Limited Run Games - Putting digital games into your hands

I don't follow review scores from major review sites because of the incestuous bribery going on between them and major publishers. They get high scores because of the reward/punishment from big publishers. That is why smaller Japanese games are trashed a lot more often because of the lack of symbiotic corruption between gaming journalism and big publishers.

Best way to know about a game is to just watch Twitch streams or Youtube gameplay videos.

Anyone not going to use the playing deck cards coupon?

I agree with you. I was simply speculating that this might be the time that they get the signal. I just also think it would be healthy for them and their focus.

Both questionable games are still available and this is just the first half.

Funny that you mention that this might be the time they get the signal when it was only last week where they were asking the community if it was okay to release lesser known, less praised titles.

Games sell out in 5 minutes

"Terrible, there is so much demand, print more games!"

50 copies are still available after an hour

"Obviously a sign that no one wanted this game"

I'm not sure I completely get the correlation about their comments and my speculation. I wasn't aware of their inquiry, don't follow their forums or anything. I saw something about a second label but didn't really read it.

Anyways I've bantered more than enough. It's ok to disagree. We'll all get to watch and see how it all plays out.

First time I used the shipping box method. Hoping it's even more save to make the items arrive in perfect condition.

How are other peoples experiences with the box?
I pretty much buy the shipping box method all the time and everything has arrived in spectacular condition. Your primary gamble with the option comes from whether they include wrapping paper. I know one of my earliest purchases just had everything sliding around all willy-nilly. However, they have started using it more frequently based on my last two boxes. You should be fine in that department and I highly recommend it for those out there worried about their games arriving in perfect shape.

Look, I can see MKH being a hard sell but how is Pang Adventures "questionable"? It's fucking Buster Bros.

Thanks dude!

My understanding is that you no longer need to add the box for 2 or more games. It is automatic.

Yeah this crowd sure is fickle and kind of ridiculous sometimes. LRG has put out a lot of games I couldn't give less of a shit about and yet somehow I manage to resist the urge to come in here and talk about how those games didn't meet my metacritic expectations or how they didn't sell out fast enough. I guess I must be amazing.

Anyway, I got Astebreed despite being a few minutes late to the party this morning. I love that. I've never known anything but an easy, breezy experience with LRG and now as they are communicating more and more (heads up emails, forums, etc) the experience is only getting better. Great job, LRG staff!

YianGaruga is on fire today!

I also quite enjoyed Mitsurugi. It has many flaws and it's not a great game, but it's still fun!

But come on, that's a pointless discussion here.

Yeah YianGaruga loves avoiding posts that he can't try respond against so resorts back to "but look at those!" Yet only cherry picking a few posts and changing goalposts

You're the one talking bout being able to ship games for $5 at a profit somehow. Why would anyone take you seriously.

What about the customs in EU? Last game I got was Söldner X, and I believe LimitedRunGames managed everything about the customs, so we don't have to worry about picking up our stuff at the customs office.

Is it still like that?

Yes. Atleast for Germany. No problems with customs since almost over a year.

You're assuming that people know what Buster Brothers is. I was a teen in the SNES era and never heard of it until 2 months ago.

Weird. I played the shit out of the cab back in the day and the Turbo CD port when I started collecting, everyone in my gaming circle knew about the series. Must be a regional thing.

I'd trust reviews more from sources that actually play those kinds of games. Give me a review from a niche/RPG/Steam site where someone already bought and played it, over some large generic company that tosses the game out to Random Joe and say "play this and review it".

Wait, let's be a little fair here: some of the bigger sites DO have people who "play those kinds of games" reviewing them. And the review process doesn't really work the way you're describing it (just throwing the game to any random reviewer) as often as you think it does.

Also LOOOOL at

And they get it in bulks for big discounts too

Was super simple to order with no hassle, Hopefully someday LRG can make ordering this simple.

This release is atypical for iam8bit.

1. It was given a more low key announcement through Kickstarter backers (where I saw it)

2. Already through production - meaning that hopefully the quality control is good as opposed to something like Rez which was nightmarish.

3. Shipping starts on Monday - which at least for other iam8bit things I have ordered has never been the case. They are usually closer to nebulous preorder that ships 6 months after original promise.

4. Also it is literally the same order process on both iam8bit and LRG (using shopify)

--

Besides the Skullgirls release (which is pretty close to how iam8bit releases usually go), LRG is miles and miles ahead in terms of customer service, shipping times/expediency and general communication through their forums, twitter and here.

I'm in the US so I realize there are some other issues with overseas orders that I haven't had to deal with, but for how small an operation LRG is , I think they are doing a great job.

I get that, but I don't have time to read through to see who is credible or not. I've read some pretty awful reviews for niche games that just zero in on the fanservice, with how awful it is. Also smart-witted comments about it, which is often notorious with critics (although movie critics are the worst with their wording, analogies, and comparisons).

I just wanted to mention that I don't have an issue with the selection of titles that Limited Run Games has been bringing thus far, my posts were merely pointing out that Mitsurugi's Metascore wasn't really unwarranted.

On a side note, I wish LRG got Hyper Light Drifter instead of iam8bit.

Welp, I cracked and opted to bite the bullet once more with ordering from 8bit for "Drifter." Added another copy of "Rez Infinite " which I was already thinking about reordering since both art covers, original and replacement, arrived in bent condition. Have to criticize their shipment options as its ridiculous for USPS to be about $50 domestic. I settled on FedEx for cost purposes, but I hope they'll still sent to my P.O. box.

On a related note, I bought all three titles in the morning batch. Really excited for "Astebreed," but I'm admittedly unsure about the other two games. At worst, I'll probably sideline "Pang Adventures" as something that I might not ever make a priority similar to "The Swindle" and "Rainbow Moon" in my collection.

Lemme get this straight: when I hold an order, it'll charge me for standard domestic shipping. I can hold multiple orders by doing this with the address specified on their website. When I want everything shipped, I'll purchase this item on their store. When I do, it seems it'll charge full international shipping. Is that right?

Definitely grabbed that Hyper Light Drifter from iam8bit. I am weary of them, but they seem to have copies in hand and shipping Monday. I do really like the play-asia cover better, but this is a bit more convenient for me.

The purpose of releasing niche games is to... appeal to a niche.

Review score aggregators for niches of less than 5,000 copies are obviously a completely different beast than for releases targetting millions?

Trying to limit what LRG releases is just bizarre to me. Don't buy it if you don't want it. They will get the signal of enough people agree with you.
Um...isn't that what some of us are saying we are doing? Not sure what the issue is with posting about it :P

I mean, if you (not literally you, just a "you" in general to everyone) like the release then power to you, but people shouldn't get all up in arms when others say they will be skipping some mediocre games.

The problem is, if you aren't going to put any effort into learning who out there is good to pay attention to or trust, then what's the point of media outlets putting out the effort to give the right games to the right people? Obviously a perfect world would be every site having every game reviewed by people qualified to review them, but that isn't always going to happen, yet there are people legitimately trying to give good coverage of niche and/or Japanese games outside of the super enthusiast sites.

With how hard it is at times to get higher-ups to care about giving coverage to the smaller games, those site that do really need the support.
