotion form to order the second one using the credit?
  • Do both phones get the free VR headset/controller/game pack?
If not, I'll try to add details from my experience after I go in to Best Buy tonight.

*edit* for bullet 1 I meant can you order online and get the AT&T + Best Buy deal, or is that in store only.

What a gorgeous phone, good lawd. Hopefully Apple copies this screen design because my next iPhone needs a screen like this. Makes all other smartphones look a decade old.

- awkwardly placed fingerprint sensor
- pessimistic about battery life. Same size as S7 but screen has bigger resolution
- why remove the physical home button???

i love everything about it. easily the best looking phone ever. so glad we are getting a "bezel-less" display. bezels need to die. hopefully google + apple do the same with their new phones. the iphone 7 next to the S8 just looks so bad.

i'm happy with the specs. i'm a little cautious about the battery life but i'm not buying day 1. probably a few months after launch so by then we'll have a good idea what it's like.

the way the always on display will now transition right into the lock screen and unlock screen is really slick.

Can someone clarify this functionality, please? Is this similar to the iPhone 7's raise to wake feature, where you can simply lift the phone and the lock screen will pop up, without having to touch scree/button?
